Hey folks! It's finally here. We're driving down from Nashville Monday. I haven't driven in before. I know we catch the turnpike from I-75. Can anybody talk me into All-Star Sports from I-75? I'd appreciate any help. Also, where's the nearest Wal-Mart?

Take 75 to the FL tollway,
Get off on 429 -- its a newer tollway and the traffic is nil along that road - also look to your left as you are on 429 and you will see many of the Disney icons.
Take that right into WDW...there are signs as to the exit but you truly can't miss it.
That road winds you along the back of AK and the service area of Coronado Springs. You will come to a stop light and turn right and All Stars is just up the road.

Very easy.

You'll catch the FL Turnpike just south of Ocala (on I-75). I agree with the Tollway (429) - it's also noted as the Apopka Vineland Exit off of the FL turnpike. The toll on the FL turnpike is $2.25 or $2.50 about mid-way on the turnpike. The toll on 429 is maybe $1.00? Get off on Western Way exit, you'll go under 429 toward WDW. The road ends right near Coronado Springs, so you'll turn right where you hit the end of Western Way. The All Star will be ahead, past Blizzard Beach and the McDonalds.

And watch out for Orange County police - they love to increase the coffers in Orange County. We saw them sitting just past the Western Way exit off 429 last time we were there. They can and do ticket WDW guests who drive in excess of the speed limit. Even on WDW property.

If you can wait to get gas until you hit the WDW property, the Hess stations have the cheapest fuel in the area. There is one near the MK, one near DTD and one near the Boardwalk. Do not under any circumstance hit any of the gas stations just off the property except for HESS. I saw $4.50 a gallon in June at the Chevron station near the Crossroads and I-4. And we got Hess for $3.79 a gallon. The one gas station on the FL turnpike right when you get on isn't too bad, just a bit higher than Hess.

I second (third?) using Highway 429. It is a huge time-saver! It's so quick and almost no traffic and only about $1 toll. We took it for the first time last Sept and I was practically screaming, "LOOK! There's the Contemporary! There's Spaceship Earth! There's the Castle!" And my husband is going, "HEY! What exit are we taking?!!" I was too excited to figure it out! It's definitely the way to go!

When my family and I drive to WDW from the Turnpike we always took it to Interstate 4 Westbound and from there drove into WDW.

We did that once before 429 was open and only because we were going to hit the International Drive outlets first. It was fine for that but 429 does bring you onto property quicker and with much less traffic.

Prior to 429 we did the 27 to 192 long stop and go heavy traffic thing.

Slightly OT, but there are GPS units you can buy now for less than $100.00 (GARMIN Nuvi 200) that make a great investment. I just bought mine about 2 weeks ago and it's awesome. I will be using it for the first time next month on a small vacation trip to Miami where we've never visited and should get some good use out of it. Just something i thought i'd mention as giving directions for visitors not accustomed to the area sometimes may get a bit overwhelming.

Here's the unit: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...i+200&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1172880157518

Just thought i'd pass this savings to my DIS family.:thumbsup2 :grouphug:

Thanks for the coupon! I am a Best Buy rewards member an have been looking for a deal on a navigation system. We are going to WDW in September and will use the toll road to the Western Way route. Every guidebook and discussion forum that I read have said the same thing. They were building these roads on our prior trips. Now we can use them.

Your welcome. Anything for my DIS family.:goodvibes In addition, there is a free upgrade when you purchase this unit (or any other Garmin unit) that is for the 2009 map update. Once you register the unit, you will be provided with the free upgrade.

We've stayed in daytona and rode over for a day trip before and we definetley do not want to have to get on I-4. That traffic is horrible. We'll be coming down 75 also. The friday before labor day. Dh wants to leave at like 2 in the morning so we get through Atlanta before rush hours.

