First off- congrats to all our losers today!!! :cool1:

Second... I just saw on my news here that they are prosecuting 3 people who work at my post office distrbution center (in Frisco TX, for any TX peeps)for stealing checks, gift cards and packages from the mail! That is so crazy! I now have to contact them though because I have 3 checks I sent (through there for sure) over a month ago that are still floating around unclaimed and unfound. One of them was cashed by somebody other than who I sent it to, so I had already started the investigation with my bank on that one. What a mess! I just thought they were sort of 'lost in the mail'. I cant believe there were people working there taking stuff out of the mail.:sad2:

That is crazy--it is amazing how sick our society has become. Hope they get it all straightened out.

4pounds! Now if I just don't let it go to my head I'll be o.k. I've been good today to...went to the mall and only had a salad. AND drank water instead of diet soda. I have googled splenda after reading all that craziness about aspartame, and it seems like, if I'm understanding it right, that it is an artificial substance and the reason it has no calories is that your body does not recognize it as food. One website said that there was a 3 month study on effects on humans and that only 85% of it was passed through the body. Kinda scary. In the same search, I read that some people don't pass any of it through, which may explain the so called weight gain from diet sodas. Mainly it seemed that they were saying that there just were not enough studies done on this. I'm not giving it to my kids anymore. I think it will be VERY hard for me to stop eating these things alltogether, they are in SO many things I buy. Even my yogurt has it in there. :confused3

those of you who have read up on the aspartame stuff, would you mind providing me links? two of my best friends give their kids diet drinks all the time and i want to send them this info! thanks!

Hey everyone! I just recently found this thread and have decided to join along with everyone else. Last year I lost about 15 pounds but I have gained it all back recently and I hope that this group will be the motivation to whip me back into shape. I ultimately plan on losing about 40-50 pounds and I know I can do it with the support of all of you!

Prayer needed: Ryan is not doing well. He has been in the hospital for a week b/c he started rejecting the new liver---they put him on more meds and thought he was improving. Well they did another biopsy this morning and he is still rejecting. They are putting him on another rejection medicine and they also put in a port because he was blowing all his veins. Another setback is there is a virus that kids can get with transplants--asll has been clear until today--none of his lab work is good. They were soo hoping for good news today. His spirits are still good but he is very tired. Sorry to be long but my heart goes out to my friends. Thanks again for your continued prayers.

welcome! This website has really helped me alot. And I am a "newbie" to. Seven pounds in about a month. Not the best, but I keep gaining motivation here, and good ideas. I'm hoping everyone's good vibes will rub off on me!! :goodvibes Good luck! One of the websites for artificial sweeteners was = www.womentowomen.com/nutritionandweightloss/splenda.asp (Idon't how to put the links.........sorry) just googleing it popped up dozens of hits on the first page....googled aspartame then splenda. Believe me, I'll be thinking twice before I just grab a soda from now on. And no more for the kids.

I am so sorry to hear that. Poor thing. I will keep them all in my prayers for sure. I can only imagine how hard this is for everyone who loves him to go through.

OK, y'all are never going to believe this, but I posted an update to my trip report!!! I must get it done, so I can start a new pre-trippie for the September Peep meet!

I'm so sorry to hear that! He'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry to hear about Ryan.

Majic, 7 lbs in a month is really good. I think 1-2 lbs a week is a good goal to have. I have been averaging about 7-8 lbs a month and as I lose, everything is going where it belongs (i.e. so far, no loose skin or flabbiness in weird places).

Welcome razz!! This is a GREAT thread for motivation, for venting, for overall support.

Sorry about your post office dance! What a mess!

I did cheat tonight, and man that brazilian steakhouse was wonderful. I am feeling much better than I was earlier... thanks everyone for listening! :goodvibes

WELCOME!!! :goodvibes weigh-ins are on fridays, so go weigh yourself right now and write it down somewhere, then compare it next friday and post either how much you've (hopefully) lost, gained or if you've stayed the same in big pretty colors. you don't have to post your weight - just the changes in it! well, actually...you don't HAVE to do anything!!! but you're welcome here and i'm sure you'll love it....lots of support, tips and laughs!

thanks! i'll share this with my two friends that give their kids diet cokes all the time!

