DS10 has been fascinated with the Olympics. It's the first year he's really gotten to understand and appreciate them. Of course, his reference point is Cool Runnings (Disney movie about the Jamaican Bobsled team which is one of our all-time favorites) :rotfl: so the Opening Ceremonies were especially fun to see.

Cool Runnings/Coach Blitzer said:
They've done everything you've asked of them and they did it with all of you laughing in their faces. It doesnt matter if they come in 1st or 50th, they've earned the right to represent their country, they've earned the right to march into that stadium waving their nations flag. Thats the single greatest honor an athlete could ever have. Thats what the Olympics are about. 16 years ago I forgot that, dont you go and do the same.

Derice, a gold medal is a wonderful thing, but if you're not enough without it, you'll never be enough with it. --Hey Coach...how will I know if Im enough? --When you cross that finish line you'll know.

Speaking of atheletes, My DD12 is in love with Michael Phelps. I think his performance will inspire many swimmers all over the world.

I love the way he couldn't wait to give his family a kiss and a hug after he got his 8th gold.

I need to see that, I just read about it in the paper a few minutes ago.

Even makes me want to locate my goggles and sign up for the rec center again (Bally's doesn't have a pool).

Hey Sha, how is mom?

She is doing well. No recent falls in the last 2 weeks. She fell twice in the same day.

She wants to go to the store when she gets back from church to go and get some things we may need if this storm does anything. Thinking it will just be some mild wind and rain.

Boston sounds so amazing!! I have only visited once, when my parents were in Connecticut so that ws when I was around 20.

So was there some sort of reenactment of the period going on? How fascinating!!

How about a Boston meet, sistas?

Pictures, please!!

Boston Rocks! I went to Emerson College in Boston and loved my four years there. I lived right by the Esplanade and the half shell in back bay. I would so love to go back!:goodvibes

Thank you for the kind words. Hubby says he won't hear of me not staying on in FL so I guess I'm staying until 10/3. I had a good cry last night...I haven't done that in a while and I really needed it. Except this morning I'm all puffy. Believe me, I thought long and hard about leaving the group. I prayed about it and waited to make sure I wasn't doing it on my own accord. Then I got confirmation on it and didn't waste any time. I told them, no long goodbyes...then I would probably never want to leave, and what would be the point in that...

Linda- Thank you! You know when I told you guys about going to the flight 93 memorial last week? Well when we got back to the house, hubby had to go lay down. I think we need to face reality and we need to remove ourselves from it too...and so we have Disney therapy! Though I think I we are taking a break from WDW after this trip. We need to visit hubby's parents in CO next year and the cost of airfare will mean no other trips. Sounds like a lovely time with your dh!

Laurie- You can tell your dd Michael Phelps is our hometown hero! I'm about 5 miles from where he grew up. It's been great seeing someone local accomplish something so incredible! It was awesome watching him, with the kids, make history Sat. night.:cheer2:

Sha- Thank you for sharing about your attacks. It's amazing to me how prevalent it is. I'm sure hubby would love a nice back rub...:goodvibes I hope the storm peters out and becomes a slight breeze over FL...

I received this email this morning and thought it seemed fitting here (maybe another God Wink? It came from my SIL who also sent me the "Tomb of the Unknown Soldier" email - her timing seems impeccible these days! ;) ):

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised
a glass of water and asked, "how heavy is this glass of water? "

Answers called out ranged from 8oz. to 20oz.

The lecturer replied,

"The absolute weight doesn't matter.

It depends on how long you try to hold it.

If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem.

If I hold it for an hour,

I'll have an ache in my right arm.

If I hold it for a day,

you'll have to call an ambulance.

In each case, it's the same weight,

but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes. "

He continued,

"And that's the way it is with stress management.

If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later,

as the burden becomes increasingly heavy,

we won't be able to carry on. "

"As with the glass of water,

you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again.

When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden.

So, before you return home tonight,

put the burden of work down.

Don't carry it home. You can pick it up tomorrow.

Whatever burdens you're carrying now,

let them down for a moment if you can.

Relax; pick them up later after you've rested.

Life is short. Enjoy it! "

And then he shared some ways of dealing with the burdens of life:

* Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the
statue.

* Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat
them.

* Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the
middle of it.

* Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by
their Maker.

* If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was
probably worth it.

* It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a
warning to others.

* Never buy a car you can't push.

* Never put both feet in your mouth at the same ti me, because then
you won't have a leg to stand on.

* Nobody cares if you can't dance well. Just get up and dance.

* Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.

* The second mouse gets the cheese. :rotfl2:

* When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.

* Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live. :)

* You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the
world to one person.

* Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once

* We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty
and some are dull, Some have weird names , and all are different
colors, but they all have to live in the same box.

* A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Have an awesome day and know that someone has thought about you today.
. . I did.

Wow! Thanks Linda that was an awesome Godwink!
As for me, I took him at his word...
Psalm 55:22
Cast your cares on the LORD
and he will sustain you;
he will never let the righteous fall.

Linda - thanks for that quote. How true! I've often found that it's the little things that cause me the most stress, probably because I just keep them running thru my mind constantly. The big stuff is easier to say "ok, this is the problem, this is what steps I'll take to deal with it."

Just wanted to check in and let you guys know that I survived taking DS to college on Saturday. I didn't cry as much as I thought I would, just a few tears. I guess I got it all out of my system with my mini-breakdown on Thurs when I found out my oncologist was laid off and I'd never see her again!:)

Being a mom, I'd love to hear from DS to see how he's doing. But being a guy, he hasn't called. I texted him to see if he wanted me to pick up one of those "sphere" chairs that Target has on sale this week, and he replied to that, but that's it. We took DS up early since he's joining the college marching band; his roommate isn't in band, so he won't arrive until Thurs. DH and I will be going up again on Thurs. with a few things - I'm such a terrible mom - DS is going to a Christian college and I forgot to pack his Bible!:headache: Saw it sitting there in his room when we got home.

Thank you all for the hand-holding last week. You guys are the best! GAGWTA! I'll still be reading to see how you're all doing; take care!

Amy- I'm glad it went better than expected. Yep, he sounds like a normal guy!

Why are all of my appliances breaking??? Now the used vacuum cleaner my parents gave us when our other one went up recently just smoked.
Oh yeah, and my checking account is a mess. I'm still sorting through it.
Laurie where are you??? I'm sure am no accountant!:worship: BTW- Check your car rental, National is down for the end of Sept...I used the online blog coupon (no actual coupon needed) that gives $35 off weekly rentals ND2119071Q with Emerald members code 5007125 and got mine down to $131.27.

And if anyone is looking for a good book to read I just finished Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen, a terrific Southern writer.:thumbsup2

Looks like a tropical storm will blow by our area tomorrow morning. Kids started school today and will most likely have a day off tomorrow!

Kids are off here tomorrow and also started today... not that I have any ;)
Be safe down there. We will get it on early Wed morning per Orlando news.

I think I had a Godwink from a client's cat today... and last week too, but even more so today. The owner said she has NEVER seen her cat act like he does with me.

Anyways.... be safe everyone!!

GAGWTA!

We are home and trying to get sorted out. I am off tomorrow but they are coming to replace my kitchen counters. (I didn't want them replaced, but the property insisted. Drawback of renting. ) DH has to work so I will get to clear the counters by myself and then put it all back. Great.

I haven't even scratched the surface of the laundry. I have only managed to empty 2 carry-on bags, which leaves 1 carry on, 4 big bags, and a duffle. :scared:

Mom is doing OK. She had her 3rd A/C infusion on Thursday, so just one more to go! She said her stomach feels "blah" but not really nauseated. She is also having a lot of fatigue. Her oncologist's son (age 22) died last week so he is out for an undetermined amount of time. She has a young guy handling her case now. I guess that doesn't really matter because her treatment plan is already in place. But she likes her oncologist.

Hope you are all well! Those in the path of the tropical storm be careful!

Linda- I am sure DH will be on the Photo boards to share some pics soon. He really enjoyed using the cameras on our trip! :)

Loved that stress management post. Linda. I think I may have seen one or two of the truisms in the latter part but the analogy about holding the glass of water and stress I know I have not read before. Wonderful Godwink.

The bible citation about casting cares on the Lord. . . priceless. Speaking of priceless, thanks Laura for the tip about National rates dropping. I rebooked and saved almost $40.