That is a really good idea. If you think Orlando traffic is bad, the northern part of Atlanta during rush hour is murder. We live just south of Atlanta and try to avoid the interstates at all costs in the morning. And we don't have nearly the traffic that comes down out of Marietta. By the way, you may want to check out www.georgia-navigator.com This is the official state transportation website and can be quite helpful in avoiding construction/traffic problems throughout the state.

We have a Tom Tom XL-S. We used it on our trip in June. It would have passed right by 429 and made us go I-4 (which I avoid at all costs). But it learned on the way home and took us via Western Way.

Heh - we live NORTH of Atlanta and we try and avoid the northern part of Atlanta in the morning!

To the OP - you do NOT want to come through downtown Atlanta at all. Take I285 around it. There is a huge construction project going on downtown and traffic will be a mess.

And the cost of the tolls is $2.50 on the Turnpike and then $1 on 429. You might have to wake up the toll taker on 429. There really is not a lot of traffic on there.

429 is VERY GOOD ADVICE!

I used this very route to get to WDW, and it cuts quite a bit of time and traffic out of the trip. Here are the directions:

From the Florida Turnpike, take the exit for 429 South. This is a "split," with the left part continuing toward I-4 and the right exiting to 429. This part of 429 is also known as the "Daniel Webster Western Beltway" or just the "Western Beltway." Although it's called the "Western Beltway" it actually runs north and south on the west side of Orlando.

Continue traveling south on 429 several miles to Exit 8, "Disney World/Hartzog Road," which is also called "Western Way" once on Disney property. (NOTE: The exit just before it is #11, "Seidel Rd.")

After exiting 429, turn left onto Hartzog Rd/Western Way. Go a few miles until Western Way ends at the light at Buena Vista Drive, right next to Coronado Springs Resort. Do not speed here. It's known to have many radar guns along the way.

NOTE: 429 is a toll road. Have correct change ready. Recently, the toll was $1.00 but that may change as more exits open.

TIP: Do not confuse the Western Beltway with Western Way! They are two different roads that intersect each other. Remember that the Western Beltway runs north and south.

Thank all of you for these directions I am glad the other person asked I will be coming that way as well, as soon as I have ribbon in my printer I will print these out. I have a ?? I hope some of you can answer for me.

We will be staying at the Hampton Inn address 8150 Parkway Lake Buena Vista this is just outside WDW by the Olive Garden I remember the OG because we ate here one night off property in 06 but I do not remember the Hampton can I still use these directions for the 429 will I be anywhere I need to be. My sister and her family stayed here about 4 years ago and she said it is right outside WDW but what is the best way to get there if anyone knows please post or you can IM me.
I know yall mentioned avoid I-4 so does this mean I will have to take I-4 I am :confused3 and if we are in the dark getting there we will be double :confused3
Thanks for the help :yay:

PS MAP QUEST has these directions is this a good way or can I do anything better.
merge I-4 W exit 259 toward Tampa
merge FL 535 N via exit 68 toward Lake buena vista/winter garden
turn slight right onto parkway

Try using MapQuest....I just put in from Nashville to Pop Century Resort and it gave me the directions that I would have given to you. (I drive from Birmingham to WDW several times a year...last there in May....and the directions from I-75 to Pop are the ones that I used and it worked out great)

Definitely take the new 429 and definitely watch for the police. :thumbsup2

If coming from Nashville, i would seriously consider avoiding Atlanta and going to Birmingham, Montgomery, Dothan and then to I-10 to I-75.

That adds several hours to the trip. We went that way on our first trip both down and back and it took about 12 hours. Now, we take 280/520 to Albany 82/520, to Tifton to catch 75 and down and now it only take 6 hours or less. I do agree with avoiding Atlanta, but come Birmingham to Columbus, GA and over.

If anyone can help with Hampton directions please post I tried posting else where but no one seemed to know or wanted to Post and several of you seem to know way more than myself so I wanted to get an experts opinion not just mapquest.

Thanks Shannon:dance3:
