Just wanted to say Good Morning! :goodvibes

DH and I are going to enjoy the day. I'll check in later!

Mornin Peeps! I'm off today to a soccer tournament for ds Hunter. I love watching my boys play sports! When my oldest started football last fall for his middle school, I threatened to buy a cheerleader costume from goodwill and do cheers from the side line! Evan wasn't amused!
I'm finally starting to feel like myself again. I think my medicine switch is finally working. :yay: I really hope I didn't offend or gross anyone out with my little story yesterday!:scared:

Does anyone know how disneydawn is? I'm a little worried about her.

Good morning everyone! I am off to an open interview at the amusement park a few miles away. I need a summer job b/c I nanny for a teacher. I worked there about 6 years ago as a "ride operator." Ugh. It pays crap and I don't think they offer FT. I could find a summer nanny job but I really would like a break from the kids for 10 weeks. Especially b/c when you come in for just the summer you usually get older kids, out of school, and they don't listen to you at all. Then SuperNanny has to kick in and it makes for an exhausting summer. Anyway, enjoy the great weather!!! :goodvibes

Dawn, so does that mean all your work was for nothing or do you still get paid for it? That's got to be frustrating for everyone involved!

i get a "per diem" amount for every day i'm in court. that amount is right around $175 per day. for criminal stuff that doesn't matter if i'm there for 5 minutes or 8 hours - it's the same amount. all criminal matters have to be taken down by a court reporter, so that's like the flat rate per day. if i type it i get $3.57 per page, but usually it's only typed if there's a conviction. i make more money off civil stuff (divorces, contract disputes, etc.) because none of that is required to be taken down, so if the person wants a court reporter there to make a record, they have to pay for what's called takedown. basically i get my per diem fee ($175) plus i get $40.87 per hour for taking down. so i definitely like doing civil stuff better!!! the state sets those rates and they usually go up a few cents every year.

now that everyone has had their daily lesson in court reporting rates, you may all return to more interesting things!!!!

Actually, I find this VERY interesting. popcorn::

I've always been fascinated with court reporters and language translators. It seems that you have to be VERY focused in what you do. There can't be any wiggle room in your thought process for "I wonder if there's any of that chicken salad leftover for lunch" or even "33 more days and my feet will be liftin' off the floor for Soarin'!"

A few years ago I was on a jury for a medical malpractice case. Talk about vocabulary and acronyms. YIKES. :scared1: I was in total awe over the court reporter just a tapppin' away to beat the band - never missing a beat.

How do you keep up?

Occasionally I hire transcriptionists to take down notes for software user group meetings. I've not had much success with the average temp with shorthand skills - mostly because they don't know the vocabulary. Their notes are much worse during roundtable sessions when there is open discussion and everyone is using acronyms.:sad2:

Have you ever thought about freelancing outside of the court system?

Punkin, I am also in awe of court reporting. We have one who comes in for some meetings I am involved in. The regular reporter has become pretty used to the jargon and does a pretty good job. Last time we had a substitute and I got some good laughs from reading the transcript, but we're not allowed to make corrections, so we put a disclaimer on the Web site when we post them that they are uncorrected. I hope we get our regular reporter back at the next meeting!

Is that the pilates thing they were talking about on the view that helps you have a nice "moment" by yourself?:rotfl:
Actually, it was a raised, round carpet-covered platform that people were exercising on at a Pilates studio instead of laying on the floor. So, basically it's at a height where you can scooch to the edge and get up from sitting position. It would be much easier on my knees than getting up from the floor. I probably won't have as big an aversion to exercising on the floor after I lose another 50 pounds or so!

I saw that comment from The View on The Soup last night and thought of my Peeps!!!!!!!!

I love when someone else is going right through what I'm going through. No real AF from Sept. to last week. Pants getting loose. The pants I wore today had been too SHORT, and now they aren't. Could it be because there's less junk in the trunk taking up the fabric? So hang in there ladies. We're in this together!
Yeah, I hear you, Danielle! Fortunately, it looks like a VERY short visit from AF for me :confused3

I have experienced the longer pants effect and finally had someone at work say they thought it looked like I had lost some weight (of course she is stick thin, bur very supportive on weight loss/fitness matters)!!!

Everyone, hope you're all having gorgeous weather and are enjoying the day!!! :sunny:

I had one of my Indian coworkers yesterday say wow, you getting skinnier. Another one nearby says, NONO, you can't say that to a woman, it's offensive. I was like, uhh... no. It's only offensive to tell a woman she's FAT!

I think I am going to join the Sept challenge after all. Here are my unimpressive stats: 218/201/170. I will contribute $5, or whatever you need... not very crafty though so about all I can contribute is free website development (what I do for a living) or maybe a custom siggie pic or something.

Court reporting... fascinating!! Never really thought about that profession before.

What is this "meet" of which you speak? We will be in WDW Sept 15-26 so if something is planned around that time, and if I am welcome, I would be glad to join in.

Today is breakfast for lunch day... pancakes w/ calorie-free syrup, omelette w/ mushroom/onion/green pepper made w/ eggbeaters, frozen hash browns, coffee. Total, 500 cals. Dinner is red snapper and maybe a baked potato and broccoli and a salad. No exercise planned, giving the poor tired sore body a rest.

