I got my sewing machine back in november and finally got around to trying something.
The first thing i tried was a bandanna dress. It turned out ok, not horrible, but not good. I made this one yesterday

Today i used a different pattern (and some fabric from the fabric swap from camelotcats :) ) I did a lot better on this one. I adjusted the measurements a little so it wouldnt be so big on my petite girl. I actually did a hem and binding on the arm holes. :cool1: Not disney, but i still wanted to share. I am not ready to cut into that fabric yet!

Thanks for all your inspiration. I never would have even got a sewing machine if it wasnt for this thread. I hope to one day be able to do half as well as many of you!

Cheryl, your little girl is adorable in her new dresses!! Keep up the good work. You'll be a pro before you know it. :goodvibes

I need to start sewing "every day" clothes.

See, here's my dilemma. I make things for special occasions and holidays but these things are "nice" and too dressy for most of our activities.

I hesitate to let my dd wear things that took a LOT of work for just everyday wear. :guilty:

I'm going to just focus on a spring/summer wardrobe that she can wear all the time without me worrying.

There. I said it!

So minimally adorned jeans with a simple peasant top or a knit dress.
A usable wardrobe. We have plenty of picture taking clothes or church dresses etc. Anyone feel the same sometimes?

Absolutely!! I am making more "costumey" stuff for our trip to WDW. So, I need to make some everyday wear kinds of things, too. I always hesitate to put something on her that I've worked really hard on. How silly is that, anyway?

Yes. I feel exactly the same way. I need to do the same. Make everyday outfits. I also have a hard time dressing her for school or such in a "custom" outfit. Because - well - she's 2 and is the biggest klutz I know!

DH joked when we were at WDW that I should have brought along full body sized bibs or maybe trashbags with arm and leg holes cut out for her to wear over her customs! Admittedly, I *may* have been a little anxious over her outfits - not just because I didn't want her to look sloppy, but also for the resale value! :rolleyes1

Glad to hear Ireland is feeling better. Off topic, but how did you come up with the name Ireland? I think it is such a pretty name.

QUOTE]

When I was pregnant, I was searching for an Irish girls name...it was difficult, because the way the names are spelled, aren't the way they are pronounced...I was plagued with this my entire life. My name is Elisa, but it is pronounced Ah-lisa. not Eliza, Alyssa, Elsie..and all of the other variations that I've had to endure...anyway, I was watching the baby story, and the little girl in the show's name was Ireland, and I thought, How perfect! and that was it. So far in her life she's met 2 other little girls named Ireland. One at Epcot, and one at the grocery store...I hear it's beginning to become a popular name...egads..I hope not.
But the downfall of naming your child a "place" name, is that it's kind of tacky to do it twice, so my dreams of naming my second daughter Syndey, fell by the wayside. Everyone poo-poohed the idea, and I said, FINE!! :headache: I'll just pick anything out of the "A" section of the baby name book, and low and behold. Alexis was born... I regret it now, and should have stuck to my guns, but it's too late, and she insists on being called Alexa, not Alexis, which is totally uncool...LOL

I love the idea of naming your child for a culture. Anastasia , Josephine and Nicholas are all Royal Monarch names from Russia. are we russian - noooo. But I as a child was very much into cultures around the world. I traveled a bit and lived in sydney for a few years and almost went for the sydney route. But having children with royal names and given them grand names has always been a must for me! well when they were born you should have heard people -"is that from the movie?" - "such a long name for a little baby!" - and my mothers quote - " That is stupid why would you name a child something like that!" Wow that pushed me over the edge! People are always telling us all what to name our kids. Believe me If I could change my name from Lori to something grand and spectacular I would.
wait did I jsut ramble! sorry...
Lori

We have an Aislinn (ASH-linn) & a Katherine. Aislinn is an Irish name that we both really liked & EVERYONE thought we were crazy. It's always being mispronounced, but she likes it too. I wanted Elizabeth, but dh doesn't like it so we went with Katherine. I've always liked big royal names too.

glorib- I love that Star Wars cake. I'll have to show DH. I'll bet he'll want one for his birthday. :lmao:

My dh too. I actually made him one a few years ago. It wasn't that cool though. I used different color of sugar to make Endor, Hoth & Degobah & then used the Micro Machine figures to act out different scenes.

Ok, this has pulled down some, and I swear it looks better in person, but here:

For Easter.

Sorry, Max and Ruby was on TV, so she wouldn't look at me...she's also filthy, and I had to stop her from...errr...itching.

Hello! This is the first I've posted on the Part 3 thread. I feel so out of the loop. We had a GREAT time at Disney last month. The weather was awesome. I'll post pics soon!

I do have a serger question. Is the Brother serger from Walmart.com still the serger of "choice"? My MIL gave me a $100 gift card for Christmas to use towards a serger. With my birthday $$, I have enough to buy one. The last time I was looking, you gals (and Tom) gave the Brother serger higher marks than the Singer one at Walmart. Is this still the case? Any others (inexpensive) in the running?

Yes! I totally agree! I am thinking the Aline tops and capris are a good places to start.

I used to feel that way, but then I realized that I wasn't letting Brianna wear so much stuff that she just loved.....so I just started letting her wear whatever she wanted whenever she wanted, as long as it was appropriate.

So, yes, long dresses and ruffles on Saturdays and all summer, here.

good luck with your new resolution!!

