DIS Fit - New Hopes, Dreams & Goals - Chit Chat Thread

Love that market and the village. When I am looking for a 3 or 4 day getaway in province that is my go to place.

Just wondering your thoughts on this product
New

I use Advil regularly but wondered about the two .......
Hugs Mel

You can take both of those together no problem but personally I would recommend taking them as single ingredient medications and staggering them - acetaminophen and then 2 hours later the Ibuprofen and then 2 hours the acetaminophen again etc. That leaves you less likely to have break thru pain.

So I am just just wondering what products you have seen lately that have blown you away in the inflation dept.
Mine was tonight at Rexall : a brick of cheese that I used to get on sale for $4.29 now at $6.99.
Gum Dental Picks usually $3.49 now $7.69,,,,, I am going to ask my dentist for more freebies and also check the dollar store.
Oh and that Advil/Tylenol was $9.99 for 18 tablets, ,,ah no I'll stick with my regular Advil Rexall brand. (no 36 tablets available ).

I will say I got a great deal on my Avon deodorant /Antiperspirant . I ordered online and got free shipping and it was 50% off too.

Everything has definitely gone up.

Although this past weekend seemed to be a pantry restocking weekend. I had to restock a few items that are not regular items that I use on a daily or regular basis. I was scared going into the stores, as I knew a few of the items I was needing and the prices that they could be.

At superstore - yeast, chocolate chips, a few spices, a new curry spice+bottle ( I usually just purchase the packages and add to the bottle I have and my bottle disappeared) oatmeal, and flour (I only ever use the no-name all purpose flour) I was pleasantly surprised that the prices on those items were relatively the same :woohoo: I also noticed that there was actual packages of spagetti so I grabbed one of those (again no-name) and the pasta sauces were on for a good price, so tossed a few of those in as well. Rice - well...that was not such a great price. I'll have to double check the price at Costco or get the massive packages that I would scan through that I noticed many asian, filipino, and indian families would purchase. That is probably the better quality rice anyway. We just don't eat much rice that we could purchase such a big bag of it.

Costco - Those prices have went up a bit...but the dishwasher pucks were on sale so that was a score! I also like the pink himalian salt and needed a new italian spice mix, as well as brown sugar. And butter is the cheapest there @4.99

I have been enjoying doing more baking again. I have been playing with a sourdough starter. Hence needing the flour, yeast, and brown sugar :rolleyes1 I have found a really good soft bread - more like a brioshe style as it was butter incorporated while kneeding it.

I am also trying to figure out how to maybe make some jams this summer. At 6.00/jar I am hoping I can find some great deals on berries this summer and try my hand at that as well. It will be a few evenings of saskatoon berry picking as there seem to be lots of those bushes around here. And try to make some jam/jelly from those. Anything to help cut down on costs a little bit. I have planted and purchased quite a few tomato plants to make sauces and salsa for the year.

Started Physio Therapy today. All I can say is I slept for 2 hours afterwards.......:tilt:
My Peonies have finally bloomed and are so big they are drooping to the ground ,,,, here are a couple I cut and put into a container.

They don't last a long time but they are a favorite of mine.

Happy Wednesday,

I had no idea ,, I lost my former Avon lady to Covid in Sept ,,nice older lady that lived across the street from my work.
I love the current free shipping. I ordered on Sunday and got it yesterday. UPS.
They did email me when I signed up with the contact info for someone who lives a few blocks away from me.

Pumpkin I'm kind of bulk shopping when I see stuff on sale. My son and I picked up 20 packs of TP, @ $2.99 a pack a few weeks ago.
Strawberry picking just started here,, I have about 12 empty small canning jars ,,I might make some strawberry/ Rhubarb jam and store it away. I wish cherry jam wasn't so hard to make as it is my favorite type.

This is where we sometimes go strawberry picking ,,,ok I spend a lot of time checking out the (Barn Market) country store.:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

Good luck with the tomato plants Hon ,,,nope I refuse to feed the bunnies ,,,LOL.

Off to stretch the body,

I am hoping to get to a strawberry picking place as well. There is one about 1.5 hrs away from here. But with the price of gas...is it worth it?????

We are bulk shoppers too (for the most part) for many of the things we use. But I would really like to try my hand at jam. For some reason, I am LOVING trying new things lately. We will see what happens in the next few weeks.

Edited to add:
I love your peonies. I used to have two bushes in my front flowerbed. They died off quite a few years ago, and I tried to plant new ones, and they didn't grow either. I gave up on that flowerbed and filled it with bark to keep the weeds down.

I hope the physio helps!

Hi all... it was a long, hot summer and it looks like there are still a few warm days to go here but it's cooled off at least in the evenings so I am back to walking after dinner. The dog is happy, he put on a couple pounds since last summer (according to the vet scale). Kiddo and I have a back to back cruise booked for late April next year and there are a couple excursions I'd like to get in better shape for, and lose some weight for. He wants to do a bike/beach one where you do a 10km bike ride (on flat terrain) to the beach and then get time to swim/snorkel and get shuttled back to the ship (so only bike one way). He also wants to do a Seabob one, which I'm not sure about but there is a motor thing that pulls you through the water to snorkel, looks interesting any way! And of course there is one with those inflatables in the ocean where you climb up, not that I'll ever be able to pull myself up onto them, but he will and I can just float around lol.

