Dining plan questions

Has anyone staying at a time share considered booking a few nights at a value resort just to get the dining plan?? Disney is offering free dining as you all know. We are going in September and considered booking a room for the free dining. How does that dining plan work? Is it free for the whole family of 4?? Please help me figure this out. Can you use the free dining at character meals?

The window for booking the free dining package has come and gone. Better luck next year, if they offer it again.

I thought it was only free if you booked before July 1 or so? We have a timeshare off property and booked 3 nights at Beach Club since that was minimum. Plus we have AAA as well but to get free dining you had to pay rack rates. We were having such a good time we asked to extend stay but they said you could but we couldnt add on DDP and we had to book it before July 1?

Even without that I tried to add at least another day with AAA discount and they werent booking at least at Beach Club that rate. Seemed to me they were pretty booked up just with DDP.
