Dis Breast Cancer Survivors Part IV - GAGWTA

My goodness everyone is so busy!! Laurie thanks for the pictures, you have beautiful children!! your friends house is lovely and what a treat to stay in such a lovely colorful fun place!! Maryanne....I got here too late, your friends pictures are not showing for me :( maybe they will appear for me tomorrow. Lisa, I pray so hard for you, I am very sad you are not feeling good. Pats mom, it is so hard not to worry isn't it? especially I find at night when I am trying to go to sleep, then it seems like everything is really overwhelming. I am glad to hear Candy is ok, sad she has been having a hard time and I hope she can stop by sometime. We leave on our trip in one month and one week, I am actually having some anxiety about it, thinking I may have bit off more than I can chew this time. I wish my body could keep up with my mind, and that my mind wouldn't run away with ideas.... :confused3

Lisa, so sorry to hear you are having such a hard time.....sending lots of well wishes out to you. I hope you are tolerating this latest round of treatments with minimal problems.

Slg.....great news!

Smiley, I forgot where you are going......was it Las Vegas?

PatsMom, I've heard on the news about various drug shortages....scary to think about.

LMP, sounds like you had a good trip.....and another in the works! We would love to be able to go to the F&W again this year, loved it last year.

Laurie, loved your pictures. Hope you are having a great time on your trip....know it must be hard having your DD move away. Sounds like she is in good hands.

JSK, have a great trip!

We are leaving Friday morning for our Alaska cruise and DL/San Diego trip, won't be back until June 20. I am on information overload right now, all this last minute research has my brain stressed! LOL. But I am excited beyond belief, still can't hardly believe we are really doing it. Also can't believe I haven't even started to pack yet!

Funny (?!?) story......I drive a Ford Escape Hybrid, in a very distinctive and unusual shade of green called lime squeeze. Very lime. Anyway, we have owned it for about 1 1/2 years, and all during that time we have only seen one other like it, out of state. Until the other day. I pulled in to the grocery store and parked next to one just like mine - which is all the more strange, considering we live out in the middle of nowhere in a tiny little town and the next town over (where the grocery store is) isn't a whole lot bigger. So I think cool....and wander around in the grocery store wondering who it belongs to. Skip ahead a few days, I see it again, going the opposite way down the highway. Cool again. Did I mention we live out in the middle of nowhere - as in not much traffic, and it's pretty easy to recognize somebody's car driving by? So I'm wondering if anybody who knows us has seen this other car and thought it was me. Anyway, then it happens again....we are going down the highway, and we see it parked - outside of the local porn and strip club!!!! :scared1::rotfl2:

GAGWTA!!!:goodvibes

Cheryl, too funny! :rotfl2: Have a wonderful, wonderful trip! :goodvibes

Lisa, you are in my thoughts and prayers, girlfriend. :grouphug:

PatsMom, you are a strong lady, hang in there. :grouphug:

slg, happy for your news.

Prayers for Candy and her family.

lmp, would love to read your dining reviews, do you have a link? Baseball has kept us busy but DS is playing well and loving it. We were out of state last weekend and I'm still not completely unpacked yet, uggh. Has your son made his final school choice yet? I didn't know if you (recently) mentioned a public university program?

Snappy, great pics, must have been an awesome time. :goodvibes

Sha, sounds like you're very busy at work. Hope you like it otherwise. :flower3:

jsg, nice to see you. How is OBM? Haven't seen him around much here. :confused3

mimijeanie, it sounds like things are going fairly well for you. :goodvibes

smiley, it is sometimes hard for me to focus on everything on my mind during the daytime as well, and then I lay in bed and it all hits me at once. (Or when I'm driving to work!) I hate that. I generally read or watch TV in bed but it keeps DH awake so it causes sleep problems for me (and him). We'll be renovating our bedroom soon and I have to set up something so that I can do those things without bothering him as much. He bought some headphones for me and those worked out well until they stopped working. Never got around to taking them back to Radio Shack.

Weather is nice here but the pollen is awful. We need a good rain to knock it down. DS has had some difficulty with seasonal allergies and wound up with a sinus infection this week. There have been non-stop medical issues LITERALLY every week since DS was in the hospital in April, between both kids and my mother. Thankfully nothing serious at this point. Mom has had a lot of little things going on and she's been pretty stressed about them at her age (almost 87). We have more appts for her coming up as well. I've felt as if I've had very little time for myself lately, but at the same time I'm thankful for what we have. Just physically exhausted.

slg - :) wonderful news

PatsMom - sorry you have to worry about the drug shortage. One of the ones they use for my testing is in short supply too. I am glad I am not having that test until next year again. My onc. is the 6th largest user in the US.So she never runs out. Would it help if you went to a bigger hosp. etc. One that might have access to what you need? Wishing you all the best.

