I LOVE all things Disney and I found the Disboards when planning my first Disneyland Vacation 4 years ago. I was in heaven. I have spent countless hours just reading and reading on the forums. It's a GREAT tool for planning. And I thought for discussing all things related to your Disney trips. This trip was our first to the World and I switched from the Disneyland side to the World side of the boards, and I must say, I don't feel comfortable here. Every other post has someone flaming someone else. There are so many mean natured comments on this side that it breaks my heart, and makes me say I don't want to read or post on this side. It's sad because there are so many good natured, helpful and knowledgable people on this side, but they get over shadowed by the negative.

We just returned from our first trip and I would love to share our experience and excitment. As I come here to do so, I realize I don't think I'm willing to put my story out there, because I know someone will chime in with something negative and just put a damper on my Disney Spirit.

I can't wait until our next Disneyland trip where I will relish the family like community of those boards, and be an active participant again.

I hope you had an amazing first Disney World trip! I remember that first time I was there (the trip was sort of a disaster, we'd gone in July and I didn't have any idea how much planning you can do for a WDW trip!) and how I couldn't get over that feeling of total immersion in Disney Magic. I grew up at Disneyland, CA, but after quite a few trips now, my heart belongs at Disney World.

There is a lot of truth in your post and I don't have any real answers or suggestions. But, even though I do get annoyed with the negativity, I still find myself coming back time and again, because the information here is so good! I have to confess, that I don't aways feel it's particularly "welcoming" here. I find myself scanning and re-scanning my post for something that might offend or cause someone to reply negatively.

Either way, never let anyone dampen your spirit, Disney or otherwise! Welcome home from your trip and enjoy dreaming about your next DCA trip!

There are some mean people on this board BUT there are some very nice people also. I would love to hear your TR. I always take a little something from each and remember it when planning my next trip to the World. Please don't let the negative people (which are usually the first ones to call someone a troll I have found out) give you a bad perspective on how the whole board is. Just ignore these people and move on.

I have been on these boards since Pete started them in the late nineties (despite the date in my siggie!) Yup, some people have nothing better to do than complain and we certainly have our share. But most are happy, helpful Disnuts. I've gotten to a point where I can tell, just from the post title, where the negative posts are going to be and I avoid them. The Moderators do an excellent job of riding herd on us and making us play nice when necessary.

This is however a public forum and there are going to be mean-spirited comments. But I totally disagree (in a nice friendly, hope you stay way:flower3:) that the good stuff is overshadowed by the negative. Hope you hang out long enough to find all the great people here!!!

I got sad when I read your post. Maybe I can help.

There are some places where I have encountered the "real housewives of DIS" and there are other places where I have met the sweetest, most sincere posters. I frequent the places where I am comfortable and ignore the rest.

Please come over to the "Resort Changers" forum where we are all a group of nice people who share laughs and planning with respect and the true Disney Spirit.

Sorry you feel that way. It is like anything else, you have to ignore the posts or the people that are not nice. It isn't just on these boards, it is in life in general!

I'm actually wondering if you'll get more flames for this post or your trip report. I think most people would like to hear about your trip than your disappointment in them.

Oh well. Enjoy the DL board.

I agree, If you don't like something just don't do it. Don't try to insist on changing something to your way.

I personally would hate a "discussion" board that was all rainbows and unicorns. That isn't real life and isn't helpful in planning a trip or anything else in life. I actually think this board is to quick to stop discussions and force "niceness" but their board their rules if I don't like it I'm free to go elsewhere.

OP, I know how excited we were after our first trip to WDW & I would definitely love to hear about yours!

Totally agree! I took a 9 month hiatus from here just because I got tired of the nastiness or heaven forbid try to nicely correct someone when they post something that isnt exactly right! I just came back and started posting here and there again.....but I choose my posts/replies cautiously and I make sure what I post I can back up and not say something as fact. I like my Disney Magic without the drama.....I would love to read your T.R. :)

That's ok too, at least I'm actually giving people something to flame about this time. Most times it's uncalled for, people just look for something to flame. I'm not trying to be mean here, just a realistic view.

I would love to hear about your trip! Did you see the new Winnie the Pooh and HM queues? Where did you stay? Did you have any heart melting moments? I hope you post about your trip. I wish I could sprinkle some pixie dust and make all the snarkiness disappear, but my only contribution can be a wistful desire to hear about the great details of your trip.:grouphug:

There are parts of the DIS I like, and parts of the DIS I don't like as much. I post on the ones I like, and avoid the ones I don't.

Sounds like your experiences would be good for the Trip Report forum, where folks are relatively accepting. Might try posting your thoughts there.

Also wanted to comment on the "hiatus" mention, above. I post on other forums where sometimes it just gets to be too much, and I'll take a break for a few days/weeks. It can be good to clear out the bad vibes and come back when I actually enjoy participating.

As a PP poster said, the Trip Report forum is likely for you. While I can't claim to even read a majority of the reports in there, I've never seen anything but nice comments.

Usually, the problem with message boards is that the people that flame are the loudest. Unfortunately, this board is no different. You shouldn't let anyone get to you. There will always be fights here about certain topics; I usually tend to just not read those threads.

You are so very right! I hope you all know that I do realize there are so many wonderful people on here. I don't mean to imply that everyone fits the stereotype that i'm talking about. And the good should outweigh the bad. I guess came on here this morning so excited to come post our story, but first as I was reading through some other posts, it just made me sad and kind of put a damper on my excitement.

Disney is not the 'real world', not in the same sense at least. It's a place where we can forget all our worries and just live in the moment and the magic. Trips don't go perfectly, we all make different choices and may not agree with everyone else...but we all share that love of Disney, otherwise you wouldn't/shouldn't be on here. I think the world and the boards would be a nicer place if people could just truly try to be nice and helpful without being mean. I guess I should just have thicker skin. Disney is my Happy Place:goodvibes
