These reviews are from our trip at the end of May, but we figured better late than never!

Cast:
Me: 19 year old Vegetarian
Mom: 49 year old who usually lives on chicken ceasar salad

Dinner at Wolfgang Puck's Cafe
This was our first night meal and it set the tone for the great food we would be eating for the rest of the trip. DM had the spinach salad with chicken. It included blue cheese, apples and carmalized pecans. She said it was out of this world, and compared every salad to it. I had the pumpkin ravioli mezzaluna. It was also amazing, and both DM and I were impressed with the portion sizes. For dessert got the Key Lime pie which was to die for. DM, who is crazy about creme brulee, obviously went for the sampler. It included chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and butterscotch creme brulee and was topped with cookies. This was actually a let down for DM who said that she has had better elsewhere. She wouldn't get it again. Otherwise, we had a great meal and we definitely plan on returning.

Breakfast at Main Street Bakery
We have to do this every time we are in Disney. We both had the french toast loaf, which we love. It is one of DM's favorite things. I also had a frozen mocha which was very tasty...in addition to being the perfect consistancy. A must-do in the Magic Kingdom.

Cinderella's Royal Table Lunch
This was before the lunch changed, but I think the menu is similar to the dinner menu, so it is still relevant. DM had the chop salad which she didn't really care for, especially after the Wolfgang Puck's Salad. I had the grilled portobella mushrooms and roasted asparagus which came with some other veggies and quinoa falafel. It was a simple yet scrumptious dish. For dessert, DM had Walt's apple bread custard, which she loved. I didn't fare as well. I ordered the slipper dessert, which I honestly didn't care for. The angel food cake pillow it comes on was tasteless and although the fruit it came with was fresh, the flavors didn't really seem to go together. It was a disappointment, and I wouldn't get it again. Despite the lack of flavor in the food, the appeal of the meal was our table. We were seated right next to the window which looks out the back of the castle. The ambiance alone made it a great meal.

Dinner at Columbia Harbour House
We shared the garden galley salad with no chicken and the lighthouse sandwich with hummus and broccoli slaw. Neither of us were crazy about the sandwich and we both thought the salad was okay. We usually love the Columbia Harbour House so it was kind of a let down, especially because the upstairs, one of our favorite spots in all the world, was closed off. I think it is better as a lunch spot, which is probably when we will eat there next time.

Breakfast at the POFQ food court
In an attempt to make use out of our mugs we headed to our hotel food court for breakfast. Mom had a side of eggs and I had an order of beignets. Mom really liked her eggs and I thought the beignets were okay. Not as good as the real New Orleans version, but a different kind of breakfast food.

Lunch at Earl of Sandwich
This is one of those places that would probably be more exciting with more people because the menu is so diverse but DM and I were pretty boring eaters. DM had a grilled chicken ceasar salad (It had to happen eventually) which she thought was very good, although still not as good as Wolfgang Puck's. I had the caprese which I really enjoyed. It was grilled, which I had not expected, and the heat of the bread balanced nicely with the fresh tomatoes and mozzarella. I also had the Earl's Grey lemonade, which I didn't like, but to be fair I am not an iced tea person. This was a lovely quick meal.

Dinner at Jiko
This was amazing! DM had been there before but I hadn't so everything was new and fresh for me. We began with the Taste of Africa and the olive flatbread. I don't like olives, but I loved this. The Taste of Africa was also good, but mom felt it was too carb-y. It was good, but DM says she wouldn't order it again. For her main meal, Mom had the Monkfish. She never had it before and had no idea what to expect. The waitress told her it was a poor man's lobster so she went forth and got it. She loved the fish itself in addition to the sauce it came in. I had the Peas Grains and Veggies which had seared tofu in it. I ordered it because it was the only entree I could eat, but boy was I pleasantly surprised. This was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten...I was crazy about it. I didn't think the meal could get any better but it did. For dessert I had the Flourless Chocolate Mocha Cake which was insanely good. It reminded me of a rainbow cookie, which is one of my favorite things. And the fact that is was topped with peanut butter ice cream just made it spectacular. DM had the Pistachio Creme Brulee. She had this before, but loved it just as much the second time around. Jiko was simply amazing with only one downside...we left feeling as if we were going to explode. The things one has to do for good food.

Breakfast at the ABC Commissary
We have eaten here before for lunch and usually hated it. Mom had a side of eggs that she really didn't like. I had the parfait meal, which was a parfait and a muffin. I liked this, and it was a nice light meal on what was to be a long day of eating.

Mama Melrose's Lunch
This was probably our least favorite meal of the trip. We both got the Eggplant Napoleon and we each felt the same way about it. The portion size was small and it tasted like something they defrosted. The Coffee Tartufo for dessert redeemed the meal a little, but it was relatively simple and hence nothing incredibly special. We wouldn't do this again.

Dinner at the Brown Derby
If any meal could compete with Jiko this would be it. We did the Fantasmic dinner package. In an attempt to get the most for her money DM got the crab cake. Although it is not something she normally would have ordered, she thought it was really good. I got the salad which had these spicy pecans that were out of this world. I would go back for those nuts alone. For the main meal, DM had the pistachio and mint crusted rack of lamb that came with spaghetti squash. She thought it was outstanding and declared it her favorite main meal of the trip, slightly edging out the monkfish. I had the Thai Noodle Bowl which tasted like someone had designed it just for me. The coconut-crusted tofu alone made the dish. For dessert I had the grapefruit cake which is so light and wonderful. Mom had the Macadamia nut praline cheesecake which was good but she expressed that it in no way compared to the amazing Jiko creme brulee. However the whole meal became one of her favorites, as it did mine.

Breakfast at Kona Cafe
We were excited about this meal because we know that it is one of the places in Disney to get a real cup of coffee. Our waiter convinced us to get a blend instead of the pressed pot of coffee because of grounds that can get into the cup. DM had the pineapple macadamia nut pancakes. In general she is not a pancake fan, but she loved these in addition to the ham it came with. I ordered the Tonga toast, which they let me get with a side of fruit instead of meat. I was really excited about this after all of the raves I had heard. Although it was good it made me incredibly ill. It was too much for my stomach. I would never get it again, although I would go back to Kona.

Grand Floridian Tea
We were thinking of opting out of this because I still wasn't feeling great after Kona, but we figured nothing is better for a stomach than tea. Mom had the Buckingham Palace and I had the Sally Lunn. Mom had the black currant tea and I had the hot cinnamon spice. We loved our tea as well as the scone, finger sandwiches, jelly tart and Sally Lunn bread. When it came time to order our last part, the waitress came and explained the choices; strawberries and cream, trifle or pastries. Mom got the strawberries but when I went to order the trifle the waitress told me I didn't get a choice with mine, but I could just switch with my mother...she "didn't care." I was positive that I did get a choice and after checking the menu later I confirmed it. However the waitress' attitude was really off-putting and ruined the meal a little bit for me. I would recommend it if you haven't done it, but I don't think we would do it again.

Dinner at Artist Point
Mom had the four course chef's selection. There was a salad that I ate which was nothing special. Mom then had the portabella mushroom soup which she says was good but not rave-worthy. For her main meal DM had the Grilled Beef Tenderloin which she thought was good in a "nothing special" sort of way. I had the Potato chive pot-stickers. This dish was also okay; I think the highlight was the greens that came with the pot-stickers. For desert DM had the Coffee two ways. She liked the creme brulee better than the bread pudding that she thought was like a muffin. I thought it looked like something I would like more. I had the berry cobbler which I thought was good, but I didn't get the hype. After all we had heard about Artist Point, I think this was a bit of a disappointment.

Fountainview Cafe breakfast
We each had a chocolate croissant which we didn't care for. DM called it the "biggest disappointment of the trip". I had cappuccino smoothie which didn't compare to the one at the Main Street bakery.

Lunch at the Tangerine Cafe
We went here mainly for DM, who loves the food here. She had the Chicken Shawarma platter that came with hummus, tabouleh and a tangerine couscouse salad. I had the veggie platter which I didn't care for that much. (I'm not a big tabouleh fan). However this is a great spot for a quick meal at epcot.

Dinner at Chef de France
DM had the French Dinner which was the Onon Soup, chicken and Creme brulee. She felt that it was a rushed meal without any atmosphere. While she though the soup was good, the chicken was "eh" and the creme brulee was "adequate". I had the macaroni and cheese which was really good, although not the type of dish I would ever usually have. I had profiterolls for desert which came in a hidden mickey shape. Although my review of the food was more favorable than DM's, I also thought the atmosphere was terrible. This is a meal we probably wouldn't do again.

That was our trip! Obviously we were crazy about Jiko and the Brown Derby and we loved old favorites like breakfast at the Main Street Bakery. It was absolutely one scrumptious trip!

Thanks for such a great review, sounds like you two had a terrific trip! I was just wondering why you thought the atmosphere at Les Chefs de France was bad. I have never been there, but have ADRs for our upcoming trip. Would like to hear your opinion, thanks!! :flower:

Thank you for the reviews. I always enjoy reading the food descriptions of the various places. Sounds like you had a great trip.

Thank you for your reviews. I am particularly encouraged by your Brown Derby review. We have the Fantasmic package scheduled for the first night and I was hedging on this, considering heading back to one of our favorites, Portobello Yacht Club. I agree with you regarding the tonga toast. We would share it at the Tangaroa Terrace before it had a name other than "banana stuffed french toast". It is deep fried and is tolerated best in small amounts.

I too would like to know why Chef De France's atmosphere was bad. DH and I were thinking of going here our adult night out??

Your review was awesome by the way - thanks!!

The OP's review concurred with mine years ago. I felt as if I were eating expensive french food at a restaurant not much different from Friendly's. We haven't dined there since.

Fantastic reviews, I really enjoyed reading them! :flower: I'm definately going to have to try Jikos sometime. The Peas, Grains and Veggies sounds delicious and so does the chocolate mocha cake :)

Enjoyed reading your reviews ~ Thanx for posting.

Chef's de France is not meant to represent an expensive French restaurant. It's a very good recreation of a high class French cafe, serving the same type of simply cooked food that they do. If you have been to these types of places in France you will appreciate how authentic and well done it is.

One thing I will say about the atmosphere is that it's not somewhere for a long relaxing meal, so to me it's a better place for lunch than dinner. French cafe's are usually very lively, and the service is always very fast.

I'd say that the restaurants in France are probably the most authentic when it comes to food, decor and atmosphere of all the countries represented.

For a taste of what a proper fine dining French restaurant is like try the upstairs restaurant, Bistro de Paris. It's also a much better place for dinner.

Enjoyed the reviews. Jiko and Brown Derby are two of my favorite spots!!
Understand about the "rushed" feeling at Chefs. Most Epcot restaurants seem in the habit of doing that--.
About the Fantasmic Package--how far in "advance" of the show did you eat at the Derby?? Did it leave enough time to eat an orderly meal w/o having to gobble everything down just to make the show? That's what happened to us last time--.

thanks for the reviews. i'm with your mom -- i could make a meal out of just couscous and tabouleh!! gonna have to try a frozen mocha fromt he main st. bakery!!
