Ok I am new to the dining plan so I have a few questions...please help! :) We have a friend who is a cast member who usually gets us 40% off but now I'm wondering if free dining might benefit us more. My questions are:

1. Can I use a table service credit at quick dining? We have a very active toddler so sitting down isn't the best option for us every day.

2. The very active toddler I talked about doesn't eat much so he just shares with us. Can we forego getting him a meal and still have his credits to use for other meals that aren't included. The way I understand it is you get a sitdown, table service and a snack so we would need one more meal.

3. Is free dining for all people booked in the room (5 of us) or is it just for 4 people? My youngest is 5 so we do need to buy a ticket for him.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!

Only if you're on the DxDDP which doesn't differentiate between table service and counter service. They just call them meal credits and they can be used at either. If you do the regular DDP, then it differentiates between TS and CS

I think - usually - that's fine so long as it's not at a buffet. If you order off of the menu, it's my understanding that most restaurants will work with you. But remember that those leftover credits would only be good on a child's meal; not for another adult meal.

The dining plan - free or not - is for each registered person on your reservation. So, if you have 5 people on your reservation, then all 5 of you do/get the dining plan. If you're at a Dx Villa, for instance, and there are 8 of you in a 2BR villa, then all of you are on the dining plan if one of you are on the dining plan. Not such a big deal for free dining, but it really comes into play when you're paying for dining and maybe not everyone wants to be on the dining plan. No-can-do...from what I gather, everyone on the reservation has to be on the dining plan, or none of them can be on the dining plan. All or nothing.

The deadline to book free dining has passed already.

They actually just extended it thru Sept 2011.

I got the QSDP (quick service dining plan) because my DS2 does not do well in sit down places. It is two quick service meals, plus two snacks per night of stay plus a refillable mug. This will work out much better for us. I still booked two table service character buffet breakfasts. I just didn't want to be tied down to reservations this time.

When we had the dining plan in May we were able to trade a TS for a QS a couple of times. Obviously, not the best use of a credit. Check the menus on allears.net and add up what your family would pay paying out of pocket.

Good luck.

CathieArms mentioned you can't do this, but we actually did do that a couple of times 2 years ago... maybe they have changed the rules on that so you can't anymore. Also, if you do this you really lose the "value of DDP. If you go with Free DDP then you have to pay rack rate on hotel, so it may be better to just pay OOP for food and get better price for room

Has been handled well by PP's...

Anytime you do DDP, it includes every person (besides infants who are free) and includes every day of your ressie... works same way for free DDP as for paying DDP
Thank you!!!!!!!!!
Hope you have a magical trip :wizard:

Good to know thanks

I wonder if they would let us do the quick service dining plan even if staying in a moderate resort. That would work out better for us too but then again maybe the 40% would be better. We are doing Hoop Dee Doo and Crystal Palace but that's probably it for sit downs. Decisions, decisions!

Thank you all for helping me!

I just wanted to add that a snack can be a meal too. For example, huge cinnamon buns or muffins at the bakeries. Ham and cheese croissant at Boulangerie Patiesserie. I have never had to pay for anything OOP with the dining plan. Usually I have credits left over.
