Dining card vs Dining Plan???

Has anyone thought about getting a AP, buying the dining experience card and just using the 20% discount instead of the dining plan? (And maybe saving on hotel, too) The dining plan sounds like a lot of food - desserts we don't always have room to eat, and some of the appetizers on the menus I've seen look yucky. I guess if my boyfriend, my son and I plan on sitting down every night, the plan would be worth it. A nice dinner every night sounds good - but isn't that kinda time consuming?? Grabbing something quick seems more convenient. Any opinions?

That's what I did, got AP, saved on room, now I'm going to purchase DDE card to save 20% on the sit down meals that I want...

AP and DDE made more since for me because we are returning more than once.

I have not calculated the exact figures yet, but we have saved quite a few dollars with the AP discount.

Of course, I'm not going during the free dining either.

I've got some numbers for you from our April trip. We saved $175 on food after subtracting the $50 for the DDE card. And we saved $250 on the hotel. And we'll be saving even more on our Jan. trip. Maine

That's what I did.

Extra cost of AP over planned MYW tickets $185. Cost of DDE card $50.

Room savings AP rate vs AAA rate $100. Savings for 1 day parking while staying off-site $8. Estimated Savings using DDE card $183.

Net savings of around $50.

The main reason this works for us vs the dining plan is we are doing mostly TS and not much CS. We'll do a late breakfast or early lunch and a dinner every day. The few days we're doing CS wouldn't make it worthwhile to get the dining plan.
