Welcome, Christine. That's quite a story. I know a young person with appendix cancer which is similar and also pretty rare. It's so good you got to it early. So was the hip anyhow related?

Wanted to wish all friends here a very Merry Christmas. :grouphug:

Laurie, I got an iPhone this summer. Very cool. :goodvibes Welcome to the dSLR world to both you and Merry. I am going to be posting the Winter Scavenger Hunt soon on the Photography Board. Joining in will get you using your cameras. Hope to see you there.

Merry Christmas to all!

We had a wonderful Christmas eve dinner at my moms last night. My mom was feeling great and showed us a little of her head which is starting to get "fuzzy." haha. My dad was great too and got great news that his bladder cancer has NoT recurred.

Thanks so much for just being here over the past year!

Merry Christmas everyone! Hugs and best wishes to you all today.

Laurie.. found you.

I may get my Christmas cards done this weekend... LOL and actually, after the homily last night at my church, I am glad they are late.

A very Merry and Blessed Christmas wish for all you wonderful ladies. You guys are all tops in my book. Good wishes and prayers are with you all.'s

Christine, good wishes and prayers for continued good health.

Maryann, very nice meeting you and hubby at WDW.

Wishing everyone here a most Blessed and Merry Christmas!:)

I had DH do a quick lesson and took some pictures yesterday.

Oh my!

Methinks we created a monster! I just kept clicking. The camera has pretty good automatic settings for a beginner like me and with the cool extra lens he bought it is easy to bring the subject in at the right range.

I about drove everyone crazy. DD20 finally told me to stop because I was becoming annoying.

The oyster patties and merliton with shrimp were both devine, better even than mom's oyster dressing. It is nice to be eating gulf seafood again!

DD20 was very pleased with how our creations came out. It is a bit scary to be tinkering with recipes for Christmas day dinner but it will be easier next time since we won't feel it is beyond our reach. She wrote down the recipe as we cooked. We used ingredients from 5 recipes for the oyster patties and the merliton recipe from my MIL was ingredients only (no quantities or steps included) so it was important to document the way we made it our own.

Glad the MRI results for your daughter looked good, Merry.

I will start watching the photography thread Linda, but I making no promises. So far I have a lot of pictures of the dogs and people opening presents, lol.

After a slow start I am getting into the iphone. My music is loaded, I have the internet and my email set up. My contacts disappeared but are still on my old phone so I will return to my happy little AT&T helper and have him get them back. I also sprang for a home tower to improve our reception at our house. Cell phone reception is a sore point for everyone in this neighborhood. There are not enough towers since we are close to LSU and supposedly more towers can't bbe uilt due to historic buildings or something? Our neighborhood was started in the 1980's so I guess more towers are not going to happen in my lifetime. Now we have our own little microcell tower (maybe 15 inches tall right next to the modem), my happy little AT&T helper told me it has only been available a few months. DH got busy last night and read the instructions and darn if he wasn't able to figure it out, despite confusing steps.

We now have bars on all our phones, in the house!

Christmas miracle?

Thanks for sharing the positive news about your mom and dad, MinnieTink!

Sha, I will try and get over to facebook. Just too busy yet, but I will try.

Good afternoon ladies

Hope you all had a good day esterday

Laurie - looks like you will have fun with all your new tech gadgets. I am way behind the times with stuff for sure. I am glad I can text to the ds as my voice is not good at times.

Linda,Anne and Barbara - dont know if you are getting the same snow we are. Hope not.

One word around here: Blizzard!!, Oh what fun. I think they say 12-18 inches for us. We did manage to go to church today. I wanted some groceries but dh left his wallet home as did all the ds too. Sigh, sigh. Glad we made ds2 stock up on the drinks last night. These boys sur do drink alot.

I am tired from cooking christmas breakfast and dinner.

On TCM right now there is a show on "The Age of Believing: The Art of Disney's Live Action Movies" and it has a lot of information! Really great. Some I know of.. but other info... wow!

This if followed by Witch Mountain and then Escape of Witch Mountain.

Thanks for posting about the show on TCM, Sha. DD22 and I watched it after I saw your post. It was great1

DD22 was initially working on a degree in film, but switched over to English. He continues to be very interested in the film industry. His roommate stayed in film, and has worked on many films. They have some interesting people over to the the little duplex they rent near school.

I have a new Droid...love it. Got a new lens for my camera this week. :cool1:

DD's neuro visit was today. Her MRI looked better than the last one. He wants to see her in a year unless she has trouble. We're celebrating.

It sounds like we've had some good news and not so good around here lately. Congrats on the good news and I'm hoping the not so good news gets much better!

I got my port in this morning -- a power port. It wasn't too bad a surgery, especially when compared to my other ones. Thursday is my oncologist appointment. I can't wait to find out more info.

I hope however everyone celebrates the holidays it went well.

Here's to a healthier and happier 2011!

Marci

Thanks for posting, Linda. Was worried about my northern friends. Hope Ann is doing well too.

MaryAnn, are you snowed in too?