We had season passes for Calypso waterpark this summer, he went 4 times, and I went twice. I had planned to go again last week but oh the temperature dropped and it was cold so no dice. Oh well, it was a great deal and he had a lot of fun going with friends. He is back at school, grade 8, and although it is only day 2, so far it seems ok. Apparently his class is mixed English & French Immersion, so they have 4 classes together and then the French kids go to a different one for 4 classes and they get part of another class? I don't understand but oh well... it means more of a mix of kids for him and that's probably a good thing. My parents have offered a bribe, they are paying him to attend. I hope it works this year. I have today off then back to work tomorrow, hoping for a promotion to come from a process I applied on, and qualified for. I could use a raise :D (couldn't everyone?).

We are wishing to go back to Disney but I'm trying to be responsible with finances so probably not until 2024. Though who am I kidding, I will probably find a way to go back. Kiddo wants to go to Universal to do the "big coasters" and I am not so keen, I offered to go through the line with him and then chicken out and wait, but he doesn't think that's a good idea. He is far more of a thrill seeker than I am. He also wants to go to the water parks in Florida, so I am thinking of next summer? If we can afford it.

Any way! Wanted to resurrect the thread :) Now that summer is over perhaps people have plans for fall? Besides the walking, I am planning to cook more, especially since kiddo is out of the house for the day at school. I hope I will be able to take some walk breaks when I get back to work, even just a few minutes to move around more during the day.

Loved reading your post Heather. I am in such a weird place right now sometimes I don't know if I am coming or going.
I can say that I like being retired but need more activity for my brain.
So I might just give a bit of supply work a go,,,, lord knows there are so many postings.
I am trying to motivate myself to be more physically active.
So for today I will commit to using my trampoline,,,,,, that is when I get the clothing hanging on it off.
Happy Monday!

Well, it is time for me to get back on the wagon with better eating and back to walking again. The last 6 weeks here in Alberta have been amazingly hot (which I love) but makes it hard to walk in the evenings when it's still 30+ degrees outside - especially when I'm in an air conditioned building all day then head out into out house that doesn't have AC...and then top it off with some lovely hot flash cr@p on top :guilty:

But it is time to get back to business. We are home now. We had a busy August with lots of travelling and our regular routine was turned upside down.

We had a discussion over the weekend about what to do with our expiring WJ companion flights, and have another set coming again, We want to do a trip with our boys so they can do Universal, Disney and KSC. I am excited to do it. Since they are adults, working and living at home (paying some rent) they will be footing some of their portion of the bill. There is no reason they can't pay for their tickets into the parks and their flights. We will take care of the rest. But I am so extremely excited to finally be able to go there with them as it has always been a bucket list item for me - and that they are wanting to travel yet with their Mom and Dad at 20 and 22 yrs old.

@hdrolfe I can relate to being responsible about spending. I think with the amount of travelling we want to do, I might be doing a second job again for the winter to help offset the cost.

@bababear_50 I love your savings idea. I think I'm going to set up a joint vacation/savings account to put x amount in every 2 weeks to save for vacations.

Pumpkin traveling with your kids in their 20's is such fun.
Two of my sons are coming with me in Jan/Feb ,,, we are doing Universal Orlando.
We booked this before getting our new Kitty :cat:so figuring out what to do with her is top on my priority list right now.
Still trying to decide if I want to book an extra week just for myself for Feb.
The sons want to do KSC also,,, me I just want to shop... shop...shop...3 years is a long time away.
By Jan/Feb I believe I will be desperate for a little warmth and sunshine.
An extra stash of cash always comes in handy.

Hugs
Mel

I went with dd when she was 21. We did one day of Disney ( MK ) one day at Universal and then a cruise. We had a good time.

I have a feeling once she hears that we are going with the boys, she will want to tag along as well or her nose will get out of joint. So it might turn into one last family vacation before more grandkids come. We want to take gd when she around 5-6 so another 2-3 yrs. We would want this trip to be more adult based. That might be a bit harsh in other people's eyes...but it was to take the boys. Bringing a little along would change the dynamic of the whole trip.

But I'm going to start the savings account tonight :rolleyes1 I already have a cash stash I have started for this event...so it will have a good start. Hubby might be a little surprised to see it happen!

Well...after 5 weeks I finally got out for a walk last night. It has been 6 weeks since I did 3+ more walks in a week. I checked back on my tracker app. No records were broke for speed  but I did it. Hoping to get out again tonight. We are having amazing weather here and I'm going to take advantage of it while I can.

I also have to go get some new batteries for my scale. I have been scared to step onto it. This morning I just said screw it and went to go on...and the batteries were too low. Maybe that's a sign :rotfl: So over my lunch today, I will find the right size battery. Gotta start somewhere!

Also...I was snooping around the Universal Site yesterday. They do have a promo on right now...buy 2 park days get 2 free! If anyone is planning a trip in the next few months. I seen you can buy tickets for as late as Feb 23 (I think) 2023. Gotta let dh know so we can lock down some dates.
