Disboards Dissapointment

I've really been on here for only a few months but I know what you're trying to say. Some people are just that way and can't help but make other people miserable. Don't let them bother you!!! I guarantee you'll get a ton of great posts on your trip report... I've never seen anyone get a bad comment on a trip report but maybe I just haven't read enough. I plan to do one just so that I can have our trip documented somewhere. There's really nowhere else to put pics & a story with it... hopefully we'll see yours soon :)

Maybe another board or forum would be a better fit for you. I'm sure you can find something that fits your style.

You are so very right! I hope you all know that I do realize there are so many wonderful people on here. I don't mean to imply that everyone fits the stereotype that i'm talking about. And the good should outweigh the bad. I guess came on here this morning so excited to come post our story, but first as I was reading through some other posts, it just made me sad and kind of put a damper on my excitement.

Disney is not the 'real world', not in the same sense at least. It's a place where we can forget all our worries and just live in the moment and the magic. Trips don't go perfectly, we all make different choices and may not agree with everyone else...but we all share that love of Disney, otherwise you wouldn't/shouldn't be on here. I think the world and the boards would be a nicer place if people could just truly try to be nice and helpful without being mean. I guess I should just have thicker skin. Disney is my Happy Place:goodvibes

Well said! :woohoo: I agree people get nasty about the silliest things. Ignore the haters and please post your trip report. We would love to read it :dance3:

I know how you feel... I started what I thought was an innocent thread and the next thing I knew, it got really nasty and had to be shut down by the mods. I'm new to all of this. I thought it was just an innocent question. Wow... it was a shock.

I just remember that I come here for information and I can't control what people do or say... I can only control how I react to it.

I'm glad you had such a great trip! I'm sure there are a lot of people who would like to learn from your experiences.

Nope I think this board is just fine for you. Its ok for people to dissagree and have different opinions. But there are some very mean and rude know-it-all people.

Compared to other forums on the internet the DIS boards are very mild. The risk of getting flamed is always there, haters will hate.

Just ignore the self righteous, self serving, self appointed WDW etiquette police and those who see any complaints against WDW as a personal attack against their family.

Other than that, :rotfl:, the boards are a great source of information and there are many nice people.

I've been around here for a while now and I've felt the exact same way at times. There are certain Disers that if I see they have even commented on a thread, I just won't comment at all because I know they will only post negative things. Also, there is a great feature under your User CP where you can block people. I have had to block a few people due to the constant nastiness. In fact there are a couple of people on this thread that I probably need to add to my block list because of their constant negativity. I remember when I was fairly new to this board and got attacked by a couple of people and I also remember getting a few nice, encouraging PMs telling me to ignore the "Bully Moms" here on the Dis. That PM gave me exact names as to who the "Bully Moms" were and to avoid them or block them. And you know, 4 years later, most of those "Bully Moms" are still on here and I do still try to avoid them, because really, it's just a handful of people and most everyone else is helpful and nice. Sometimes I do take a break from the Dis, but I have a personal Disney planning service, so I always come back because even with the occasional negativity, the DIS is still probably the best Disney Planning Resource on the Web.

Truly hope ya'll had a magical vacation!

There's a reason I only lurk in this particular forum anymore. For your stated reasons above.

FWIW, I'd like to see you write up your trip as well. You could help someone else plan their dream trip.

Compared to other forums on the internet the DIS boards are very mild.
Compared to some. On the other hand, I've seen others where more serious subjects are regularly discussed and yet there is less snark and more consistent good manners than one tends to see here. And yes, I've seen worse -- wouldn't join any of those.

It's a continuum.

There are some mean people, but also some very kind people too.Sorry the board is not what you hoped.I have to say I hang out on alot of forums, and this place is TAME compared to some places.

While I haven't spent much time over on the DL side of the boards, I know exactly what you mean! I'm pretty much only active when we have an upcoming trip, just to keep my eyes open about events or changes scheduled during our trip. Reading some of the posts can really get me excited about going! However, there are some people that just love to rain on your parade. I have seen so many simple, innocent questions get dragged on for days and days and pages and pages because people can't seem to let things go. Or, perhaps people aren't really paying attention to what the OP was actually asking for or talking about, and the whole thread gets hijacked and eventually shut down. I have found the "ignore" option to be very helpful here! There are a few people who on these boards who seem to always have to be right and have the last word in everything. Just edit your ignore list, and they don't get that from you anymore! All that aside, I hope you had a great trip and aren't too afraid to share your experiences. First trips can be amazing, and I hope you can feel comfortable enough to post yours here!

