I'm going on a trip this winter with a friend for sort of a girls' getaway. We're staying at the Boardwalk. Tomorrow morning is ADR day and I keep going back and forth on what to do for our last meal of the trip.

I had thought about Flying Fish, Yachtsman, Brown Derby, or Il Mulino because they're close to our hotel but I've seen sort of mixed reviews. I've also vaguely thought about California Grill because everyone talks about how amazing it is. But, I'm planning on aiming to do Ohana earlier in the week and *trying* to time it with fireworks, so the firework thing might be less of a draw but maybe not if the above is near impossible to swing. So, if we can swing that is the California Grill worth the extra effort or would one of these other restaurants be a better bet given our location? Our would Bluezoo be a better bet? So many choices that all sound great!

I've never eaten at any of these places so I'm basically going off of months of watching Youtube reviews. lol. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I can only give advice on Yachtsman versus Cali Grill as the others I haven’t been to or at least not recently. We usually do both on our trips, but if I had to chose one I’d go with Cali Grill.

We love Yachtsman, but we usually stay at Beach Club so it’s our traditional “relaxing at the resort” evening when we eat there. Cali Grill is a better all around meal I feel. More variety and it just seems more special.

I’ve heard great things about the Swan and Dolphin hotels, but we’re usally on the dining plan so haven’t been.

I enjoy Brown Derby for an in park option, but I wouldn’t count it in the same league as the others for food or ambiance.

We just had a spectacular evening at Cali Grill. We had a 7:00pm reservation, and originally planned on popping into the shops downstairs then coming back for fireworks. Well, we were celebrating our 25th anniversary, and we had such a wonderful waiter. She let us take our time, spaced out our meal so that we were able to stay put and enjoy the fireworks right from our table. The food was sublime. The service was perfect. The ambience was lovely. We ended the evening with a complimentary champagne toast.

What's important to you? The kind of food, ie steak, seafood, Italian, etc? Service and quality? Ambiance?

Out of those, FF and the Swan & Dolphin resorts have typically given us the hest quality and service. CG, with it's view, is an experience. Yachtsman was lacking for us in ambiance, but the steak is exceeded only by Shula's. Haven't been to Brown Derby in forever, so couldn't say.

I would say quality mainly and then maybe ambiance then service. I mainly just like good food. The genre's are all things we won't have had all week and I'm a fairly adventurous eater (which none of this qualifies as. haha...but I like all kinds of food). I do lean a tad towards seafood just because I live in the midwest so good seafood is harder to come by here. But I also don't eat a ton of steak outside of special occasions. But, I do have better access to quality steak where I live.

If you lean toward seafood and you are going to see the fireworks after O'hana, I don't think there is any need to go all the way over to Cali Grill. The view at Cali Grill is spectacular, but the food is really hit or miss, IMHO. bluezoo is excellent and you can have a leisurely evening instead of going all the way over to the MK area.

Of the 4 you mention I would unquestionably do Flying Fish. IMO its one of the best restaurants on property and the restaurant is simply gorgeous. I'm a huge seafood fan though so that will always win out. Yachtsman is very good too, just depends on if you're feeling steak or seafood more. We're staying at Boardwalk/Beach Club on our next trip and I'm sure we will be eating at both.

For us HBD isn't even in the same league food wise as other restaurants so I wouldn't consider it. We've only done Il Mulino once and it was good, but we have tons of great Italian restaurants at home so its not really on our radar.

Blue zoo has spectacular desserts. If you just want to be close to your hotel flying fish. We never miss California grill. It is wonderful. My choice would be California grill!
