Disappointing Changes at BWV/Boardwalk area

How much of the food sold at the parks and resorts is donated? Someone who worked there once told me it was. If that's the case,it's not about money.

Can you still order lunch from Olivia's at the Gurgling Suitcase? I heard they stopped that.

Yes, you can order it. You have to eat it in the Gurgling Suitcase. You can't take it out.

I just did this on November 5.

And what is the pot stirring comment. KidSister likes the DDP, I like the DDP. As to the lobster tails, on the DDP, Captain Jack's offers them and they were wonderful. Believe me in the total scheme of things Disney made enough money the week and half we were there on drinks, OOP dining expenses for us to have lobster on the DDP.

I personally dont think lobster tails need to be on a dining plan. I have no problem with dining plan options for those who want to save money but I dont think those people should get to have their cake and eat it too

And why? :confused3 If Captain Jack's want to offer lobster on their menu and include it on the plan, why does it matter to you.

And actually I had key lime pie with my lobster tails, too.

did not want anyone to think I had my lobster and cake too. ;)

Even though they do offer a delicious chocolate lava cake. And I had shrimp for appetizer too, or was it the crab cake.

Anyway I love the DDP, hope it never goes away. :thumbsup2

What is your point, are you the Grinch. Many like the offerings at BCV Marketplace, if you don't sorry but the "World" does not cater to the whims on one person, which at this point I am beginning to think is what it will take to make you happy.

At this point I don't think DVC or Disney can please some of you and the poor horse you are beating has been dead for a long time.

Sorry for the confusion.

I'm not the grinch, I like BCV offerings for food. I just find it funny that someone would want a replication of what is offered accross the pond.

The pot stirring comment was made because it seemed that post was made simply with the intention of riling up the anti DDP. I have no problem with those that choose the DDP but to rub it in how they are eating lobster anf Filet off that plan is a little much. As others have said that loss of money is being made up somewhere.

I'm really not that hard to please. Soirry if you feel otherwise.

I do not think the DDP is robbing from Peter to pay Paul. I think all restaurant food is seriously over priced and Disney is willing to make less of a mark up to get guest to spend "all" of their money with them. I do not think it is losing them any money. Now it might be costing some of the nonDisney owned restaurants such as WS, some money over what they were making due to markup. But I think it would take more than one year of a very active DDP to be certain. If you have more guests eating year round at less mark up you are still making more.

Many guests on the DDP never use all that the plan provides so Disney is definitely making money off of them. We did not order all of our desserts or appetizers. The fact that walk ups are nonexistent now due to the DDP proves all restaurants are staying busier than ever before. How is that losing them money.

Disney is not losing money on the plan because they are getting tickets, rooms at rack rate etc. from it. If they are losing any I suspect it would be more from DVC getting it than Resorts. But I think they were willing to give members the option as a perk for being a member.

We tipped more on the DDP than we ever did prior. Our server at Captain Jack's got her 18% then an extra $20 which gave her a $50 tip on a meal that was about $125. She was thrilled with the DDP.

I feel sure before releasing the DDP, the bean counters weighed every possible scenario on the money situation and knew it was a win/win for them.

There truly is no way to know whether the changes that have occured would have happened anyway, irregardless of the DDP. Personally I think they are simply responding to guest demand, and that some DISers have different tastes from the majority.

Dumbo71 you said when Carli called you and listened to your concerns you felt good about the situation. We feel that way each every time we go to Disney and stay at a DVC resort. We have had issues and each one was addressed with immediate concern and response for a more than satisfactory resolution.

OK, maybe it's not the DDP. But the DDP mentality is ruining WDW in my book.

How else can you explain the decline in upkeep of the parks? It's disgraceful, and it's caused by the "make a buck" mentality that's gotten even worse than when Eisner was there.

All of a sudden, they are trying to turn WDW into a generic, run of the mill amusement park. That's what comes from constantly watching the bottom line, instead of trying to make the magic they are known for.

I can put up with a lot, and have over the 30 years I've gone to Disney, but dirty parks and substandard food, generic really raise my ire.

Yeah, yeah, it's a business. But the Disney business model is quality. The DDP means that to feed the masses they are dumbing down the menus. Anyone who can't see that is truly kidding themselves.

It's a vicious cycle. Hopefully Disney can recognize it before it spirals out of control, and they lose all their cache.

I have a 5 year old son who is in love with Mickey and the world, so for me, leaving isn't currently in the cards. But it could be in the future if WDW keeps whittling away at what made it special, all so they can feed a bunch of people on the DDP.

Jodifla, If I was seeing what you are describing then I do would be upset.

I just did not see it during our trip. We had great service, delicious food and the parks were as clean as ever.

I did see more rude obnoxious guests than ever before, but not sure Disney can control that, even though I have complained about it to them. I even suggested it is time for a Public Service bulletin on the Disney tv channels in the room with Disney characters acting out appropriate and inappropriate behavior. I can so see Stitch and Donald Duck in the roles of the rude, guests. :rotfl:

We were there in Feb. and May. Our rooms were fine. The bathrooms at the parks were very hit or miss. Some pretty dirty by WDW standards.

The food at the Yachtsman seemed not as good to me...it's our favorite restaurant. DH's food was fine, as was DS. The menu commonality was shocking. Same salad at Olivia's as at the Yacht Club Galley. That's the DDP for you. Couldn't get takeout at Olivia's...that's the DDP as well.

We go again in January. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

I guess a lot is personal choice. I like the salads at the Galley so having the same thing at Olivia's would please me. We never do carry out, so that loss does not bother me either. Our food at the Yachtsmans was as good as any trip we have ever had there and we have eaten there every year since they opened. We always have the same server.

I guess at the restrooms we missed the dirty times. Hopefully your next trip will be blessed with hitting the good times as ours was. :thumbsup2

Okay, I apologize if this has already been adressed (I made it to page 5 of this thread...no further). But, someone mentioned that these changes are happening at all poolside bars....has the "no food" option happened at BCV? Do any recent visitors know?

TIA!!

Beca...should have kept reading! Sammie has posted that the "no food at BWV pool" rumor is not true.

See Sammie's Thread for details.

DH and I are here at BWV. We booked a standard-view room and they gave us a room on the first floor, directly behind Leaping Horse. I just sent DH over to ask about the food options but they are shut (it's quite cool here today - expected high 59 degrees!) He checked the menu and under "Snacks" they list "assorted sandwiches" (that's the only item listed). Since we are just steps away, we will check back periodically to try to catch them when they are open. Sammie has good contacts, so I am not in any doubt that she's got the straight story. I just thought that for those who want to hear it from the Leaping Horse's mouth, I'm in a great location to do so.

My biggest disappointment with Leaping Libations was the change in the alcohol drinks. No more roller coasters!!! (Although the bartender did make us one but what happens when a new bartender comes along and has no idea what you're talking about!)

Cyn
Yep! No Tilt-A-Whirls either!! We were there 3 times this year and not once did the bartenders know how to make it!! :furious:

We just returned this afternoon from 13 nights at the BWV. As I posted before there is a more limited menu that includes a couple of sandwiches at Leaping Horse Libations. The first week was very warm and my brother and family went and were going to have lunch but decided not to with the limited menu. As I posted previously, we were able to take out food at ESPN. We had a great time. We had 3 different rooms and they were all in great shape. The CMs were wonderful. One room was ready at 1:00 PM and it was even 2123 one of the big 1 bdrs. We loved every minute of our trip and didn't want to come home.