I LOVE all things Disney and I found the Disboards when planning my first Disneyland Vacation 4 years ago. I was in heaven. I have spent countless hours just reading and reading on the forums. It's a GREAT tool for planning. And I thought for discussing all things related to your Disney trips. This trip was our first to the World and I switched from the Disneyland side to the World side of the boards, and I must say, I don't feel comfortable here. Every other post has someone flaming someone else. There are so many mean natured comments on this side that it breaks my heart, and makes me say I don't want to read or post on this side. It's sad because there are so many good natured, helpful and knowledgable people on this side, but they get over shadowed by the negative.

We just returned from our first trip and I would love to share our experience and excitment. As I come here to do so, I realize I don't think I'm willing to put my story out there, because I know someone will chime in with something negative and just put a damper on my Disney Spirit.

I can't wait until our next Disneyland trip where I will relish the family like community of those boards, and be an active participant again.

First off, I'd love to hear about your experience and I hope you had a fantastic trip to WDW. Secondly, this is a discussion forum, if you mention that you disliked or liked something there are bound to be other posters that agree or disagree. I know some of the negativatity can get a bit intense at times, but typically that is on hot button issues like line cutting, pool hopping, reuseable mugs etc.

I'm actually wondering if you'll get more flames for this post or your trip report. I think most people would like to hear about your trip than your disappointment in them.

I have to admit, I kinda thought the same thing when I first read the post. It struck me a bit as the pot calling the kettle black.

Compared to other forums on the internet the DIS boards are very mild. The risk of getting flamed is always there, haters will hate.

I absolutely agree. Some other forums are just ruthless, especially to new posters.

it is a matter of working through a lot of the signal to noise ratio. even with the more negative posts, if you can invert the tone of the message there might be some positive to be gained from what is being said.

these forums still remain an invaluable resource for planning and sharing the Disney experience.

a spoonful of sugar and all that...

This board is so mild-mannered and sweet compared to others I have seen!
You would be eaten alive at the SCRAPBOOKING board! I'm not kidding.
A typical response to your "whine" would be:
"So, is this where we beg you to post your report?" or "Don't let the door hit you know the rest....."

If you're not comfortable here, you will be happier someplace else, no doubt.
I'm pretty good at getting what I need from boards and truly having fun. If I'm not having fun, it's not worth my time.

Disney is all about fun and vacation. I have a hard time with the big whiners who seem to act like their trip to Disney was some sort of imposition or hassle. I imagine the rest of their real lives are quite negative too.

Yes there are alot of other forums that are MUCH worse then this one. I feel some people are cowards and hide behind screen names. Some of the things that are said on such forums these same people wouldn't have the nerve to say it to the person's face. To me if you don't like or agree with someone move on no need to comment every single time just to prove your point. Silly really. Oh well, I do get what the OP is saying but I would never not post because of certain people or the so called negativity. Makes me want to post even more.

I agree, If you don't like something just don't do it. Don't try to insist on changing something to your way.

I personally would hate a "discussion" board that was all rainbows and unicorns. That isn't real life and isn't helpful in planning a trip or anything else in life. I actually think this board is to quick to stop discussions and force "niceness" but their board their rules if I don't like it I'm free to go elsewhere.

Totally agree. I think they're definitely too quick to lock threads down over on the restaurant boards - people can get quite passionate about ADR discussions. But I always see healthy discussions as a good thing (as long as people don't resort to name-calling and such).

I don't think people set out to be mean or anything. But then you get some people that troll and ask things they know they shouldn't do. I won't even bring them up here, as we all know what they are. Things that they know people are going to say are wrong, but they are looking for clearance to do them anyway. I can see how that gets people aggrevated. Otherwise, There is alot of useful info on the Dis, hopefully you can still use it to your benefit in the future.
