Disappearing Peep Ditches Diet on the DDP! Lots of Pics! - Completed pg. 11!

Called Eiswein in Germany, it is produced from grapes whose juice has been frozen while they are still hanging on the vine (or occasionally nowadays in cold storage). When the frozen grapes are pressed, the resulting juice has a very high concentration of sugar; accordingly, the wines tend to be very sweet, and, one hopes, also carry concentrated aromas and flavors. These wines are a treasured rarity in Germany. We know of only a handful of American Ice Wines that have been produced naturally on the vine, although Bonny Doon Vineyards has been experimenting with Ice Wine from artificially frozen grapes?in refrigerators.

You'll find some great Ice Wines in Germany, as well as Muscat, and Rieslings - with Rieslings I have a hard time figuring out how to tell the sweet Rieslings from the semi sweet!!

*Know too that the ice wines come in a much smaller bottle -

Thanks for bringing the Ice Wine up Stacey - looky what I found!! > >

If you are interested in icewines, and are a reader of Bon Appetit, you can look forward to Natalie MacLean's article on the subject in the December 2006 issue.

I was really taken with this wine, from the moment I popped the cork until the last drops were gone. The 2004 Jackson-Triggs Vidal Proprietors' Reserve was a beautiful, deep golden color. It has a silky, syrupy texture. The aromas are a little bit of heaven: honeysuckle, peaches, nectarines, and pineapple. I detected a slightly metallic smell at first, but this quickly dissipated. This wine was just as interesting and lively on the palate as it was in its aromas, with lemon peel, apple, brown sugar, and tropical fruits. It was sweet, yet refreshing and crisp, too. I drank it on its own, and it really did qualify as a dessert in a glass--not so much a wine to have with food, perhaps, as a wine to have instead of food. I can imagine a gleaming tray of icewine being served at a festive dinner in lieu of dessert.

There is no doubt that an icewine is sweet--but a well made icewine like this one is held in balance with an equally impressive acidity. It was hard to stop after just one glass of this, whereas with most dessert wines one glass is all it takes for me. Some icewines cost more than $100 for a bottle, and at $21.99 the strong varietal characteristics of this Jackson-Triggs icewine lead me to say this is a wine with excellent QPR.

Might have to try 1 glass when I go in May. I don't like bitter wines. Was never a wine person before until December--had a very sweet wine and liked it a lot--don't know the name.

I can only imagine how it must feel - I often challenge students (I am a permanant substitue teacher) to name the Canadian Provinces - and always get the map out... I know many students cant name the 50 states, let alone their capitals! Geography has gotten out of "vogue" much like teaching cursive writing... sad...

Perhaps this will help people understand where I am coming from:

I think it's just frustrating because Canadians are expected to know plenty about the US but when it is the other way around, Americans are often dismissive like, "It's not important for me to know about Canada. Who cares?" Well we care. In the age of Google, it's not that hard to not be ignorant about your next door neighbours and global partners. [End Rant]

Sandy, you are a wealth of information! I think I will save up for a glass of this at Le Cellier next time! It sounds wonderful!

I guess I understand where you are coming from. But like I said, this was not a slant against Canada at all. I stink at geography - not just Canadian geography, any geography. And I would not google this unless I needed the information, just like I would not google the capitals of all the states. I work full time, go to grad school, and I have 2 kids. I just don't have time to try to learn US or world geography. There is probably a whole lot of information about the US that I do not know, but I still love America. And if it makes you feel any better, I know very little about our other neighbors in South America. I have a friend from Venezuala and my ignorance about her country does not offend her, she enjoys sharing all the great aspects of her country with me. And I likewise enjoy teaching her about America. But like I said, if I go to Canada (and I really want to one day) I will google all kinds of information about Canada.

Again, my comments were not directed toward you but were meant to be general. In any case, I'll let it be and apologize once more as I know this has very little to do with your dining review.

Once again, you are a wealth of information! I learn so much from you. I don't drink either, but this might be worth checking out!

Sorry I'm late, Stacey!

But I read all of it.
1) Food Porn is the funniest thing EVER! (cue the cheesy 70's porn music, like I'D KNOW???) :rolleyes1

2) I can see all the pictures. No x's

3) I LOVE this!!!! You are the bestest Dining Reporter! Did you tell the restaurant CM's you have a readership of 116,000 as you jotted down mystery stuff in a notebook and took pictures of the food? :cool2: My "reporter" technique really works!

4.) I like the cheese soup....

