I hope you all are having a great morning! I threw out all of our Christmas candy that have been sitting in bowls all around the house. It was a lot of candy. The hardest to toss was the Ghiradelli squares and the Lindt truffles. They were too much of a temptation for me. I tried giving them away but no one wanted them. I guess everyone is candied-out. :confused3 I did discover one bag of Reese's peanut butter cups in the freezer this morning. I was soooo tempted...but I tossed them too.:woohoo:

Well, I got laundry to do and some vacuuming...talk to you all later!

Good thinking!! I brought a load of candy and leftover brownies to work today and someone just gave me a giant bag of Lindt truffles...:headache: They are going out the door too.

BTW, nice to meet you...:)

Monica Thanks for the hug and understanding. It had to have been a new and improved model. I hope your DS is feeling better soon. It is awful when your child is sick. I worry myself into a knot.

UM, I just don't get it. It makes me batty!! Oh, and I am completely addicted to the Twilight series. I checked out the websit you recommended and enjoyed reading a few of the posts. I am glad I am not alone :)

Just a quickie this morning -

Height - I'm 5'8", probably about average for a woman. Too bad I'm not a woman. My "little" brother is about 6'3". Don't know what happened to me. He got the height from my mom's side, and I got the non-existent metabolism. Where's the justice in that? At my brother-in-law's wedding this past weekend, the cousin-in-laws that I hang out with are 6'2", and 6'4". And my wife's uncle is 6'5". Talk about a Napoleon complex!

Weather - All of you in double digits, consider yourselves lucky! It is currently Zero degrees, with a wind chill of -7. But I like cold weather, so it doesn't bother me. Of course, they are saying we could reach 50 degrees by early next week. Gotta love Wisconsin winters.

Hope everyone is doing well! I find out tomorrow morning how much damage Christmas and the wedding did to me. Hopefully these three days of healthy eating and exercising will make it a not-so-bad number.

Good Morning Peeps !

Well.. I am ready to climb back on the wagon. I put about 3 pounds on over the holiday :scared1: and I really want to get rid of them.

I made a huge pot of no-fat/ Veg/ Cabbage soup this weekend and I froze it in muffin cups. I have 48 little pucks of healthy goodness. Whenever I am hungry I throw one in the microwave and Voila...instant warm snack.

Aaron...I am up for the Valentines challenge. Put me down for 5 pounds...:yay:

I am off to the bookstore to get the first Twilight book...I have nothing to read at the moment and I can't wait to start it.

These are going to be my weight loss rules...

-Drink 4 litres of water a day
-No white carbs
-as much (non-starchy) Veg as I want
-fish at least twice a week
-more fibre

Today has been pretty good...
So far...
1 litre of plain water
1 coffee with 1%milk and a tiny bit of sugar
1 slice of melon
1 bowl of Special K Choc delite with 1% milk and 1TBS of ground flax seed (I learned this from Melinda and now I try and add it to everything...I usually add it to muffins/smoothies/ baked goods)

Lunch will be a big bowl of Cabbage Veg soup with 1/2 cup of barley added.

Snack: LF triscuit crackers with LF laughting cow cheese and a bit of Jacks fresh salas (from Costco...super yummy)

Dinner...Undecided

What are you peeps eating today ?????

I am on the short side at only 5'1''. It is very hard to carry extra weight at this height.

Also Sandy. I think you might be forgetting to put your yarn in the front of your work when purling. That might be why you are getting the holes. Try that first.

Laura :goodvibes

what language is this?

Pixie Dust to those needing prayers. Cancer Sucks. Period.:wizard:

Garsh! i need to meet lots of folks here seems like...it's been forever, life happens i guess...but let me tell you a little of what i've been doing... Heavy Weight Lifting. like with the boys n all. and it was working before the holidays. but i couldnt get to the gym at all during christmas and ate like a crazy woman, so its time to reign in. i renewed my mission this week, and even succumbed to the dreaded bathing suit picture. OMG :scared1: who is that fat girl with my face? so - i have tried diet and i have tried cardio. what works for me tho is the wieghts. i didnt lose many lbs, but i have shed several inches. so now i know this is what my body responds to. I am trying a program called Body For Life. its kinda south beachy like dietwise, with a workout program. i'll let you know how i do...and i may post measurement loss if i dont see scale loss...cause i want to keep things positive.

questions for you...

what is your short/long term goal?
what is one thing you could do today to make that goal happen?
what is one habit that is holding you back from reaching your goal?

Happy Thursday Everybody!!!:thumbsup2

Asking for some prayers and Pixie Dust for my cousin. She is 1 year younger than me (44) and just found out she has cancer of the colon and the liver. She has a very long road ahead of her. She says she refuses to die from this, because she simply cannot. She has five kids. The oldest is 14. I'd really appreciate your prayers on this one.

I will be remembering you and your family in my prayers. I know that this is hard time for everyone.