Stay safe down there in Florida, Sha and Maureen. This is much too early for storms.:scared:

JSK, can't tell you how much I loved your trip report. I am sorry it is ending, but not half as sorry as I bet you are. You are excellent at planning, observing and documenting.

I am pooped. I am back in from Shreveport (4 hours north) where we had a grand opening for our new demonstration center. Luckily, I was able to leave early and drive home with my cousin Darlene who did the photo shoot for the opening. I used the excuse that I have to finish getting DD18 and DD20 ready for college. I am quickly running out of time. DH reported to me while I was out of town that Mamere's house will be ready tomorrow. I guess I'll believe it when I see it with my own eyes. I am taking DS20 there and help him get everything cleaned up and ready to go.

My cousin and I stopped off to eat at a great Cajun restaurant in Lafayette on the way back. We had some amazing appetizer with shrimp, crabmeat and crawfish and a salad chock full of shrimp, after a cup of crawfish bisque. We brought home enough for us each to eat another meal.

Mom has to go back in for a diagostic mammogram on Thursday. When she called to schedule it today, they said they found an area of calcifications. I did not have the heart to tell her that was how my story all started back in 2004. I don't think she remembered. Her diagnostic is at 2 pm, keep us in your thoughts that day please. Darlene and I are going to take her to lunch before, Darlene's idea, and then I'll take her to the breast center.

Prayers for mom! (am still waking up, sorry not to write a lot more)
oh... the storms.. LOL if you consider that 4 years ago this time, we got hit with 3 in a row.. its not so early! As long as it stays away when I am at WDW :thumbsup2

Hi Laurie"

Please know that I will be thinking of your Mom. This is always so scary!

Your lunch with your cousin sounds delicious! In fact, every time you write about food, I want to visit New Orleans!!

Have a good day and don't work too hard. Thank you so much for your pm!

I remember those storms, but I had forgotten they all came relatively early in the season.

One of the fiercest storms came on my birthday in September, Betsy, I think it was 1964 and we were actually living here in Baton Rouge. No electricity for days but we were very popular since we had a Coleman stove, and we had neighborhood "cook everything in the freezer" nights.

Thanks for the prayers for mom. I know it is unlikely that this will be anything more than a simple diagnostic double check. Mom is a worrier but she is staying pretty cool. She is more like to have problems falling at the gym where she works out regularly.

I believe Camille was also around that time frame but I might be misremembering the dates, that was 69. I remember alot of storms.

Note to self: get some batteries and can foods.

Glad to hear that chemo is over after one more!!

I hope the change in docs doesn't stress your mother too much. Is she handling going back to work ok, especially with the fatigue?

Well, one more of the A/C, then on to the 12 weekly infusions of Taxol. Not sure if she gets a break in there or not.

She has only worked 5 or 6 days so far. She went back to work on the 12th, missed the 14th because of chemo. I talked to her Sunday night after our flight got in but I haven't talked to her since.

Hopefully her oncologist will be back in a few weeks. Of course the young guy might have better focus, so maybe it's OK if he sticks around. I can't imagine losing DS - I am sad for her regular oncologist to have to go through that. :sad2:

GAGWTA!! :goodvibes

Guess everybody has been busy! Found us way back on page 6. I need to get caught up with everybody......been very crazy around our house lately (all in a good way). For now, just wanted to pop in and say hello, and will catch up soon. :wave2:

Hey Cheryl, glad you checked in.

Mom is going to need a biopsy. After the diagnostic mammogram, she was able to meet with her gyn (who is mine as well). That doc is steering her towards the excisional one. I saw the mammogram report, the suspicious area of calcifications which just showed up is deep in the left breast, it was rated as 4A, which is low suspicion.

Tuesday Mom is scheduled to see the same surgeon who did my sister's excisional back in 2004.

I guess we go from there. LOng day today facing impending college departure for DS and DD and wrapping my brain about mom having this scare.

She has lost about 10 pounds lately and has been under stress with dealing with my brother down in Costa Rica. She looks fragile to me.

My sister is really involved with mom's situation too so that is very helpful.

I'll keep y'all in the loop.

GAGWTA!!!
