Digital Membership Cards?

I sure hope there’s a fix to the resale blue card owners (grandfathered in before the resale restrictions were added). Right now it’s a yes or no. My daughter falls into this category. She’s a blue card holder, resale buyer from many years ago.

It’s been reported that it will be fixed in the next few weeks. That is why they will accept the blue card from the website until it is.

Finally got in to get the info. From the FAQ's posted when first announced:

Q: How will Members who do not own a smartphone access their Membership card and benefits?
A.
Any Member listed on the Membership, or anyone who manages the Membership will be able to use their smartphone to access and verify Membership.

I wonder if they'll export this information to magic bands, or "Magic Band+" (yet to be released), so I won't have to root around on my phone every time I want to buy something in order to get the discount? Seems logical that they'd want to do that, but this is Disney IT we're talking about...

How does this work when only one person has a DVC log in account? My husband doesn't have one and has never had the DVC affiliation show on his MDE account. I assume he will now need his own DVC account to have this show on the mobile pass?
My husbands shows DVC, AP, and Castaway Club. My only shows AP. I guess I have to call member services? But why doesn’t my castaway club affiliation show?

Well, it’s not Disney IT making this decision - it’s just Disney IT fumbling the rollout.

Some corporate executive almost certainly was the one who decided that we’d be forced to use smart phones.

Of course, I still have to pull out my wallet for an ID and (optionally) credit card, so this new system only makes it MORE DIFFICULT for me because now I have to juggle a smart phone as well.

But it does save Disney a few bucks by stopping those relatively few former DVC members from using their cards, so I guess that’s all that matters to Disney.>:(

It also stops the many DVC members who use the discounts when they don't actually qualify for them. When Disney uses those discounts as a way to push direct sales they can't have white card holders getting discounted AP's, dining, etc.

I don’t understand. I thought Blue Cards only go to DVC members who qualify for discounts.

Yes but many (most?) CM's don't know the difference and give discounts to all DVC members. Members just show the white card and are given discounts. With this new digital method they can simply scan and see whether or not someone is entitled to a discount and it removes the CM discretion.

I did this following to “fix” this same issue for me (another user also did the same and said it worked).

First — remove the card from your wallet.

Next — In the MDE app go to your profile / account settings. Remove your cell phone and save settings. Go back into account settings and add the cell phone back and verify it (it took a minute for the verification code to get to me).

Next — Wait a few seconds and go back into MagicMobile. You SHOULD now see the DVC design (and AP if you are an AP). Add the card. It should add to Wallet with the DVC design and any affiliations you have.

Finally — never touch MagicMobile again as I assume it would break the affiliations.
Thanks for the fix…now I just have to figure out how to get my DH his pass since he doesn’t have his own My Disney Experience account.

I'm still not understanding what all the "I don't want to be on my phone" issue is. Really. Most people are on their phones all the time. And I use mine as a camera. I get that some "grandfathered" folks aren't seeing the correct designation. But I wonder if Disney pulled the plug on those benefits. After all it says "may change".

It was just a coding error in the same way that those who are white card members with some direct points were coded as blue card. They just looked at direct vs resale with the coding and have acknowledged it was an error that they are fixing.

I used the fix above and it worked for me, but is there a way to see the entire affiliations. Mine says dvc Y, Annual, Cas. I’m wondering if my Disney Visa is there too.

DH is on our membership but has no log in for DVC and no MDE account. Would he first need to get a log in for DVC? He has always had his own plastic card.

So far, I've seen 2 complaints identified.
  1. "Most people are on their phone all the time." That's the point. People are on vacation and looking to get away from the constant intrusion of the smart phone.
  2. Using a smart phone means yet another medium to juggle. We now have physical cards (e.g. photo ID), Magic Band, and smart phone. When it comes to Blue/White Cards, there's nothing that is being done on the smart phone that couldn't be done with a Magic Band. And keep in mind for that those who don't want a Magic Band, Disney's hotels still offer a card as a room key. So we don't need a Magic Band either. All we need is a card and Cast Members who apply discounts correctly.

im no expert, but when I did my card, everyone that i manage on MDE (friends & family) comes up and ask me if I want to do a card for them. Then it gives me the opportunity to share it. Perhaps this is an option for you.

I finally got mine to work but in affiliations it says Annual which I do not currently have an AP. It says DVC which I guess is the more important part.

It is an option but the DVC card image doesn't come up and there are no affiliations.

The only place I can see the full affiliation list is on my Apple Watch.