Is it okay for me to post menus here? I was hoping to get/give ideas... sorry, I am super-chatty so I might post too much/too long.

DD won her first game. WE head back at 6:00 for game 2. If we win game two and do well in game three we will most likey proceed to semi fianls. If we go to semi finals then we go to the state tournament which is the same weekend DH and I are going to the world :confused3 Sorry, but I will not give up my trip :rolleyes1 .

Now must go the grocery store

Just found out last night that some friends are due the same day we are.

Alos, say a prayer. Another friend who is a few weeks ahead of me went in for her 5mth checkup and they could not find a heartbeat. This has been a rough week for them. THey are already going through so much--back in March a teenager at our high school lost control of his car on a bridge and hit my friends husbands car ---the teenager was killed. THey are are not doing well with that at all and now this has happened. I know there are some praying people on this board so please lift this family in your prayers.

I'm dying for new ideas myself - so I love that you are posting menus.

I had an almost identical breakfast, sans pancakes or hash browns, and I rolled it all into a whole-wheat tortilla. (I did say ALMOST identical, right?)

Wish I had a recipe for good salsa - I have a weird 'thing' that allows my tongue to taste preservatives that no one else apparently does, so my options on bottled salsa and salad dressings are limited to that which I can make myself.

This is apparently a rare 'gift' that only a few inherit. Found this out the hard way during a anatomy and physiology lab in college, in a class about genetics. Strips of preservative soaked paper were just sitting there in a jar in the center of the lab table while the professor gave his lecture and instructions about what we were going to do. When he talked about this 'ability' to 'super-taste' I knew immediately what he was talking about--and couldn't wait for his lecture to end and the experiments to begin. I grabbed a strip and stuck it in my mouth--:scared: and immediately began to gag. As inconspicuously as I could, I gakked my way out of the room to the water fountain in the hall, where I stood for a good five minutes "rinsing" my tongue. :sad2:

ANYWAY...I enjoy your chattiness too!

Lifting them up.

I love it when people post menus too. Lynda (DisneyFreak92) posts her menus and calories quite often. She has some yummy sounding stuff. As for me....

RE: breakfast....I never ate breakfast before starting here at the peeps thread but now eat the same breakfast every morning. Low sugar instant oatmeal made with vanilla soy milk and 2 T. flax seed meal.

Lunch....small portion of something I can heat up. I don't really like cold sandwiches.

Snack......Fiber One with soy milk or yogurt or a salad

Dinner....small portion of what everyone else has. I try to be finished eat for the night by 6 pm.

Other stuff: I also try to drink plenty of water and when I crave sweets, I go for a dove dark chocolate square...sometimes 2. I have found that I am NOT willing to give up some things...like whole milk in my coffee. So I measure out one cup every morning and when it's gone, it's gone.

RE: Exercise. I never exercised before I started here and now I walk 30 minutes w/ 2# weights 3 or 4 times per week. I can really see a difference in my body and in my weight!

Now I'm the chatty one!

Aww I wish I could... unfortunately we are bringing another couple w/ us for this trip, and we already have all dinners planned.

I will try and find the thread for the meet.

I want beer. Need to be strong... these lazy hockey playoff Saturdays are killing me. *sips Diet Sunkist*

Does anyone have good munchy snack ideas? 94% ff popcorn is one... veggies and dip made w/ ff sour cream is another...

Karen, that is too bad about the preservative thing. I bet that makes any kind of prepackaged *anything* really difficult! For the salsa... I bought one of those vidalia chopper things that they show on TV at a kitchen outlet near here. It was $15 or $20, I can't remember, but it TOTALLY kicks butt for dicing and chopping and then goes right in the dishwasher. I bet it would help w/ salsa preparation!

Thanks everyone for all the encouragement! I will continue to post menus then! :)

Better late than never... I'm down -2this week! Went to a pilates class this morning (1/2 hour) then did step (1/2 hour). I can now say that I do NOT like step.

I am an eating machine today, and I don't care! Yum.popcorn::

Hi Peeps!

I'm back! The cruise was AWESOME and I'm itching to do another one. Very relaxing - I thought of nothing but having fun and what time the next bingo session was :rotfl:

I will post more details later and try to get a couple pics up as well. I also need to catch up on 6 days worth of posts which will not be easy. I'm just doing nothing tonight and entering the real world again tomorrow.

Hope you all have been well! :cutie:

Prayers sent, Pigget.

I never knew about this before, Karen! That would be a tough think to deal with.

I have an over-developed sense of smell. It is often not a fun thing to be "blessed" with. Fragrances/perfumes are really difficult for me to be around. My friends and family are frequently annoyed with me.

I have a tough time at Epcot World Showcase, especially around France after everyone has spritzed themselves with that French perfume. Talk about gakking!!! As a result, I have never been to see that attraction. Occasionally, I'll suck it up so I can get a pastry at the Patisserie, though ;)

Kat - I have picked up some Athenos brand whole wheat pita chips from the deli area at Wal-Mart before that are very good with hummus. Nice and crunchy! I just had a handful with some minestrone soup.