Thanks to everyone for the support. I took it all to heart and wrote down everything today. My kindergarten peeps got takeout, and I ate my lunch from home (yumm, peanut butter on Sarah Lee Delightful multigrain, carrots, strawberries, and a pineapple yogurt). DH and I went to Taco Bell to pick up dinner on the way to visit my mom, and we each had 1 bean burrito. I had salad when I got home, because it seems like the salads at TB are much higher in calories than the tacos and burritos. I was actually down 2 lbs. this morning, so that's a great startover point. I drank a lot of water yesterday, and at our inservice yesterday, I filled up on granola, which was hard on my innards, but seemed to help with "clearing the path", if you know what I mean. I have a lot of social stuff going on this weekend, so I am saying right now, I will write everything down. That usually slows down my food consumption quite a bit.
Once I lose each pound, it'd be NICE if it'd STAY away! That's why I don't have a ribbon. It never stays gone. I lose 7, 6 come back. Then I lose 2 and 3 come back.
So , this week I lost 2. Oooops, 2
It'd be ok if it'd even out as the weeks go by. But last friday I basically started over weighing EXACTLY how much I did on day 1. My body clings to THAT number. Which has a 2 in it. Whatever.

Does it make you feel better to know that every lb. lost on this thread is in some way thanks to you? You're the thread-mama.
How are you doing with the soda consumption? I know you are a Pepsi lover. Me, I just buy whatever is diet, non-caffeinated and on sale. I'm going to look at the ingredients for aspartame and avoid it, as soon as I use up what's in my house. In my best Scrooge McDuck voice I say, "I'm not cheap, I'm th-r-r-rifty!" So think about it, Wendy. Is that (soda pop) what's holding us back?

So sorry. Ryan and his family are in my prayers.

Not nearly as serious, but continued prayers are needed for my mom. We moved her into a skilled nursing facility the other day, and it is depressing as
H***. (She will need to be there 2-4 weeks only, thank God) Her new hearing aids, that she has only had for about a month, disappeared the first night she was there. These things cost like $5000, and she really is miserable without them. She does have a nice roommate, which helps a lot. And my sister is "springing" her for 2 hours tomorrow for my grand-niece's birthday party.

Have a fun and skinny weekend, y'all.

GOOD MORNING! :sunny:

It's so nice to wake up at 7 and know that I don't have to get in the shower immediately.

So yesterday I got out some of the written materials that came with my infomercial exercise video. Here is the most important thing I took away from it:

:teacher: Your body burns 2 types of fuel for energy....the food that is on hand (ie in your digestive tract) which is the first and most readily available. The other type of fuel is stored fat. If there is nothing in your digestive tract, your body will revert to burning stored fat. So.....

DON'T EAT ANYTHING FOR AT LEAST 2-3 HOURS BEFORE BEDTIME. If you go to sleep on an empty stomach, you body is burning fat while you sleep. Go to bed on an empty stomach.

DON'T EAT ANYTHING FOR AT LEAST 2-3 HOURS BEFORE YOU EXERCISE. Again your body will burn the stored fat. So the best times to exercise are first thing in the morning or 2-3 hours after a meal. In fact the plan in the materials calls for 20 minutes of cardio first thing in the morning and then a longer workout mid-afternoon. (I'm sorry...I don't exercise the morning. Ahem.)

Heather....Ryan continues to be in my prayers.

Danielle....Thank goodness your mom doesn't have to stay there too long. Is she in a rehab facility? Or is it a nursing home? Will she be able to go home and live independantly after the 2-4 weeks or will she need in home care? Anyway...prayers continuing for you all.

Razz....:welcome: Please post often so we can get to know you.

Everybody! :wave2:

I gotta do this today. :laundy:

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Good Morning!

Heather...Ryan continues to be in my prayers.

Majic...Thanks for the article on Splenda. I have read some of it, as that is the sweetner I use. Need to read the rest.

I have more comments, but need to get my rear in gear. I have a memorial service this morning for a friends mom, then a luncheon afterwards that I am in charge of the kitchen for. I also may be helping a friend paint her kitchen this afternoon, but I'm not sure.

Hopoe everyone has a great day!:hippie:

I'll pray for Ryan. How old is he?:grouphug: I have read a little about him, I think, on previous posts.

Ryan turned 9 on July 2nd and had the liver transplant on July 5th.

I am sooo frustrated--took Joshua for his every 3 month ENT checkup and he had a cold, He has had it since August 7th --which he started daycare August 1. Between that and this heat wave we have had almost everyone has some sort of crud. Well anyway other than the cold he had a clean bill of health. The Dr. cleaned out his nose and Joshua liked it because he could actually breath. Well Friday morning about 1:30 he wakes up and is crying--not like him--I go in there and he has a ever of 101. Give medicine and he goes back to sleep and wakes up with no fever. Last night the fever started back and has not left. Called Dr. they are not going to treat it as an infection but a virus--so we have to wait and let it try to clear up. Needless to say Katie has her big birthday party this afternoon and I am trying to figure out what to do. Oldest son can't go because he is involved in an Eagle Scout ceremony that we didnot find out about until Monday night. Now it looks like Dh will have to stay home with Joshua----We are very family oriented and when she heard that Joshua was sick and one of us might miss the party she was upset. I know this is not her real birthday, but she was looking forward to showing DH all that she has learned on the swim team this week. I guess we will see how he is doing at party time.

