!Hi Peeps - just wanted to check in since I've been away from the DIS and will be for a few more days.
One of my best friends lost her husband to cancer Tues. night. He was diagnosed in April 06, a month before their first baby was due. He fought well, but declined rapidly last week.
Needless to say, it's been a rough few days, but she's hanging in there and I, along with lots of other friends, have been doing whatever we can to help. I'm scheduled for a trip to Buffalo tomorrow AM and I feel awful leaving, but can't cancel. At least I was able to reschedule my return flight to be back in time for the funeral Mon. AM
Sorry to ramble! To be honest, I'm agnostic and feel a little weird asking for prayers, but I'm asking on behalf of my dear friend and her family, who are very religious and will appreciate it enormously.
Love ya'll, and I'll see you next week if I don't get in again till then.
, I lost my Step-Mum to cancer a year ago on Sunday she was only 59. Trouble is I bury my head in the sand and try to make out it hasn't happened. Just give your friend lots of hugs and make sure she know's you're there for her.
Oh, V....I'm so sorry for your friend. Hard to see God's hand in things like this but be assured that prayers are on the way from me. I know it's your birthday tomorrow but this doesn't seem the time to celebrate. Look for your peeps party next week.Needless to say, it's been a rough few days, but she's hanging in there and I, along with lots of other friends, have been doing whatever we can to help. I use the gentle leader! Or my dog does anyway. I have a standard poodle BTW. The difference when we put that thing on her is amazing! Just putting it on makes her the perfect little angel. If we are having company we will put it on her just because it makes her so much calmer. Except I hate the "does she bite b/c she is wearing a muzzle" remarks I get ALL THE TIME. I mean, seriously, her mouth is hanging wide open and you can see her teeth when she is wearing it - but they think its a muzzle (which I believe keeps your mouth completely closed?)
I'm really trying to get her certified as a therapy dog at our local humane society, but my schedule is just so crazy that I haven't found the time. Plus, I'm not quite sure how strict they are. She's good and follows basic commands but the "stay" isn't so hot. She thinks it means walk over or away from me - not stand still. We did do puppy kindergarten at our local community school, but she dropped out. Puppy kindergarten drop out LOL! Actually I hated the instructor. All she had us do was walk in circles and when she practically threw my little Phoebe (who's not all that little) to the ground when teaching her "down", I had had enough. So we went priviate LOL. She learned down in one night without being held down by her neck. The instructor was awesome. It was a small group class but a private dog trainer.
Anyway, good luck with the pup! I'm sure everything will turn out great!
*Shannon
She can eat with it on, so she can open her mouth, but it keeps her calm people! She is sooooo hyper and into everything without it on, and with it on, she is all perfect.
We have a great instructor. That, and the fact that Jasper is very social (beagle trait) are the reasons we are having problems with the down stay. No problems until the instructor comes and stands next to her. Then, she just wants to go say "HI! Aren't I cute? Play with me & love me please!" Good luck with the therapy dog thing! I wish I had time to do that with Jasper when she gets a little older, but I am not counting on it. We are starting agility with her in February. Lynda... 100 OZ of water...are you part mermaid ??? I am in awe ! I struggle to drink 64...seriously...how many times a day do you have to use the "facilities" ? 100 oz is a LOT of water...AMAZING !
Nope, not mermaid. Although I wouldn't mind having a tummy like Ariel's. I drink about 8-10 oz. at breakfast, about 4-5 16.9 oz. bottles at work (some with Crystal Light or Lipton diet tea On The Go added), and about another 20 oz. glass at home with dinner each day. And I have found that I am going to the little girl's room a LOT more at work than what I was before! Eventuallly I believe my body will adjust, and it won't be quite as often. That's what happened last time I drank water regularly, but it hasn't happened yet this time.
Oh, I have the gentle leader too and a choke chain. You name it, I probably have it. The gentle leader works the best as well, but it drove me nuts that she tried to get that piece of her nose. Actually, the dog down the street has tried to get it off of her, like the groundhog did to Lady in Lady and the Tramp. It was funny. I think I may use it for little Trixie because she is pulling, but she also has Kennel Cough (that the vet says she got from the vaccination, but I'm not so sure
), so I don't want anything around her neck. I have a harness, but it doesn't keep her from pulling.
Ok, that visual image has me![]()
! Try the "watch me" command while sitting. Hold a treat in front of your nose, and get the dog to "watch" you. That really helped mine before they learned "stay". Sorry you had such a bad instructor.
Mine works at the local pet store, and she is wonderful! I recommend her to everyone I know that needs dog training. She is young, but so smart when it comes to dogs.

Lynda....is DH cooperating with the diet? Has he lost weight too? Just being nosey....![]()
I hate the sleeplessness and the waking up every hour grumpyman cover your eyes now...that mother nature brings , I was just cranky from 1am on...I eat 3 bowls of special k, and had 8 Lorna dunes of the night...I am actually hungover from food! Crazy right??
Lyndayou are doing so well with your accountibilty for the food I can't wait to hear how you will run off with the lead this week you are doing great!!
I have been having it for nearly a week now! I just wish AF would arrive already! I feel your pain. Put a sleeping puppy in your kitchen who is evil when she wakes up, and you won't want to go in there for a snack!
Works for me!
Just got my first Hungry girl e-mail it's great except I don't like Avocado, Salmon, Almonds or dark chocolate. Hoping for one I like tomorrow.![]()
I need to check out that website!Good morning everyone!
Things are looking up! DH is feeling much much much better and was up walking around just fine last night. DD4 went to the dr and has a bladder infection, but at least I got antibiotics and she should be over her symptoms by Saturday. DD6's cough is much better. DDog finally stopped barfing! It's going to be a good day, I can feel it!!!
Hope everyone has a skinny day!
Lynda you are on a wonderful mission - thanks for your strength!!
I am very excited about this change in my life! I have wanted it for so long. And things just came together, and it seems possible now. Thanks, in great part, to this thread and all of you great people!
Although at times, it is hard to believe I am actually doing this and that it is going to work. It is working though! I have to keep telling myself that sometimes. I think that's why I get so nervous before weigh in days. I feel like I have soooo much hope riding on the number on that scale. But it's better than wondering if it's working or not until I go down a size, which will take a little while.
to you too!