Lisa - sending you :sunny: thoughts and wishes

minniejeanie - glad to see you. I think I told you I am from central NJ too, Middlesex Cty.

smiley - I know your dd will probably help you on the trip if you need it. Wishing you all the best. I am sure you will have a wonderful time

Cheryl - hope you enjoy your trip too. Your car story was:rotfl2:

Laurie - hope you are enjoying your trip

Elizabeth - pack away and have a great trip? How is your cousin?

Sha - I should text Candy again sometime. Did you decide on a new place for your moms b day meal. How about Citricos or GF cafe. I suppose you could order a cake from the GF bakery too. I am sure whatever you plan it will b e appreciated by your mom.

Linda - ds is leaning towards the comm. college. He went to the orientation. That is overwhelming in itself, uniforms, white only shoes, no mesh, pin, stethscope, watch with second hand, liability ins., background check, titers, physical etc. etc. He also siged up to be a chem tutor at the comm. college. That will only be 5 hours a week. He also had to take a math test for the private college, something they administer themselves. Most everyone fails it they say. and DS passed it on the first try!! Too bad the tuition and board will be over $100K:scared1:. They are only giving him a 1000 scholarship. I think that he said he called and they are resubmittiing his application to review again for financial aid.

Just drove ds22 to work twice. Sigh, Had to go back home because he forgot the keys to the equipment bldg. Ds24 has been home for 2 days with a horrible upper respiratory infection. He went to the clinic today. They told him to get a z pack sat. if he is not better and to stay home from work tomm. I sure dont want to catch this.

Some co. just sent us a letter that they are interested in dh dads and grandmas property in NJ. Yippe. So now we will see what the cousins say. That is a battle in itself. I just want to get rid of this albatross around our necks.

Hey Cheryl! Have a wonderful stress free holiday!! We are driving down the coast stopping just outside of Seatle, then on to Eureka in northern California, then San Francisco, then Carme, then Cambria, then Disneyland, then Las Vegas. staying at some places only 1 night, others 2 nights, and 9 nights in Disneyland. Still don't have the trip home after we leave Vegas confirmed though, there is a garlic festival in Gilroy just outside of San Francisco on the weekend we are coming home and we have always wanted to go there so may add on an extra night for that. We are at just under 3 weeks now though, and it is adding up in cost and time away from home, so not sure if we will do anything extra. Again, have a wonderful trip and your story about your car is :lmao: if your small town is like my small town, you should be hearing rumors when you get home! :rotfl:

OMG!! This has been a great week and I have been on call too! No admissions... I have a resumption of care to do and a recert to put in the computer and tidy up. THIS never happens before I go away for a weekend!!! Will I be this lucky next weekend??? No on call that week. Has been wonderful now that we have a weekend nurse and we don't have to work weekends.

I booked a weekend at the Biltmore for my mom and I. Neither of us have been there. She doesn't know about the trip there.

LMP I have gone and booked the California Grill. Its right there and we won't have to rush. I am hoping to bring in R's BF and his wife as a surprise for R. And then I am going to invite a friend who does art work at Disney for F&W and F&G... Heather French. She is so sweet! And mom loves seeing here. Will see if she can do that when we get closer to October I think. I decided for cake to have that when we do the boat for the fireworks cruise. Also going to see about photo session. Or else see if a friend can come down to do some photos.

Work was really busy Linda... but this week was gentle. I like that! LOL don't get a lot of that. I can breath. Last night I had no paperwork to do! I almost didn't know what to do with myself ;o) almost

Smiley I have a friend in Gilroy and he has told me about the Garlic Festival... so lucky!

Cute site I found on FB.... http://www.facebook.com/pages/No-lumps-thank-you/194430210631386

oh and the tutu project.... http://www.thetutuproject.com/

Wow, you are really covering a lot of miles! Sounds fantastic!! And lots of time at DL - I find the new Carsland to sound soo exciting, wish we were going to be there sometime other than opening week, but oh well. Quick question for you......any favorite DL counter service or snack places? We decided that since we will probably be in a food coma after the cruise that we would just sort of wing it and sample various things as the mood strikes.

Linda, I hope you can find some "me time" soon! Sounds like your family has had its fair share of illness.....glad nothing too serious, but still exhausting all the same.

LMP, good luck with the property....hopefully you'll be rid of it soon.