My son is still sick. I won't be sending him to school this week, only 2 days.
He has an apt tomorrow with his Dr. He still has a temp anywhere from100-102. And his cough. Yikes. I know they need to cough with pnemonia. Last night was the first we did have to give him cough medicine. Usually he'd wake up just choking coughing. Not last night. Hope that's a sign. Plus all the medicine is really bugging his stomach and he's not eating. He's only 80 pounds. I can tell he's lost weight.

He just woke up. Still has the fever. He stood up from the chair and his eyes started to bug, he said he couldn't see. He stood up too fast and he's weak. Poor kid. This is just killing me inside.

Sorry that your DS is sick. Haved you tried vicks vapor rub on the sole of his feet covered with a sock ---I do not know why but I know this helps stop bad coughing while you sleep. Hope he recovers soon.

It has been a rough morning here. It was below freezing last night and I know that it is colder elswhere. Over the summer we had a tanless water system put in so we would always have hot water and guess what NO HOT WATER!!!! It froze on outside wall. Our builder was here most of the morning trying to get it going. WE had a hair dryer going and now we left a light bulb in the unit to see of that will help. If it does not get much warmer we may be without hot water :scared1: I refuse to take a cold shower. Oh yeah, the maual says these units hould not freeze up---:headache:

I have 90 min before I have to leave for a meeting :sad2: hopefully something will happen soon.

questions for you...

what is your short/long term goal?
what is one thing you could do today to make that goal happen?
what is one habit that is holding you back from reaching your goal?
Short/long term goals - I'll expand it to a short, medium, and long term goal
Short term - Start posting good numbers every week. Seems I've been losing and gaining the same 5-7 pounds for the past three months.
Medium term - We're going to a water park in June, and I would love to be comfortable enough to spend the day with my shirt off (why do I feel so embarssed to admit that?). That would require being awfully close to my 155 lb goal weight.
Long term - Once I finally reach that goal, to keep it off. Losing it is easy when you compare it to keeping it off.

The one thing I can do today - Exercise. It is still way too easy for me to just say "I don't feel like it" and stay on the couch.

The one habit holding me back - I think the reason I've been able to lose 35+ pounds so far is because I've been able to kick all of my bad habits. I don't snack any more, I'm able to convince myself to exercise every night, I drink plenty of water. But if I had to pick one thing, I'd say that when I do decide to splurge, I go way overboard. We're talking going to dinner and having potato skins with sour cream for an appetizer, a full rack of ribs with mashed potatoes or French fries, probably a beer or two, and top it off with a big slice of some sort of chocolate dessert (or possibly a trip to Cold Stone Creamery where I'll have a "Gotta Have It" portion of ice cream in a cone). I have to learn to splurge without over doing it.

harleygirl That was knitting language. My name is Laura, nice to meet you. :yay:

Tinkabella I was following the three day diet (another post) but now I am doing my points with WW.

Here's what I ate:

Breakfast - two slices of WW whole wheat toast, two fried eggs cooked with 5 sprays of I can't believe it's not butter, coffee with splenda and half and half

snack - banana (DD wanted it and didn't finish it), apple (DD wanted it and didn't finish it), I see a pattern here but at least it's fruit and I am counting it

Lunch - :confused3 I went out shopping this morning and didn't get home until 11:30 so I ate breakfast late.

Dinner - Hot dogs with light bread, broccoli, carrots

snack - fat free yogurt

My goals are as follows:

what is your short/long term goal? I wish to lose 150 lb (at least by next year); I also wish to run in the WDW marathon some day

what is one thing you could do today to make that goal happen? Keep on my WW program and count everything that goes into my mouth

what is one habit that is holding you back from reaching your goal? habit

Well as I said above peeps, the three day diet went out the window but I am keeping track of my WW points and doing well so far I might add. Now I just have to think what I am going to do about lunch, it's only 1:00 pm and I ate about 1 1/2 hour ago breakfast. Am I hungry? My stomach says no but my brain always tells me yes. So I am going to go drink some water and change my DD's diaper. Talk to everyone later.

Laura

What are you peeps eating today ?????
Breakfast - FiberOne Honey Clusters cereral with skim milk and a glass of Diet V-8 Berry Blend juice
Morning Snack - FiberOne Oats and Chocolate bar
Lunch - A turkey sandwich (just two slices of turkey on bread, no mayo or anything), a bag of 100-Calorie Orville Redenbacher popcorn, and a Light Hostess Cupcake.
Afternoon Snack - Keylime Pie yogurt
Dinner - Still up in the air. Either a small porkchop and some veggies, or hamburgers (I make them myself with 99% lean ground beef), and an orange for dessert.

Short term goals: To meet my mini challenges that Aaron sets up for us along the way. Baby steps.

Long term goals: To lose all the weight this time. No starting and stopping, no falling off the wagon. No more excuses. This is it!!! I am tired of starting all over again.

What can I do today: Keep my online journal going. Keep being accountable.

Whats your one habit holding you back: My one habit is eating alone. I can totally go on a binge if left alone.

Oh I hope you get your boiler fixed, I don't do cold showers either. Yes it's cold up here in CT 11 degrees but I'm sure it's colder somewhere else.

