DIS FIT 2021 New Hopes, Dreams & Goals, Chit Chat Thread

We are doing just this in our household right now. It's not a diet. Our youngest is built like some other family members who have had weight issues. He is a SOLID boy and will always be that way. He is built like his 2 uncles. Our other son, takes more after my family, and with his congenital defect, he will never be a big man. He is a very tall ( 6'3 and 160 lbs) man. He will never be a bulky broad guy. When the older one tries to goof around and push the younger one...the younger ds doesn't move much . He is just a big solid guy.

We are talking and making healthier meal choices, and eating some of those other foods in moderation. Heck...last week the youngest DS made himself a pizza for lunch using our cauliflower crusts, the left over turkey bits in the bag, tossed on a bunch of veggies and spinach!!!! I was impressed with him. I told him how impressed I am with him. Just the little things we have done in the past 3 months, he has lost 25 lbs and is wearing older jeans that were not fitting him in summer.

I wanted to post that I was able to put on a size lrg shirt that has been in my dresser for a couple of years. I had bought it a couple years ago ( when I was about 10lbs heavier than I am now) and it was stretchy enough that I could wear it back then...but now...it fits even better!!! I just wanted to tell someone about this little nugget!!!!:woohoo:
Alright friends ! It’s a new day ! I’m off for a big walk with the kids and I will do another tonight with the dogs after supper . Thank goodness for mild winter weather. It’s easier to get out and be a little active right now .
Hope everyone has a nice day !

I'll refer you to my post in the thread about testing needed before flying into Canada and leave it at that. My only goals, hopes, dreams, heck anything, are to simply get out of bed each day and begin what will be a constant string of deciding to continue to be. No need to worry, as I tell my psychiatrist every week, I'm in no danger of hurting either myself or anyone else, just a real struggle to "be". unless you've been depressed enough that it hurts to do or think about anything, you can't understand what I mean by that statement.
I have difficulty making even the most basic decisions- (hate needing to ask hubby to pick out socks somedays 🤦‍♀️) and that leads to spending so much time looking at the list of shows already in my list on Netflix that I never actually watch anything.

so, my plan for however long lockdown drags on and the time till I can get treatments is the following mantra that my doc and I developed
Recognize
Acknowledge
Accept

Recognize that I'm struggling and I'm not myself right now
Acknowledge that I can't do even basic things with the same ease because I lack the motivation and energy
Accept that this is how life is right now and leave it at that.

You have just described my hubby's experience with bi-polar major depressive. Over 20 years of hell for him so far. He takes his meds, etc, but is always depressed. Many days getting out of bed is a struggle. He is a wonderful person, and funny too. So very sad.

So I just went for my first big walk of the year. Nice and refreshing out there. I even went to investigate the local school yard to see what they were building all summer. It was just a wee garden and play area for the in school daycare but at least I know now. I know, I am the Mrs Kravitz of the neighbourhood. (ps you have to be old to know who this is).

I'm so sorry to know that you walk the same road that mu\y hubby does .. it's brutally hard for us to live this but for those of you who care for us?! OMG, you deserve a special place in heaven. I'm going to shoot you a link to the clinic I was getting my treatments at - this past May would have been 6 years since my first treatment cycle - they're not open right now like i said but you will be able to see just what's involved with the treatments. Not sure where you live BUT if it's within SW Ontario and this is something you're wanting to pursue with him for help I will be going to William Osler Health System --Brampton Civic Hospital, it might be worthwhile having someone in his health care team reach out for a consult. Their first machine was made possible because of a donation from Bell Let's Talk and the 2nd machine was bought by the doctors of the clinic themselves! That's how much they believe in the treatments.

THIS is why I don't hide the fact that I have a mental health disorder, it's only through talking about what we're dealing with that we can find out we're not alone AND get help. Only 15 -20 years ago cancer was talked about in hushed terms, referred to as things like "The Big C", we need to pull off the dark curtains that cover mental illness as well.

Kiddo painted my finger and toe nails the other day. I'm not sure why, he just asked if he could do it, but it sure did make me feel happy to see pretty nails.

Been doing the keto without too many problems but the walking, that's been harder! I've asked kiddo if he will do a circuit with me, alternate a cardio exercise with some other weights/toning for 20 or 30 minutes. He has agreed to give it a try. He is going to use the mini trampoline for his cardio but I'll be doing marching, stepping in place. Since I want to zipline on our next cruise (whenever that may be...) I want to lose some pounds so I'm not worried about fitting the harness or being over whatever limits.

We have an appointment with a new pediatrician in early Feb for him to talk about treating his ADHD, and discussing medication. His family doctor wasn't comfortable doing so. He's also now on waiting lists for psychologist, apparently we may be able to get those appointments by March. Maybe. Hopefully he will still agree to go at that point! We did have one appointment with a group that does short term help, and while it was interesting, it wasn't anything new. Though perhaps it was new to kiddo? He never does believe me when I tell him things! And we learned a few tricks to help him get a better sleep.

