Dinner first night at WDW

We always eat at the Trail's End Buffeteria. We're usually tired the first day from travelling, so we don't want to waste an expensive meal. The Trails End has good food, reasonable prices, and a minimal wait. :)

Chef Mickey's! We get to ride the monorail, eat an early dinner, get in the mood with the characters, and then to bed to rest up for the next day! It's our family tradition now.

Do you need a PS for Trail's End? I was thinking of doing that for dinner and the campfire after for our arrival day--don't want to waste a day on our Park Hopper for only a few hours at MK and my kids will really want to go there first thing. I thought that might tide them over 'til morning

I'm curious to see the replies this thread gets.

Here's my plan... tell me what you think:

In March, I'm taking a friend of mine to WDW. She's never been (she just turned 50, I'm 40 and it's a platonic relationship - we're more like brother and sister than anything). And...she hasn't been out of the NYC area in 13 years!

So, I booked a one-bedroom at the Boardwalk Villas. We are due to arrive around 1:30 or 2:00 that afternoon and I was thinking of booking dinner around 6:00 PM at The Flying Fish.

My plan was that we would have a nice relaxing dinner, then take a leisurely stroll around the Boardwalk and (if I time it just right) be on the bridge near the Swan and the Dolphin just in time for the fireworks.

Your thoughts?

Truthfully most of our past first day arrivals I am always way too tired to venture very far from where we are staying. We usually choose one of our resort's restaurants and then walk around and check out our "home" for the week.

If we arrive early enough in the day and have time to settle in and take a quick nap, then the MK is a must for us along with one of its restaurants. CRT, CP, Tony's are all good choices we have tried!

The first night we arrive in WDW, we will be going to the California Grill. This will be our first experience there, and unfortunately I booked too late to get a seating for the fireworks.
So as a treat, we are going on a fireworks cruise before dinner.
Should be a great way to start our vacation! :D

Everything being equal, I favor the California Grill. Good food, great view--perfect for getting in a Disney frame of mind!!

I just booked a reservation for this Saturday night at O'Hana's. I made it for 6:50 and the fireworks are at 7:30. The fireworks can be seen from the restaurant. The lights are dimmed and the music is piped in from MK.

:D

Thanks everyone for such great feedback. I too was thinking of Ohanas to see the fireworks etc.!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

We too are doing Ohanna's our first night on our next trip. We plan to arrive by noon on our first day this year. Most times we are much latter and we enjoy room service for dinner. Even just a pizza, as we are too tired for much else. It's then early to bed and an EE start at MK the next AM.

We always hit Cal. Grill.
Agree with Uncleromulous...............very good food, great view.
The bartenders are great.
Gotta love those fireworks!

Super way to end the day after making the long trip to WDW.

Spirit Feather, you do not need a PS to eat at Trail's End. The longest we have ever waited is 20 minutes. Enjoy! :)

We're doing Ohana's this Saturday night for our first night dinner! Can't wait! Woohoo!

We like to eat at a restaurant at one of the monorail resorts (O'Hana, Chef Mickey's or 1900 Park Faire). This way we get a great meal and ride the monorail and walk through some of the other resorts. It's a fun way to start the trip and we don't waste a day, but still get to see some of the World.
