Will be leaving Friday to spend several days in Slidel (sp?) as part of a disaster medical care team. Will let you all know what we see when back...

God bless you and may you be safe.

Our friend who lived in Slidell has lost all as have our friends and all of their family who live in Metairie. Thankfully they are all safe but they just don't know what to do or where to go. I've been very busy trying to figure out how to help and have been doing what I can. My husbands company had offices there and thankfully we've heard from all the employees but one. They've also set up a matching fund program with the red cross.

Donated last night. Did you hear Carnival has been asked if they could loan their ships for floating hotels? No anwer yet.

YEs, I heard this, and also that there was going to be a MAJOR announcement on this today...It would really be a great thing.. :goodvibes

PPPiglet and Moma...I heard that too....wonder what's going to happen...
with that....

Our FD has been asked to send as many two man teams as we can spare.
With the possible call up of our USAR and Haz Mat teams, we are in the process of assembling 6, 2 man teams. They are to take sleeping bags, water and some MRE's...and FEMA will supply the rest. That's half of our guys, if they're all called. Shoot, I'd go if they'd let me...but they won't!!!!

Everyone take care and keep praying...

Thanks for the red cross web site. Donation made as well as continued prayers for all those affected. How life can change in the blink of an eye and increase our awareness for the need for continuous gratitude for our many blessings.

Donated to the American Red Cross, The humane society of the United States, Noahs Wish, and The North Shore Animal League. I care for people and our four legged friends too.

Made my donation - thanks for posting the link - Prayers are with everyone affected by this tragedy -

Donated through my company (which has already donated $2 million) and I'm taking my son & daughter to donate the "donation" portion of their piggy banks. They have piggy banks with 4 slots (spend, save, invest, & donate) so I'll be taking them to the coinstar machine which allows you to donate your coins to the red cross (and other organizations).

My DD is a new student council officer at her high school. They normally must make a certain amount of $$ for the general fund before beginning any charitable fund raisers. That requirement was waived and they will begin collecting for the red cross on Tuesday.

Sending a little bit with all 4 children to donate at their respective schools, but giving the most through DH's work as they also offer a company match.

We also made ours and because of it I'm so proud of my kids! After talking about what happened because of Katrina with my kids last night and the need for donations they decided to try and help. They sat outside all day in the sun holding a lemonade sale for Katrina. My DD13 and the girl across the street stood on the corner for 6 hours holding a sign trying to get as many cars as they could to come by. My DD9 and autistic DD15 (this was so hard for him but he did it!) were so sad for the people hurting that they sat outside and poured drinks and made conversation with all that came by. Because of my wonderful neighbors, kids and strangers my kids will be able to drop off $384.85 at the local Red Cross office tomorrow from this sale alone. It was such a special day watching my kids try to do whatever they could to help people in need.

Great story.... you have every right to be proud. Way to go KIDS!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

This may sound silly but the whole devastation has me so depressed I haven't been able to get on the disboards where there is usually so much happiness.

This was such a wonderful thread to read when I logged on this morning.

Thank You HeelMD.

Our family gave to the Mennonite Relief Society on Wednesday.

May God bless our country as we go through this!
Take care everyone!
Karen

Donated to the Red Cross this AM.

Also, here in Buffalo, a couple of radio stations are filling three 18 wheelers with food, water, and other essentials and as soon as the 18 wheelers are filled, they are being driven down to Louisana. So, I also filled a rubbermaid tote with cases of water and granola bars, etc. and brought it down to the radio station.

It is nice to know that something that was donated today will be helping some one tomorrow.

Donating through DH work. They will match dollar for dollar.

I made a donation to www.noahs-wish.org. Can't forget our four-legged family members who are desperately in need of help.

Just finished donating to the American Red Cross & Feed the Children.

For those of you who are also concerned about the 4-legged victims, you might be interested in this. PETsMart is in the middle of their month long Just a Buck fundraising campaign for PETsMart Charities. I think is are only a few days left to go and they are donating all funds raised since the Hurricane Katrina disaster to relief for animals in the affected areas.

If you shop at PETsMart, please add a donation on to your purchase!