Placing my hand upon my heart, upon those requests that have come in - Hear our prayer! He knows our needs before we do, and we just believe in the great physician to heal our hearts, and our bodies, and those we love! Hear our prayers!

Asparatame
Recent studies in Europe show that aspartame use can result in an accumulation of formaldehyde in the brain, which can damage your central nervous system and immune system and cause genetic trauma. The FDA admits this is true, but claims the amount is low enough in most that it shouldn’t raise concern. I think any amount of formaldehyde in your brain is too much.

Aspartame has had the most complaints of any food additive available to the public. It’s been linked with MS, lupus, fibromyalgia and other central nervous disorders. Possible side effects of aspartame include headaches, migraines, panic attacks, dizziness, irritability, nausea, intestinal discomfort, skin rash, and nervousness. Some researchers have linked aspartame with depression and manic episodes. It may also contribute to male infertility.
I read this years ago, and my kids dont drink or eat aspartame w/o seriously considering these side effects!

I know there's another link I had stored downstairs, I'll try and google it too!!

DH had his blood work come back - again his father died of heart plaque, he had his first heart surgery at 43, and died at 62 - (4 different heart surgeries, the last one was heart valve replacement, plaque got into his blood, and eventually we believe that is what killed him) SO we do take the cholestorol serious... and the doctor felt dh should go on that med that helps reduce the choles. DH googled the side effects - - :scared1: (ok and the only one *I* remember :rotfl2: is the loss of sexual functions :rotfl2: ) So dh and I are throwing away the butter, the cream... (*sigh, I just love making the sauces I see on the Food Network, just a tad of cream or butter sure makes things taste good... and now of course y'all can :rotfl2: no wonder my weight goes up and down...)

So back to the UTURN I fell, and I hate the whining I do, because its the "what do you want" What are you doing?" Do they match mentality!! (DD school has revisited that mantra and it now includes "Evaluate" then "Plan")

THE WEATHER HAS CHANGED!! :yay: :dance3: The last of hurricane Dean has left the area - and the Canadian cold front has come over!! :yay:

but honestly, if I cant manage the darn Hot flashes, I'm going to have a breakdown!! I'm hoping adding the calcium, Vit E, Black Cohosh will help - if not I'm going to demand some HRT for a year!! (of course then you add 5 - 10# oh yeah, that was a side effect of dh's cholestorel meds too!!! :rotfl2: )

Melinda this contridicts what I've read and believe...
DON'T EAT ANYTHING FOR AT LEAST 2-3 HOURS BEFORE YOU EXERCISE. Again your body will burn the stored fat. So the best times to exercise are

I've always heard that your body needs fuel to exercise - the RIGHT kind of fuel, a little protein and a little fruit - (I usually do an egg white and 1/2 banana - yes, you must be careful as bananas are loaded with sugars!) I cant find the darn book that explains is it 1 hour before exercise or 1/2 hour after exercising that you need to give your body this fuel!! (and the best proteins are egg whites, fish, chicken - plain, no butter!) I read it to FIDGE, but cant find it!!

Happy Saturday Peeps,

Just wanted to send lots of good thoughts and prayers to those of you that needed them. (and those that might need but didn't really ask ;) ) I don't always post that I'm sending prayers your way but trust me that I always take a pause to say a prayer after I read your posts. :goodvibes

I survived my first week at my internship. And I only had one breakdown (in the privacy of my own home). My supervisor was pretty much nonexistent all week and didn't really give me any feedback on what she saw which I hate. I really need that criticism (or praise) when I'm first starting something. Otherwise how will I know what I should change and what I should keep doing? Next week I'm going to be slammed! School speech screenings in the morning and my regular patients in the afternoon including 4 new patient evals. Welcome to the real world!

So right now I'm killing time before I go meet the boy for coffee (:woohoo: ). We played phone tag thursday and friday so we decided to do something today. But then he got sick. So he said he'd call me this morning and let me know what the deal is. He definitely sounds sick, but I think he's a drama queen about that stuff. Men  . So no dinner and a movie date, but he did say he was up for some coffee  Anyway, we're meeting at Barnes and Noble. We'll see how it goes. For someone who doesn't want anything "serious" we seem to be talking more now than we did before "the talk". I'll post how it went tonight. I know you're all dying to know :rotfl:

Hope everyone is having a great Saturday! :cutie:
