Direct Add On Now 25 pt Min on all Resorts!

I added this on the other thread, but this is very tempting for me at CCV as my contract is a tad short for my usual trips there now that we’re doing more 1BRs:

25pt add on, with an August UY and now in July you get all your 2024 points…

I’ve been hunting for a 50pts CCV but they’re always stripped and priced around $150.

Yeah it’s still cheaper in theory with resale, but once you account for a credit card SUB, things look pretty good.
When you talk about credit card sign up bonuses, are you already putting all of your every day spend towards a SUB and getting an additional card on top of that for the DVC contract? If you are earning 2-4% on regular spending that could have instead been used to earn the same SUB as you are using for the contract, the “savings” on the contract is a bit deceiving.

Yes. I play this churning game all the time so I consider I’m “losing” some I was already going to spend on another card. But when you open a card with a high SUB, like a business Amex gold, I get like 15% back during the period I’m building that spend, so even if I say it’s only 10%, it’s much more than what I get with other cards.

Fair enough. My point is if you put *any* other spend towards a non sign up bonus, you’re not saving as much as the simple math of ex: $5000 spend = $1000 in rewards / savings on a contract leads you to believe. It may make it easier to talk yourself into buying more DVC points though.

We’ve opened about 14 cards in the last 12 months so I feel I’d be scraping the bottom of the barrel to find additional cards to extract 15ish% off a DVC contract.

For the average person out there reading this and then opening a credit card to buy the contract then using their Citi double cash back the rest of the week I think their deceiving themselves on the contract savings.

I don’t think most of us are average that are on this particular thread, but I agree the City double cash that only earns 2% (no idea what the bonus is) is not ideal in this situation

You're right about that. But I don't think it's needed to overcomplicate this.If they're getting $1000 back that they wouldn't have received otherwise, it's fine if they want to consider all of those savings as DVC.

I'm also running out of great SUBs 😂

I only get new cards for sign up bonuses when I have one big ticket item I know I need to purchase, especially now that banks have tightened ropes a bit on new cards and subs. For everyday spend I don't do that for new cards, I prefer to keep my new card slots open and use the best credit card for the category of the everyday items I am buying ie groceries, dining. I don't often have purchases that are thousands of dollars at once. So for me the savings is not deceiving.

I'd put groceries on my Strata Premier for 3x... not the DC! JK, jk, jk :rotfl:

In all seriousness though I have to be careful if I know there is a chance I may return something or want dispute power when hitting a sign up bonus on a card.

CSR was always my DVC deposit card since 3x was so simple and I could always do my new cards later. RIP CSR categories 😥

100% I did do some regular everyday spend when I needed to hit my 20k on my Gold and it was stressful making sure everything counted (venmo, GC, charity doesnt) and if I did any returns.

Returns can be tough. I haven’t had to test it (that I recall) but I’ve read several times that Chase does not claw back a SUB or punish in any other way if you were to return something and drop back below the MSR. I definitely would be conservative and spend some extra for cushion on an Amex.

Re: CSR - Has this actually gone into effect yet? I had it in my head that existing cardholders had until October to see changes?

Any idea why Disney went back to 25 points needed for an add on?
I think disney allowing 25 point add ons is helping with each resort for a different reason:
Cfw-needs all the help it can get.
Riv-help to sell so lsl opens with it sold before.
Ccv-owners want extra small points to upgrade room sizes
Vdh-owners may want an extra night worth

Personally, i think it is a smart move to move some points for quick cash toward their goals.

I plan to take advantage of it at ccv!
I have been asking for a 25 point at ccv for over a year now.