Can I just say...your an amazing Momma. I just want to wrap you in a tight hug  and say that your doing a great job! If someone hasn't told you lately...your doing a kick butt job of being a single Momma. We all need someone building us up...instead of tearing each other down.

@hdrolfe, would you mind sharing a few of the sleep tips. I have a 23 yr old who still needs a little help in that area.

It was about light and breathing mostly. How you want to see the sun during the morning and day, and in the evening when it is setting you should look at the sun set for 15 minutes or so. And then not use overhead lights after it gets dark out, use more task lighting that isn't over your head. Then he gave the usual deep breathing exercise to do when you are in bed, deep breath in through the nose for a count of 4, hold for 7, then out through the mouth for 4 and repeat a handful of times. The lighting was interesting because kiddo's room has an overhead light but we also got him some LED lights so he uses those in the evening now instead of the brighter one.

Oh, and he also said watching videos isn't the worst thing but try to choose something "boring" perhaps that you have seen before so your mind can tune out. Or listening to music, and if you watch music videos to maybe turn the phone over so you can hear but not see. Keep in mind this was for kiddo who has ADHD and has a hard time shutting off his brain so not something I can do, but I can't have noise while I'm falling asleep while kiddo likes to have videos on.

Thanks for sharing. I will pass those ideas on to DS I especially like the one about the overhead light, makes sense. I'm with your son about needing noise to fall asleep. I guess it comes from being 3rd in line in my family growing up. The house always had noises going on when it was my bedtime. These days I have some of my best naps while watching a certain channel on tv.

I am trying a new de stressor..................................................
I have put my cell phone in the living room and am leaving it there just likeI used to years ago with this beauty.

Excellent plan Mel ! I’m on self imposed news restrictions. The constant negativity was/is really getting to me . So I get to check if there is anything important 10 minutes a day and that‘s it. I need that right now.
Today it looks like the sun might be peeking out a little. DH and I will take the dogs for a good long walk and soak up some of that sunshine.

Snow shovelling day for me for exercise today. I'm glad to finally have some snow on the ground, It has been very unusual winter so far here in Ottawa. Give me some sunshine and cold air anyday over the cloudy days we have been living with recently.

I avoid the news on weekends, except the weather reports :) Which I'd like to avoid this weekend. While I get we live in Canada and snow is expected, I hate shoveling it! Oh well. I will have kiddo help me out, the plow has gone around once so we have a hill at the bottom to clean up. That'll be my workout for the weekend. At least it isn't super cold out (yet). It's too bad we can't really go sledding with all the restrictions. I am sure people will be out doing that and I don't want to expose us. I can't wait for this to be over.

I made some really yummy keto cheese biscuits and am using them to make an egg breakfast sandwich. So tasty. Not as good as McD's but still very tasty.

And I was browsing some of my usual rental sites and see that one local builder, who has some small terrace homes near us, now has some really nice townhomes for rent. They are well outside the city (in Arnprior for those who may know the area), but since I will be able to WFH it isn't too big of a deal, probably the same distance from my parents, just a different direction. Jackson was excited because they have two master suites, so he gets an ensuite which he really wants. Honestly, I didn't have any kind of ensuite until I was 38 I think? Hopefully this will work out for May, or June if things don't happen as I hope. Either way, moving in spring/summer will be easier than moving in winter. The only thing missing in these homes is stone counters/under mount sink, and the laundry is in the basement. But I can live with that given all the rest, like the vinyl plank floors everywhere, and 3 full bathrooms. The basement is even finished so when kiddo is a bit older and not scared to be in the basement, that will be great. It's also close to a school that goes up to grade 8, so might be a nice change for him. Most schools near us now are K to 6 and then 7 to 12. I am hoping he'll be interested in going to school in the fall if things are more back to normal and he's being treated for the ADHD and anxiety. In any case, if we move and we really hate living out there, we can always look at moving back in a year or two. But I think it will be ok.

Sounds like you guys have a lot more snow that we have in Southern Ontario ( which is none at the moment ). The townhouse sounds really nice. Are you still thinking about it or planning to apply ?

Still thinking at this point. I am due some back pay end of March and will be ready to apply then so keeping an eye on what's available for now, and dreaming :)

We seem to have gotten quite a bit of snow, and we always end up with a hill at the end of the driveway from the plow, we are on a corner and it's the worst, about 5 houses down gets barely anything! The annoying bit this winter is we have mice (or some rodents) in the garage so I'm parking in the driveway (they already chewed wires... $500 fix) and it's harder to shovel around the car.