5.) Hey! I got a geography lesson too! This Dining Report is VERY informative.
We actually DID learn Canadian geography in school. But, I've only been to the beautiful Beuchart (sp???) Gardens on Victoria Island for my honeymoon. SO breathtaking! So I've never gotten a chance to WOW people with my luke-warm geographical knowledge (DONT use me for a phone-a-friend  )

6.) WHY do people feed turkey to the BIRDS? (thanks for the shout out!!!!)

Reminds me of Lilo And Stitch when Lilo is late for dance because all she had was tuna. Out of peanut butter and you can't feed tuna to fish :rotfl:

God bless the educational system as al I know is where is Disney, the gorocery store and the bank, school and post office according to my family thats all I need to know!!!

Could you imagine if I had to type out the states or any coutnries?? google would never turn up my typos!!!

Isn't Sandy smart? If I ever need a partner in Trivia Pursuit - I claim Sandy!!! All of us non-drinkers need to get a glass of this wine and split it! ;)

Thanks UM for reading my report - you are my trip report writing idol,While you are here, can I have your autograph!

I love to read food porn - my guilty pleasure! I took notes at Boma, just like you said to (you have to or I would never remember what was on my plate!) But I was very incognito. One time the waitress came over and saw me snapping pics and jotting notes and she just kind of raised her eyebrows. Of course my family thinks I am certifiable! :rotfl2:

I do not dislike the cheese soup... I just liked shrimp better. :) (the cheese soup was just a little strong to me)

So you know all the Canadian provinces! I am so impressed. I am with Fidge - I could not name all the states in under an hour!!!:rotfl:

DS did feed the birds some of his chicken strips before I got there. I explained why this is wrong and he looked at me and said "Sharks eat other fish." So I just had to lay down the Mommy rule of "no feeding bird to the birds - because UM said so!"

Medicinal purposes? Like, these kids are driving me nutz and I need a glass of wine? or I have had a rough day, I think my nose is stuffed up....Where is the bottle of Nyquil? :goodvibes

Yes, with your typos you would probably end up at foreign porn sites!!!!:rotfl:

Yummy Yummy Yummy!!!!! Although I could only see about 20% of the pictures, most of them of your lovely family. But my literary food porn addiction is appeased due to your great decriptions, now if only there was a way to appease my visual needs, :rotfl2: .

Oh man how am I EVER going to wait 6 months!!!!

P.S. Is it bad that I am "almost" looking more forward to my WDW trip than the new baby. Hey a baby is a blob for the first few months and deprives me of sleep, lol lol.

I am so sorry you can't see the pics. I really don't get that. They are all from the same file, all went through photobucket. I would ask tech support why you can't see them.

I felt kind of guilty for looking forward to our trip, mainly because of the dining! :rolleyes1

When is your baby due? Will the baby be going to Disney too?

Thanks for reading.

You are welcome!

You know I just looked at the review again and now I am seeing mostly x's instead of pics! :confused3 What is up with that?

That is SOOO me. Dh and I have been there done that as far as theme parks go, although we will enjoy it with our kids, but I'm ALL about the food.

Baby is coming sometime in Mid June and will be going with us (don't know how I would find someone to watch a 10 week old for 2 weeks  ) plus we will be doing a bit of nursing, so it would be impossible to leave them somewhere. BUT we did ask MIL if she would like to come and she said yes  , so we should have 2 connecting rooms and that will give a little bit more space and we are going for 2 weeks so we can take a very r e l a x e d approach.

But yep, that'll be me there in Sept with a teeny tiny baby :cool1: .

Hey Stacey! Sorry I've missed out on most of the chit chat. But I have enjoyed the pics! :goodvibes

I think traveling with young babies is easier than traveling with toddlers! I hope you have a wonderful trip and an easier rest of your pregnancy!

Hey there friend! I have missed you!

Stacey, I can still see all of your pictures.

It is so weird. Last night on my laptop, I could not see them. Today at work, I can see all of them fine. So I don't know?:confused3 How are you Melissa? I have not talked to you in awhile!

Hi Stacey! Haven't seen you around for a few days... is everything ok?

I've been waiting for you to start a trip report and have finally started mine while I was waiting for yours! ;)

Hope you and the family are well. :goodvibes

Hey Brenda! I will have to go check out your trip report! I really need to start mine too. Last week was a rough week. I was having a lot of back and hip problems, got to where I couldn't hardly walk. They thought I might have a herniated disc. But thankfully my MRI was fine. I have some type of SI joint disorder. So I will see a physical therapist and learn exercises and how to modify how to do certain things. I am much better this week. Thank you for asking. Anyway I spent this week trying to catch up all my stuff at work. Maybe I can start a report tonight or Monday when I am off. Can't wait to read yours!
