Disboutiquers part 3 (Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes)

I'm at 11 days and counting :goodvibes and need help!

I've cut up a dalmation pillow panel and made a top for DD5 from a YMCT pattern with 2" added to the bottom so it hits closer to her hips. Back is the same dalmation fabric as the ruffle.

DalmationTopresized.jpg

(The spots on the shirt are not from the camera...they're from dinner...):headache:

I've got tons of the dalmation fabric (someone explain to me why I bought what feels to be 4 yards?), 3 more pillow panels, and 1 yd of the blue/paws fabric in the picture. And tons of fabric in every color of the rainbow.:lovestruc (She who dies with the most fabric wins!)

It needs to be a skirt. I've made - and DD loves - twirl skirts but I'm looking for something new. I don't think I want a tutu skirt, and I think I'd like the skirt to be flexible enough to wear separate of the dalmation top.

Anyone have any good ideas? Favorite patterns?

YCMT has some super cute twirl skirts. They have the spiral one, the scallopini, and several others that would be cute with that top.

can a disboutiquer help me find a good pattern? I need a simple a-line skirt with an elastic pull on waist appropriate for in 8 1/2 yo girl? she's solid built on the chubby side and i'm having a hell of a time finding appropriate skirt wear. in fact I hate most clothing out for her age group right now. I'm at the point where i'm just going to do basics for her and make her knee length skirts to pair with longer tshirts and cute shoes. I'm so tired of the clothing designers and industry making our girls looking grown up before they need to be. :humph: <steps off soap box>

I don't really like the big 3 patterns because it requires so much work to make them fit properly so if someone has any other suggestions please lmk, or if it is a big 3 pattern please post what you did to it to adjust it.

thanks!

Returning from hiatus here & in need of some DIS expert advise.:teacher:

Ok, I love the classic look of Madra shorts with plain colored golf shirts for boys. I'm so psyched that they seem to be popular again!!:thumbsup2  Here's the 411 on what "Madras" look like:
ONClassicMadras.jpg

I really had wanted to do matching sets for Easter. I've been watching the stores & I'm just too frugal to spend retail $.:confused3

Also, my ds(6) has acquired an aversion to pants/shorts with buttons & or zippers this year:( ! So I'm thinking, I can just "whip up" some shorts with elastic or draw string waist band? Shorts, similar to the Madra look, with little cargo type pockets at the sides. Call me crazy??

I've seen that patchwork material at both JoAnns & Hancocks before. I don't have any of the handy dandy 50% coupons right now. It still should be less to make these shorts than pay $20 each pair, retail $, right?:teacher: Or has spring break already made me nuts?:rotfl:

I made this for Drew to wear to Princesses on ice tomorrow night.

I was actually making the pants for a different outfit, but they matched this too, so I skipped making the ruffled jeans I had planned.

I'm surprised that her class is taking her. It's rated PG not G and there are some words in there that I rather my girls not here. We were surprised yesterday..

Hmm - everything I read says it is rated G. We actually took the kids to see it and I thought it was really good - and had a good overall theme. And I am kinda picky about movies - we didn't do Shrek, Cat in the Hat, and several other animated movies that I never understood why they had to include "adult humor". I read about movies we want to see on the website pluggedinonline.com - it has great info about movies content including the positive elements, violence, sexual, spiritual and several others. The one part I didn't care for was the mayor being called a "****" (I got censored - LOL - it is a word that starts and ends with a b, and has two o's in the middle) - they could have thought of a better word to put in a kids movie. The kids immediately pointed out the "b" word and that it was a bad word. It's a personal decision - so many movies out there - but that website helps a little.

