ok..i know its totally OT as far as Peepishness, but i just had to bring it up. This morning Lindsay was pulled over AGAIN for a DUI and she had coke in her pocket. Didn't she JUST get out of rehab.

I would normally just think " what a spoiled idiot star..has too much money to know what to do with and she is just doing whatever" but if you look at her family life..what a mess!!

No wonder she is the way she is..her mom just wants to be famous, and her dad is a nut job too..i actually feel bad for her to some degree. And i am so grateful for my NORMAL non-rich non-famous life and loving family.

anyhoo..that was just my celebrity/gossip/rant of the day..so far
call me heartless but i don't feel sorry for her at all. she was given the world and look what she did with it. i personally know people that have come from worse family situations than that and come out on top. she needs to grow a brain. i'm definitely grateful to be "normal" too, whatever that means!!!
I thought the exact same thing, when I heard this reported on the news this morning. I feel bad for her but also feel like telling her, "ok your an adult now, time to take responsibility for your life". Reminds me of the whole Drew Barrymore situation when she was growing up, but there is a woman I admire for getting herself together and taking responsibility!
i agree......grow up! but the difference with her and drew barrymore is that barrymore messed up when she was like 13 years old....the years her mom SHOULD HAVE been taking care of her. lindsay's like 21 and should know better. even if her parents haven't taught her some of the things they should have, it's just common sense that a 21-year-old should have!
Hey guys....get me back on track. Between my two vacations I gained a very "unpretty" amount of weight. I have to change my ribbon back to 20 lbs.

I made very bad choices when i was on vaca and now am having a lot of trouble getting back on the wagon. HELP!!!!
we're here to help you back on!!!!!! just get your mind in the right frame and you'll get motivated.......YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!
OK BB Fans - the scoop is in - PM me if you want the spoiler (did they show the POV winner yet???) THe house alliance has spoken!! I know who's goin!! neener neener!!!
lalalalalalala.............i'm not listening!!!!!!!!!
I was very, very stupid today. I needed to move some furniture at home so the painter could paint--then I went to my classroom and needed to move my teacher's desk. My oldest helped me move both, but I am soooo paying for it. If I wasn't preggo it would not have phased me at all, but I am very sore now!!
stop it! don't hurt yourself. i've never been pregnant, but i've been told that's one of the best parts......you can have everybody else do everything for you!
kat - here's anna's answers to your questions. it's in two parts because i sent her two different e-mails (one with the first question and then a second with the question you posted a few minutes later). hope it helps!
-------------
FIRST PART:
When you first begin a new exercise (whether it's a cardio machine or weight lifting) your body goes through an adjustment period. The muscles that you use for that particular exercise will be a little sore as they grow and adapt to the new movement and exertion. With weightlifting you will absolutely need to change your workouts periodically so that your body does not reach a plateau and you stop burning as many calories. With cardio machines it is not the same. Your body will adapt to the movement and you may not be as sore after a few weeks, but you will still continue to burn calories while you are on the machine.
The elliptical machines are great for cardio especially if you have joint problems (i.e. rheumatoid arthritis) because of the smooth movement and lack of hard impact on the joints. I recommend revving up the elliptical instead of jogging to all of my clients that have issues with joint pain.
Know this though, with cardio training you are only burning calories while you are on that machine. With weight lifting you are burning calories not only during your workout but also over the next 24-48 hours post-workout while your body is recovering from the workout and building that little bit of muscle.
For healthy adults, I recommend at least 3 days of weightlifting (at the appropriate intensity for your fitness level) and a cardio session 3-5 times a week 30-45 min per session.
For those wishing to burn more calories I may recommend more cardio more often or at a higher intensity ( for example interval training).
GOOD group fitness classes are an excellent way to build muscle and burn fat in minimal time, and it's like free personal training. That is of course if it is a GOOD class with a knowledgeable and caring instructor.
The best of luck to your friend. It is great when people really care about fitness and their health. Consistency and dedication is key to finding your best you!
SECOND PART:
The cardio that your friend is doing is great! It is a good idea to switch up the machines every now and then just because you will use slightly different muscles on different machines. There is not a significant difference though, it just helps to keep you ( and your body) from getting bored.
If you are not getting the results you think you should from your cardio sessions, try switching up the type of cardio that you do. Find a dance class, run sprints at a local track or even skating sprints on the ice after hockey practice. You could increase the amount of time for each session and or increase the intensity. I have seen great results from interval training. Up the intensity of the workout for a few seconds or a few minutes depending upon the type of cardio you are doing. Then decrease the intensity for a few minutes for a short "rest period". After a short rest, up the intensity again for another interval. Interval training is great if you know what you are doing, but you need to pay attention to your heart rate. Do what your body tells you to do. If you try going too intense for too long, you will fatigue your body too soon and not be able to safely and properly complete the session. If you do not work intensely enough for the right amount of time then you will not achieve the desired results.
Because there are so many factors that come into play when you are trying to get into shape, I highly recommend that everyone consult a qualified trainer or doctor if you have any questions about your body or exercise. It is always better to play it safe rather than be sorry.
