Can you add the dining package ( pay for package, not free dining) if you booked a room with an AP rate?

I plan on getting an AP for an upcoming trip and I would need to buy 1 child's hopper ticket plus a room for 5 nights. Is the dining plan only when you book a package with an adults ticket or can it be added to any room only?

Nope. When you book a room with AP rate, you can't change it to a package. If you do, you lose all your discounts.

Yes, the dining plan is only for package, no it can't be added on to any room only.

The nature of the package is that you will pay rack rate for the room. They can't add a package to a discounted room rate.

If you want to get APs, I would consider looking into the DDE (Disney Dining Experience) which is $50 to purchase, valid for 1 year, and gives you 20% discount on table service meals and alcoholic beverages. It also gives you a discount on PI admission, IIRC.

If you want the dining plan, all people in the room must have the same tickets. That is what makes it a package. They may eventually provide something for ap holders to have the dining added to their room only reservation, but now you can't do that. Did you know that the way you get ap room rates has changed? Be carefull of purchasing your ap for room rates. It is fine if you are going to be in the parks more than 10 days, but don't buy it just for possible room rate discounts. jmho.

Oogieboogi, I thought you get the discounted admission to PI with the AP, no the DDE?