Which lens did you get, Merry? Glad you received good news.

Marci, glad the mediport sugery was not too bad.
Please keep us up to date on your treatment plan.

DD20 is helping me with the new iphone. She is very patient but I get a look once in a while like she can't believe how hard it is for me to convert. She has been playing with her iphone 4 almost nonstop since Thursday except when we were cooking. On the other hand, I have been busy.

Bad news on the work computer front-the IT guy has to reinstall everything, starting with the partition software, then Windows XP, and the software reseller will have to install my accounting software. He is still in Michigan so we can't even start until he returns. I am not even sure when that will be but probably next week.

We are getting hand written paychecks today.

I am going to get my hair highlighted today and who knows it might be time for another massage? Time to get the car serviced too. Maybe I will take a staycation. Wish I could check it all and go down to Orlando!

We have a telephoto and the lens that came with the camera. This is a fixed focal length that DH had on his wish list. It's a 50mm f/1.8.

Went to Miami yesterday for my post-op checkup with the Gyn/Onc. Everything from the surgery is okay. I am starting my next course of chemo this Thursday - not looking forward to this at all, but I know it's necessary. I think it's worse this time because I know exactly what I'm in for the next four months. I also got copies of the surgical notes and the pathology report from my surgery. No wonder I felt like I had a truck driven through me. Four surgeons worked on me for over 5 hours.

The weather here is still way too cold for my liking. I do not live in Florida to wake up to temperatures of 29 degrees!

I hope everyone here has a happy and safe New Year's.:goodvibes

I am hoping that Florida warms up next week when I will be there! Hoping to escape the cold up here in the northeast for a week with my daughter and husband. Hope everyone has a great New Year!

Good afternoon ladies

Sha - I think I would have liked watching that special. Sounds fascinating. One day I would like to go on one of those Behind the Scenes tours at WDW.

Laurie - handwritten checks are better than no check at all

Marci - Glad to hear your surgery went well. Another step forward in the journey. How was your trip?

Lisa - lots of prayers for you with the new chemo and I hope it warms up for you too.

Merry - great news about your dd

Elizabeth - I thought of you when I was eating my Lays potato chips for lunch. They dont seem as salty.

We got 14 1/2 inches of snow. Everything was closed yest for the most part. Ds22 decided to go sledding with his friends and lost his keys in the snow bank. He had to have ds20 bring him the spare. They tried looking for it with a metal detector. Our one neighbors tree fell on the other ones roof. Slight damage and hole in roof.

Dh took me to the surgeon. He said it looked much better from the summer when it looked "nasty":scared1:. Why do these surgeons always use such wirds to describe my body etc:)

We talked. He us going to try a 3 week course of antibiotics again. I told him, sorry I dont want to have a constantly wet belly button etc. He also said he doesnt know what the stabbing pain is, maybe the stitch.

He said some people live with this and dont want surgery. He said if the antibiotic does not work then he will think about surgery. It will be 20 minutes and he will hopefully clean up around the center stitches down into the belly button area. And of course a draining wound for a month. Oh what fun. I feel like this thing will never end, he calls it chronic. sigh, sigh. He lso was jabbing me again today, so I have a nice bandage there again.

Worse, when he was writing the script he says to dh, oh I forgot your wifes name:scared1:. I said thats ok because you are not cutting me up yet. Wow, can these surgeons at least make you feel like a human being??? He loves dh though.

If you all are bored and have nothing to do..then go to the restraunt review board where you can read my whole vacation food review. (no pictures).

Ah MaryAnn, you are a keeper! I had to comment on your comment. It reminded me of a bar DH and I, my friend Cindy from New Orleans and her ex, and another couple used to frequent in the Destin (Florida panhandle beach) area back when we were young and fancy free. It was called the Hogs Breath Saloon (catchy, huh?)

We all bought t-shirts from the joint with the slogan, Hogs breath is better than no breath at all.

Thanks for helping me get things into perspective. I did get some gripes from my cohorts because we did not have direct deposit this pay period. And I will have to "fix" things when I regain my computer, hopefully next Wednesday, in order to have correct W-2's and outside reporting and the like. I will be working a lot of overtime after Wednesday since I lost last week, this week, and most of next. Not good when funds for my employer are tight, and I need to provide reports in order to obtain another installment of funding. My advice is to never consider working for a small non-profit.

I am sorry your surgeon is so condescending. I encountered that when I checked out plastic surgeons and I just moved on until I found an unassuming one who the nurses all liked.

I think nurses know the score, and I am blessed to know some here who are willing to check things out for me.

I will check out your reviews. Sounds like fun.

I am taking off from work until next Wednesday. We went out for a celebratory dinner last night. I shared a five pound plate of boiled crawfish (first of the season for me), crawfish and corn soup, and DH had a shrimp po-boy. It was absolutely divine. DH is working today and tomorrow but I look forward to spending time with DD15 and DD20 (DS22 headed back Monday to New Orleans to look for another part time job).

Lisa, sorry you are facing the chemo. MaryAnn, congrats to your older DS on his new job.
