Greetings Everyone: OK, I've lined up my next adventure as roving reporter for the DIS Unplugged. Some of you on Facebook already know about this, but I wanted to let everyone here know about it too. I am going down for a short trip in July with my Father. This is going to be his Father's Day present, and I'm going to take him to the Kennedy Space Center for the 40th Anniversary Celebration of Man's First Steps on the Moon.

The event is July 16, 2009, and you can check out the link below for the details.

This is going to be a very special trip for my Dad and I. See Dad worked as an engineer for Rocketdyne (what would become Rockwell International) in California in the late 1960's. His position was to help design the engines for the Saturn V rocket the powered the Apollo mission. It's not an overstatement for me to say it was the highlight of his professional career.

On a personal note, it will be great to be able to spend some 1-on-1 time with my Dad. My Mom passed away September 2007, and he is now on his own. This has been tough for my Dad, and he lives far enough away that I don't get to see him that much. So he's kind of isolated and alone, and has been having a hard time.

Anyhow, I'm very excited for the trip, Dad's very excited for the trip, and I'm thrilled to take you all along with us.

I look forward to reading all about the trip, Dave.

I am so very glad that you are able to do this with your father as well. Very special.

Dave -

This sounds like a great Father - Son opporunity. Everyone's life is a little different. My folks used to live far away and it was tough not seeing them very often.

Have a great time with your Dad. I'm sure you and him will appreciate the time together.

Thanks for taking us with you. I'm looking forward to following along in your adventures; especially at Kennedy Space Center. We haven't visited yet, but plan to in the future.

Sounds like a great trip with Dad, I am looking forward to hearing about the Space Center. I was planning on taking my boys maybe next year, so I'd love to hear what you think, your previous reports have been great. Have a great time. I can understand about your Dad, mine has been going through some tough times lately with some depression issues. He's 70 this year and does not have many hobbies, my mom and dad live about 1 hr away so it's hard to visit as much as we would like.

I'm sure a trip like this is just what the docter ordered.:goodvibes

Have fun.

Already have an update, and I have to post this to once again show the generosity of the people on this board.

aGoofyMom had a Southwest Airline credit that was about to expire, and she's letting me use it for my Dad's flight. aGoofyMom, I can't thank you enough for helping me make this special memory with my Dad. It means so much to me.

Dave, I can't wait to meet your Dad. My daughter and I will be at the event also.

That sounds so cool! I love KSC, but I have not been in eons. It sounds like an awesome oppurtunity to spend time with your dad.

It looks like you have pretty awesome family genes. I mean, your dad was a rocket scientist and you're a neuroscientist. After listening to your girls, they're on a simular path. It sounds like a real life Kim Possible situation. Don't be surprised if your daughters get a strong desire to save the world. :)

You're too kind Ashley. I'd say you're pretty special yourself. Oh, and my daughters LOVE Kim Possible!

I wish this would have worked out...the expiration date foiled the plans...:headache:

Dave- I am so happy that you and your Dad are able to spend sometime together and experience this. I am looking forward to your report! :thumbsup2

That's OK Donna. I really appreciate the generous offer, and all your help in trying to get it to work. It's the thought that counts.

Sounds like you're going to have a really memorable trip! Can't wait to hear all about it! :thumbsup2

Wow that sounds like it will be a great day Dave! I can't wait to read all about it.

P.S. I sent the CD of the Muddy Buddy race to you on Saturday.

I'm so excited that you're going to make this trip and I can't wait to read about it. I'll admit to being of "that certain age" and living and breathing the Apollo missions as a child.

Whoo hooo :cool1:, my roving reporter trip with my Dad got a shout out on the show! :thumbsup2

Too be honest, I'm even more excited that my Dad the rocket scientist got a shout out. I can't wait to do this trip with him, and be able to see these astronauts who are his heroes through his eyes.

One week from today I'll be leaving for my next roving reporter trip to WDW. I'm very excited for this one to take my Dad to Kennedy Space Center.

I have some ideas for things I want to do while I'm down there to gather material for blogs and segments. I want to do some interviews to continue my "Celebrate Great Cast Members" series, and I have some other ideas. My question to you all - are there things you would like to see your Roving Reporter cover?

Hey Mouse (Dave),

What a great trip. That is one place I know my dad would have enjoyed, as he worked at Boeing here in Seattle.

Maybe we can get a professionals opinion (your dad's) on the roving report. I think we would all enjoy listening to him on the "Boards".

See you at the half-marathon in January.

Dave

Yup, that's definitely in the plan Dave. I think it will be great to get Dad's perspective on the trip.