Laura :flower3:

Hey everyone...it is COOOOOLLLLDDDD today here in MA!! It says 11 degrees but with the wind chill its about -10...YIKES!!!
I think i will still be on point today, although we do have our Holiday dinner with Greg's Grandparents tonight ( they were in CA for the real deal)..but i am sure i can eat reasonably well all day and be smart in what i consume this evening :) I just hope they don't have any ridiculously good appetizers..they always have such yummy cheeses:rolleyes: ..back away from the brie!!!!

Oh for the height thing..i am 5'3"....shorty mc shortstuff.

Can someone tell me how to steam broccoli in the microwave? I like it but have never cooked it at home, always out I ate it. I bought some and would like to have some for dinner tonight. It's actually a new veggie for me, never really liked it then I had it at Appleby's with their WW dinner menu and loved it so I want to have it more at home. Hope someone can help me?

If it's frozen I just boil mine. Until it's almost soft. You can check by poking with a fork. Drain when done and put back in pot. Sprinkle with morton's lite salt and smart balance spread or other healthy alternative to butter or you can use a tiny bit of olive oil. Toss and enjoy.

It it's fresh, I just boil it until almost soft and sprinkle with ML salt.

I am going to be lame and piggy-back from A above, except for the medium term goal which is to have at least a net 5 lb loss in mid-Feb (post WDW trip). He seemed to have just hit the nail on the head for me, for the others.

I have a microwave-able steamer (got it from pampered chef), but if I didn't have that, I would take the broccoli, put it in a shallow microwavable bowl, add enough water for an inch or two at the bottom, cover w/ saran wrap, and microwave at probably 4-5 minutes to start and in minute increments until it is the way you want it. I salt/pepper and spray w/ a bit of Parkay spray.

Food today:
Breakfast: WW English muffin (100) w/ 1/2 TBSP sugar free raspberry jam (5) + coffee
Lunch: Banquet frozen 2 drumstick chicken meal (420) + soup-at-hand (70)
Dinner: Not sure yet... probably frozen meal and soup, or maybe a salad. Has to be around 600 cals to keep me at 1200
Exercise: 30 min on the elliptical (275 cals burned) + 50 crunches on exercise ball

**peeks in**

Hey Peeps...Remember me?

I took a little hiatus from this thread. Actually all of the DIS right after I got back from my weekend at WDW in mid-December. I've been busy, stressed, and just didn't want any disney reminders since I do not have a trip planned and I'm not even thinking about planning a trip to disney anytime soon. I sort of had the disney blues. My cousing is still living with my mom and I and it's really getting old. She is making no effort to get things together, and even though my mom says she will be tough, she isn't. Which I guess I understand. It's easier said than done. But still. I start my last semester and last internship next week and I'm very nervous about it. And on the 12th of this month, I'm taking my certification exam which I feel very unprepared for. I should have studied a lot more and now I'm worried I will nto pass. I can take it again in March but I really want to pass it on the first try. I'm starting my new eating regime on Monday (back to WW...well following the program, but not attending meetings or anything) and I just printed out the couch to 5k running plan. My goal is to get up early every morning before work and exercise. It will suck, especially in the beginning, but I know it will be worth it. Oh and I have a new favorite tv show - Jon and Kate plus 8. It's on TLC and then re-aired on Discovery Health. There was a marathon the other day and I sat for 4 hours watching it! I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I'm ready to re-new my Peep membership and make 2008 my year!

So since I'm not going to even bother reading all the pages I've missed, could someone give me a little summary of what has been going on here?

It's great to be back!

What I am eating today:

Had an orange for breakfast.
Am about to have a pear for my snack.
Lunch will be a lean cuisine pannini
Dinner is either going to be an apple and a pear or a lowcal salad at cheesecake factory

Goals:

Short term--not to gain weight at WDW starting in 10 days
Mid term--to lose one more clothing size to reach my goal and start working harder at muscle tone so that I can wear a bathing suit next Jan for our cruise
Long term--to stick with the plan so that I remain healthy

I was curious and looked into this... whether or not microwaving food removes nutrients seems to be a bit of a controversy. Some say it does, some say it doesn't.

However, it seemed most were in agreement that boiling definitely removes nutrients, that the water winds up better for you than the food.

Steaming appears to leave most of the nutrients intact, as well as stir-frying.

You can buy a steamer insert for your pots fairly cheaply, I think...

This day is never-ending. Is it time to go home yet??

I ate today:

Breakfast: mushroom and cheese omelette 1 1/2 cups coffee with slenda
snack: cucumber, a whole one with seasoned salt
Lunch: Salad with shrimp and chicken, bacon bits, feta, and chick peas
pm sanck: ???maybe celery sticks and cream cheese
dinner: probably stir fry again. Love it! with beef

I have had 6 glasses of water and a glass of fake peach tea crystal lite with lots of crushed ice.

Wonders: :welcome: back! Most of us have recommitted ourselves and started right with you. So glad you are back. How was the trip?

Sandy and aldisneygrl are going to WDW in a week to run.

Aaron and Dawn posted some current pics are their weightloss so far and look fabulous. A must see . Worth scrolling for.

Lots of newbies.

We are all in it to win (lose) so lets do it together!
