Any advise on best and cheapest way to get to Universal from Art of Animation resort. We already have our Uni/IOA tickets.

In a Cab looks like a 80 bucks round trip which I will do if it's a real pain any other way.

Anybody used the Mears Shuttle? Looks like $20 round trip per person (not sure on child price) Not keen on pre-booking a pick up time as we have DD6 so we may just want to leave but if this is the cheapest option other than a bus we may just go with it.

Also don't actually mind using the Lynx bus but I've heard it takes about 2 hours??

And we don't want to hire a car even for a couple of days.

btw, sorry I may have asked this, ages ago, but I can't find the original thread.

:thumbsup2

The cheapest way is indeed the Lynx bus, but it will take around two hours each way. There are other alternatives to Mears. There are lots of independent car drivers in Orlando who advertise airport transfers, but will often pick you up from your hotel and take you to a theme park. We did one from Sanford to ASSp which was great and he offered to do Universal Studios for us for $50 return (but that was 2008!) Could you hire a car for a day? There are Alamo pickup points at WDW and I have seen a days hire for around £25 before. Just remember you will need to factor in gas (probably <$10) and parking ($15) but then if you do a transfer you have to factor in a tip.

Personally, I will be getting a car.

Lynx is indeed cheap but is a pain as you have to get the 50 to Sea World, then the 8 to Wet n Wild then there's a 10 minute walk. It'll take around 90 minutes.

Why not take the 50 to Sea World then grab a cab for around $20?

Yes this..:thumbsup2 Its a great option, maybe do it to get there and catch a taxi home at the end of the day as it still takes a bit of time and because you'll also catch the SeaWorld commuters for the 50 bus unless you ask the taxi to drop you off at the stop before SeaWorld.

We normally do the Mears shuttle and that works out great for us as there is just me and DH. If there are a few of you then you might as well go for the taxi option. :)

Sounds like a good option. Where do you catch the 50 from?

at TTC, or at DTD (bus stop is at the West Side, behind Cirque du Soleil)

ETA : you need to take the "50 Downtown Orlando" bus to head for SW, and the "50 Magic Kindgom" if you go from SW to WDW.

Fab, I don't know where TTC is but I know where DTD is. So how early do the buses run from resort to DTD? And will there be taxis waiting at sea world? How much time should I allow from resort to DTD then 50 bus to SW and then taxi to universal?

The TTC is where the Ferry to the MK goes from and also the monorail hub for Epcot, MK and the Resorts.

We normally catch the 50 from DTD Market Place, you just go out of the market place by the toy shop and cross the road to catch it outside the Hilton Hotel.

The buses from your resort don't drop off at DTD Market place first thing so they will drop you at the Pleasure Island stop, you'll have to walk to either of the Lynx stops in that area. The 50 bus doesn't take long to SW and you'll have to walk up to the main gate of SW to catch a taxi OR cross the road to the hotel opposite to where the bus will drop you (the Renaissance Hotel) and catch one from there and it will only take about 15 mins.:)

Thank you that's really helpful :)