Sha, sounds like things are going well for you, enjoy all the fun stuff you have coming up.

Finally finished packing....leaving in 6 hours....probably should be getting to sleep!

GAGWTA!!

Smiley, i say add the nights. We had dinner with my Dad and stepmom when we were on the way to Napa last May (they live in Laughlin) and she told me "go and do as much as you can while you still can". Rather prophetic.

Sha, you have some wonderful surprises planned, sounds wonderful.

Cheryldan, funny story. Hope you have a great cruise, and please post a report. We have an Alaskan cruise booked for next year.

Hey Cheryl, you are on your way, but in case you check this, you can very easily "wing it" at DL! even the sit down places have plenty of tables and the waits for one are very very rarely long! One of our favorite places to eat is The Plaza Inn right at the end of Main Street. The chicken dinner is legendary and they have TONS of seating both indoors and out! if you get a table looking over to the castle a little while before parade time, you can watch the parade go by as you eat your dinner! Hungry Bear in Frontierland is a very good counter service, and there is an all you can eat barbecue that is awesome over in big thunder ranch. in California adventure, the Cove bar which is inside Arials Grotto, has really good food, yummy drinks and an amazing view over paradise pier and is never busy because there isn't even a sign anywhere!! it's almost a you have to know about it to go there place. The Lobster nachos are to die for!! over in the Pacific Wharf area, all of the food locations are counter service and the food is realllllly good!! also don't miss the Boudine Bread Factory tour, they give you samples, and when you come out, you can get a bread bowl with clam chowder and eat it outside there, something we always do!!

:goodvibes I do know what you mean! this trip has already gone from a 10 day trip to Disneyland to a 3 week trip of the whole coast! lol... But yes, I am quite certain we are going to add on the extra day and night to stop in Gilroy. We are garlic fiends!! We are lucky that we live close enough (relatively) that our local whole foods style grocery store carries the garlic from Gilroy so we can get it all year round. I brought back 1 big braid from Gilroy last summer, and it went too quickly, this trip I plan on brining back at least 3!! for some reason, my pantry has perfect conditions to keep the garlic perfectly for months :) One thing we can not get here though, is garlic icecream, and yes I know eewwwww, but maybe not? lol...it's a feature at the festival so we have to stop and try that at least!!
Of course we still have to come home and redo about 1/3 of our roof so I can't spend all our money!! :rolleyes1
where will your Alaska Cruise begin from? Seattle or Vancouver?

Smiley, thanks so much- very helpful!
We Had fun in Seattle today, boarding tomorrow at noon.

Ours is Celebrity, out of Vancouver. We booked and Aqua class cabin so we can eat some healthy, and hopefully gluten free, food! Only Aqua class passengers can eat breakfast and dinner in Blu.

I think I need to try some Gilroy garlic! We love it too, always use fresh. Bought one of those really nice presses a couple of years ago, really makes a difference! Now if they would make a machine to peel it for you...

GAGWTA!!!!

I haven't been around in ages. We're planning another trip to WDW--60 days left :)

Things are going well health-wise. My annual mamo is coming up in a few weeks, so it's time to get a little jittery until that's over.

Just curious on everyone else's reaction to this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2933031

That sounds amazing! will you stay over in Vancouver to do some site seeing? I can give you some tips if you like :)
There is something to peel them! I got it at a kitchen specialty store. It's a round tube of some kind of rubbey silicone material, about 4 inches long and about an inch and a half in diameter. you put the clove of garlic in there and roll it with your hand on the counter, lift it up and the peeled clove comes out!! it works a wee bit better if you nip the stem end of the clove off first, but you dont have to. you just rinse it under water to get all the skins out of it. you can do a whole head of garlic in minutes, so cool! I too have a really good press I got about 20 years ago, works like a charm.

Just a quick hello from Ketchikan! It is a beautiful sunny day here. Sun didn't set until 10:30, still twilight at midnight. Having a great time, miss not having Internet and phone ......we are in port now, so it is a chance to reconect.

I am going as well to the world.. Around 75 days for me. woohoo:rotfl2:. I read the lung cancer thread and a few responses as well.
I don't think anyone deserves cancer. As far as smoking and knowing it is bad for you....so is rich foods, sugar, alcohol and drugs. It is all relative.
As someone who has gone through chemo, I sympathize with anyone for any reason who has to deal with the drugs, operations and side effects. My own father died from lung cancer and at the same time my mom was dealing with breast cancer. I actually believe it is all in the genes and there is not a whole heck of alot you can do about it until modern medicine can determine how to fix those genes.
Just my opinion though