I have the Singer serger from Wal Mart. I have used it for little over a year now. Actually, this is my second one. The first one I had conked out after about a week of playing with it. I returned it to Wal-Mart and got another one, and it has worked fine.
I think if this one conks out, I will go with the Brother one. I love their machines, and I think I would like the serger too.
I know, I am such a big help!
Must be because I am such a DORK!;)

We have a sick puppy in our house right now. I took our little baby to the vet and she said that she has bronchitus. She just isn't feeling herself right now. She was having a fit this morning. No matter which way she turned she just couldn't get comfortable and she was shaking so I think her fever came back. I wonder can you give a dog tylenol. I'm gonna have to find out. So needless to say I didn't get much done yesterday and I probably won't get much done today.

Hi - I hope your little doggie is feeling better - I had been told not to give my doggie tylenol, but was able to giver her a little bit of children's aspirin - I either looked it up online, or called the vet - poor little thing!!

I feel the same way. I have now started making DD clothes that she can wear most of the time. Right now though she is the best dressed kid in our neighborhood.

My dh too. I actually made him one a few years ago. It wasn't that cool though. I used different color of sugar to make Endor, Hoth & Degobah & then used the Micro Machine figures to act out different scenes.

That's what I have started doing.

She's doing better. After I gave her her second dose of antibiotics she perked up a bit and now she is harrassing DD or is it the other way around. She brought me her bunny earlier so that means she is feeling better.

YES! We have lots of nice, special occasion outfits, which is why I bought a bunch of inexpensive fabric to make simple skirts with. My dd will only wear skirts, no pants , no shorts, no capris!:sad2: So I figured if I make something quick and inexpensive I won't freak out when it gets filthy! Which is inevidible(sp?) with her!

Ok, this has pulled down some, and I swear it looks better in person, but here:

I love your girl's names! I did two place names, a biblical name and the last name of a famous baseball player!!!! :rotfl:

Here is the first of many outfits to come.

Awwwwwwwww your daughter is so precious! I really love your customs...cute!!!

Oh goodie more cute stuff!!!! Keep posting! Can I CASE your tree shirt next year?! So cute!!! :lovestruc

I just had to post pictures of these. They are actually beads that I bought years ago, and never used. Aren't they adorable. I have 4 Minnie girls, 2 blue and white sailor girls and snow white and the evil queen.
307058754.jpg
Cute beads....do they have a hook or something on the back to attach them to jewelry or hairbows? I bet you could find a little bead to replace that Mickey head. I love em!

Hi there :) I'd like to introduce myself if that's OK :) I would have done so sooner but I had to go wish some folks a happy birthday so I could post a picture with my hello ;)

My name is Laura, I'm a SAHM to two gorgeous toddlers. My daughter, Gabi is 2.5 yrs old and my son, Camden, is 1.5 yrs old. They are only 13.5 months apart so I keep pretty busy. I'm always doing arts and crafts with Gabi and sometimes just for me. I love photography and do lots of it too :)
Welcome! Your little ones are adorable too! Great photography! The last pic is my favorite too with the shoe missing! I love it! :lovestruc

Hi everyone. Well I made another outfit with the fabric I had left from the capris I made for The Peach!

Since my model is at school, I used the next best thing. hahaha Her life size doll I made for her. She uses it to dress it up in her old clothing! Since its her size, its a great model. hahaha
purpleoutfit004.jpg
The outfit came out terrific. But the fact that you put it on the doll is hilarious!!!!!! :lmao:

I really love making the peasant tops, dresses and skirts. I agree about making simple clothes. My problem with this however is.....I dont have a very big fabric stash (or money to enlarge it) or time.:sad2: to do more stuff I want. My project list outweighs my time allottment! pirate:

DH joked when we were at WDW that I should have brought along full body sized bibs or maybe trashbags with arm and leg holes cut out for her to wear over her customs!
Would you be surprised to learn that I took an old t-shirt from my hubby and drew a Mickey head and "mac-n-cheese please" with marker on it? We took it to our evening ADR's for our littlest one to wear over her outfit. She is a M-E-S-S-Y eater!!! :upsidedow Oh lookie....I found a pic of her wearing it...as you can see she finished almost all of her mac and cheese :rotfl: (some of which did make it onto her shirt!)

IMGP3144.jpg

Oh....on the names thing, my son is named after his uncle and his father....his name is Spencer Davis. I got a lot of flack for naming him after a band I had never even HEARD OF. :sad2:

Brianna (Lynne) has a very popular name, but no one complained about her name....probably because we thought she was a boy until a week before she was born....:rolleyes1 (too bad "Andrew Colin" isn't unisex :rotfl: )

Since people are sharing name things, thought I'd share my own. . .

My name (Adianez) is my mom's (Zenaida) backwards :) And I promise, no one, my whole life, has pronounced my name right. . . in fact new teachers on day one would usually say Ms. _____ or just my last name. . . I married a guy with an easily pronounceable name (said how it is spelled) but no one will go near it either. . . it is funny on the first day of classes when professors get to your name and a look of panic and confusion gets to their face. . . I just raise my hand and say, you can call me Adi ;)

I have a cousin who got ultra-creative with her kids. . .

her eldest daughter is named Unique
her second daughter is named Wizdom
Her first son is named Genesis
and the baby, also a boy, is named Knight

She said once she did the first one, she couldn't leave anyone out of the creative/unique names! I think they are great, though not the plans I have for my future babies, but a lot of people have criticized her.

Spring and Summer make it so much easier too. Avery lives in sundresses in the warm weather. They are easy for her to get on and in her case off since she loves to run around the house streakin. What's wrong with little girls? You put the cutest outfit in the universe on them and they'd rather prance around in their Cinderella panties.
