Is it really OK to order a double cheeseburger and ask for an extra bun? Is this done all the time? Just curious!

I've heard people say they do it all the time, but they charge close to a dollar for the extra bun. I'd probably just cut the double cheeseburger in half and forget about the extra bread.

We have friends that do this at Pecos Bills. It's 75 cents for the extra bun, and they get two burgers out of it! It's a father/son (12) that do it. :)

I HAVE done it, no one looked at me strangely or anything. We were at Cosmic Rays. I think we were charged 80 cents for the bun. It worked great. We did lots of budget things that trip.

Personally I'd cut it in half and share that way--use the fixin's bar to add toppings. When my DD and I went in January we had the dining plan and we shared a lot of meals since there's no way that we could each eat a full meal, so we got good at spitting. But of course we also had the dessert to share in a counter serve meal and the appetizer at a sit-down meal.

This doesn't answer your question but another way to save money is to order order a kid's meal at a counter service restaurant. If you're not a big eater the kid's meals might just hit the spot. They are all 3.99 (except for Morocco) and they come with a kid's drink. If you're like me then you can never finish grown up sized sodas.

And not all of the kid's meals are chicken nuggets there are also wraps and salads. Check out the kid's menus on AllEars if you are interested http://allearsnet.com/menu/menus.htm.

At a counter service restaurant they don't really check to see if you actually have kids. You can't do this at a sit down restaurant though, at a table obviously they would be able to see that you aren't a kid. .

I generally order a kids meal for myself at the CS places. I can never eat the entire adult meal, especially for lunch. I am however, a HUGE diet coke drinker, so I sometimes order an extra one. Let's say I get my money's worth out of my refillable mug! :goodvibes

I didn't even know you could order an extra bun. Good to know. I don't like cheeseburgers, but if a hamburger is not on the menu, you can still get once and it is cheaper. I have ordered meals without fries and they cost less also, I love fries, but they come in the kids meals and my kids aren't that crazt about them, so we share.

We budget by ordering 1 meal and the other just sandwich, we then share the fries. I generally have brought water with me for the meal but sometimes we will share a large soda. It takes about $2 off the price to skip the fries. At some place I order the children's meal but only when the children's meal is a small version of the adult one- I don't want to spend my vacation eating chicken nuggets.
