For those that didn’t realize, it’s one week before Halloween. You know what that means….its pumpkin carving time. I’m sure many people will be doing that today or this weekend. It’s a fun activity for some, and some people can be amazingly creative with their pumpkins. I love looking at the jack o lanterns in my subdivision as I take my dog for a walk - they’re very impressive. Jack O Lanterns are generally scary or happy, and I found a little information on that…

Some people will only do scary, some will only do happy and some people mix it up every year. Some people like to carve an image like Mickey Mouse. How about you? Give us your scary or happy answer today…..

Are you carving a pumpkin(s) this year?
If yes….will your pumpkin be scary, happy or an image?
If no…..when you did carve pumpkins, were they scary, happy or an image?
(multiple choice)

For Me……I hate hate hate carving pumpkins. I despise it with a passion. The insides are cold and slimy. Yuck yuck yuck! Back when I used to carve pumpkins with a forced smile with my girls, my pumpkins were always happy. I like looking at scary pumpkins, I’m just not someone that’s going to make one.

This ⬇️ is me carving a pumpkin with that forced smile :lmao:

I like happy. :)

I have jack-o-lanterns that light up that I bought from Walmart years ago. I set them in my windows. So no need to carve pumpkins unless with the grandkids.
I do too, but mine came from another store (I don’t remember where). I put the bulb that flickers like a flame in them. They’re very fun!

They're sooo much easier than doing pumpkins!!! :thumbsup2

I used to carve with the kids. Then we went to the things you stick into the pumpkin to make then look like a character. I think we had Minnie Mouse at one time. DD has Captain America. We've also painted pumpkins.
We don't carve anymore. We don't buy pumpkins at all.
We have some fake ones we sit out, One is an aqua one.
We won't be home this year on Halloween. We are flying and then the next day getting on a cruise ship for a 17 day cruise.

Did it for years we would have a family contest for best design you could go scary or not - frankly I’m happy to not do it anymore such a pain 🤣🤣🤣

My favorite pumpkin that I carved was a pug dog face. We're a pug family, so it was appropriate for us.

I won't carve another pumpkin until I have grandkids.

I tend to paint more than carve...if I do anything. It's just so warm here that a carved pumpkin is a rotting moldy mess in a day or two. It's just not worth the effort. I do everything from happy to spooky. I also really like scenes...like a spooky haunted house with ghosts coming out of the windows, cats on rickety fencing, eyes in the windows, witch flying over the moon, spider webs in the eaves, etc.

Never been that artistic when it comes to carving a pumpkin. They generally end up with a nose, 2 eyes and a few teeth for the mouth. Sometimes what you started to do isn't how it ends up.................LOL.

@slo I am with you on the gross sliminess of the pumpkin carving. Plus, in Florida the pumpkins seem to rot faster than they did when we lived up north. I finally had to buy a ceramic jack o lantern because I just couldn’t deal with it anymore. It’s big enough that I can put a candle (or these days, an LED faux candle) on a saucer and set the jack o lantern over it. It has a happy style face.

We don't carve, we paint our pumpkins. I usually turn the pumpkin on its side and use the stem as a nose and paint a 'Halloween' type creature. My 6 year old godson's pumpkins turn out like abstract art. He starts out making a face, but then he gets bored and slaps the paint on.

When I still lived in Philly I created a witch pumpkin that I was really proud of. I put it out with the other decor on my front step and the next day it was gone.

We would do it when I was a kid, but generally I dislike it. I find the pumpkin guts pretty gross.

Use to carve, usually happy, when the kids were young and then again when the grandkids were young. Have not for maybe 10 years now, and not starting again this year.

Same here. I love having a carved pumpkin but it isn't worth dealing with the guts and mess.

When I have carved pumpkins in the past, I like to try and do film or entertainment based ones. Jack Skellington was one of my faves:

That looks really good! Yeah, I like to admire the work of others', but I am not touoching pumpkin guts.

I am debating what to do this year. The past few years 95% of trick or treaters came by before it was dark out. So the more intricate type carvings can’t be fully appreciated.

I think I tried carving a time or two, it was a mess (literally and artistically.) DW carved some nice ones with the kids and grandkids, but I don't think anyone is interested now. We bought a pumpkin to display on the porch, but it will remain intact. Pretty sure we'd have had happy jack o lanterns, and likely with a Disney theme. :earsboy:
