Dining plan?

We are planning our first trip to Disneyland and I'm curious about the dining plan. We are staying at a Disneyland resort (still trying to decide between Disneyland Resort & Grand Cal) --anyways, does the dining plan work the same there as it does at WDW? I was reading about it and was a little confused about the vouchers -for example, does a $10.00 voucher just go towards a meal and you pay the rest out of pocket? I guess I'm wondering what a 4 day meal plan covers (1 table service, 1 counter service & 1 snack or what)? Thanks for any help!!

It does not work the same. You pay for dollar-amount vouchers that you use as cash, but you can't get change back so most here don't recommend it since you don't save any money.

I've just been reading about it. That's really disappointing. I would like to pre-pay for all of our meals. Do all the restaurants accept Disney gift cards? Or I suppose I could get Visa gift cards. Thanks for your reply.

Personally I would go with the Disney Gift Cards and Not the Visa...in my experience you need to always know the value on the Visa gift card. This is something I don't like to hassle with.

Not to mention when you buy Visa gift cards there is an additional activation fee. Disney gift cards are a good option, IMO.

If it's a Disney Restaraunt it will take a Disney GC. If it's in DTD like Rain Forest Cafe or Ralph Brennans they won't if they aren't Disney. Also a few locations don't take cards at all, just a few like carts that appear at night only or the people selling balloons.

As far as the Dining Plan, most people will say you are going to loose money. Here is a post from someone that got every cent worth. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=40974724&postcount=420