Thanks!! I had a wonderful day shopping and having lunch with DD, my mom and my sister. It was bittersweet though - today is also my last day of maternity leave. How did 12 weeks go by so fast?!? At least with the holiday Friday I'll only have to work 2 days this week.
Sorry about having to go back to work- It always feels like maternity leave goes to fast!! Glad you had a wonderful day!!
Does anyone watch one life to live??
What is wrong with star!
I am watching it on the DVR right now- Good for marcie not running right over there and buying into stars crazyness!!
Those are great- I think my kids will be sporting some 15 min appliques are their clothes this summer- They are so fun!!
th_paisleystripes.jpg

Not clownish at all- SO cute!!
I've really got to get started on Ella's princess on ice outfit. We're going this Saturday. :scared1: I bought that seersucker princess fabric at WalMart the other day, I just can't come up with an idea.
Good luck on the princess on ice outfit- Have a good time!!

:yay: for her- We know she put ALOT of work into that project!!
That is super cute- Is it a applique or an iron on??

Sorry I can't help with the skirt situation- I have only done twirly skirts, well so far anyway.
And you know if you want to get rid of some of that fabric there are plenty of us who would give it a good home :lmao:

I just got done with a Giselle dress for Jenna. I was in a Giselle mood because of the release of the movie today. DD watched it twice already. I just uploaded the picture to Photobucket and realized that Giselle looks naked. DH agrees with me too. Do you guys think it would look funny if I added some chenelle or something to make it look like clothes or should I just leave it?

:lmao: :rotfl2: I hadn't noticed until I read it! That might be a good Idea. Maybe the upper part of what ever outfit goes with that hair style. Isn't it pink? I haven't seen the movie since in the theater- I didn't buy it today but tomorrow for sure!! My kids are so deprived not getting to see it on the first day :rotfl:

I think it looks great!

If anyone asks, and they don't know the movie, just say it is Lady Godiva, and that is the way it should look!;)

Did anyone else get the new YCMT newsletter? I was mentioned with the purse I made. Yikes!

Does this make me a SUPERSTAR?:cool2:

This looks cute!

Did you line the pants? I have some of that type of fabric that I got on clearance, but it is kind of "see through". I got such a great deal on it, that I couldn't pass it up, and it is waiting to be made into something.

cute horton. Did anyone see food network challenge when they did dr seuss cakes. One guy did horton hears a who cake it was so cute. (but my favorite - the cat in the hat won)

Love the tinkerbell set. Pants turned out great.

thanks!

I was just looking through the bookmarks yesterday to find Arminda an a-line pattern. They seem pretty easy to do yourself, and you make it with her measurements, so it will fit. There is a section of the bookmarks for dresses/skirts, then an a-line skirt section. (there is also a section in the bookmarks with garment ease charts if you need a little help with that.)

I also like the tween flare skirt from YCMT. I made it for Arminda the other week, it's really fast and easy, and it looks pretty cute on her.

I'm not sure what the question was? Are you nuts? Nope, not that I've seen! Sweet, yes, nuts, probably not!!!

I think the pull on madras will be very cute. I'm sure there is a coupon online somewhere for Joann's, I will see what I can find. It seems though, everytime I have a good Joann's coupon, the material I want is on sale for like 20% off, so it doesn't do me any good. I hate that!

I don't know that I would have thought anything of it if you hadn't mentioned it. How would it look with a sash, that way she would be partly covered. I think the problem is that you can see so much of her skin, so a sash would probably help that out. And, I always like a nice sash with any outfit!

I am trusting that you made it through the storm ok. It's good to see you posting!

Too cute, what do the pants look like without the top over them? They look so cute and I'd love to see the material better :)

I agree that a sash would be nice. Is that a Giselle pillowcase? Where did you find it? I've been looking for something Giselle for Gabi ;)

Yeah we made it through ok. I need to turn ont he news and see if there were any tornadoes. The wind was blowing hard last night and it rained a little, but other than that it was ok.

I like the sash Idea. I have some of the pink material left from the pillowcase. I think I will add that today.

I got it from Disneyshopping.com.

I've been missing in action.
I got a job! Part time working at a Mother's Morning Out program.

We went to Disney for the weekend! March 6-9 I am hoping to write a trip report.

And my brother came to visit for a week.

And I did a little sewing

Oh, I love that! Did you have to take apart the shorts to do the applique? I am going to CASE that! DS could use something like that to go with his CARS shirt.

That is beautiful..love the fabric and definitely not clowny looking at all.
