Digital Membership Cards?

So far, I've seen 2 complaints identified.
  1. "Most people are on their phone all the time." That's the point. People are on vacation and looking to get away from the constant intrusion of the smart phone.
  2. Using a smart phone means yet another medium to juggle. We now have physical cards (e.g. photo ID), Magic Band, and smart phone. When it comes to Blue/White Cards, there's nothing that is being done on the smart phone that couldn't be done with a Magic Band. And keep in mind for that those who don't want a Magic Band, Disney's hotels still offer a card as a room key. So we don't need a Magic Band either. All we need is a card and Cast Members who apply discounts correctly.

Since they have not yet rolled out the specifics...which should have come by now..., I wonder if there is going to be a way to get it attached to a card at the hotel like they can do tickets? The answer from the website was silly, we all know that...

At the very least, there should be an option that allows someone to print the QR code to carry with them if they don't want to use the digital feature. Since that can be updated in real time, there is no way that someone who is no longer DVC will still have it, and those not eligible will not get them because it won't be coded to allow it.

The only place I can see the full affiliation list is on my Apple Watch.

Did you go into the Apple Wallet on your phone? I can see it there in the details section. That is what I took a picture of last night and printed to try next week.

If MDE is the "source" for the entitlements, I don't see why we couldn't use our Magic Bands to do whatever the MagicMobile thing does.
Surely eventually the idea is that scanning the QR code orassociated Magic Band or Card, will automatically apply whatever discounts are applicable?

My understanding was the QR is there simply as a back up for MagicMobile so also has an identical function to the band. So all should be tied to the discounts and can be used to prove them.

This would remove the need to bring up written affiliations as they’re just tags on the account.

I'm still not understanding what all the "I don't want to be on my phone" issue is. Really. Most people are on their phones all the time. And I use mine as a camera. I get that some "grandfathered" folks aren't seeing the correct designation. But I wonder if Disney pulled the plug on those benefits. After all it says "may change".
I have vision issues from numerous eye surgeries and also walk with a cane. Trying to hold a phone and see that tiny print is a challenge, especially in a crowd as I get overwhelmed. Some of us have disability issues with using a smartphone. Really. I have an android for emergencies only.

I have made several efforts to get this magicmobile thing to work and can't seem to get through the process and have tried all instructions I can find. It only shows my AP yet my DVC account shows my blue card.

I plan to bring my blue card in May and they can look at it along with my Sorcerer AP and Disney Visa if they like. Disney like all companies needs to accommodate disabilities. What if someone has severe arthritis in their fingers? There needs to be an alternative and it is up to Disney to figure it out. I'll let you know how it turns out!

What is DVIC…not sure if that was posted before? What is the distinction between DVC and DVIC?

Has anyone been successful in getting their affiliations to show up on MM if they don't have their own sign on? Our DVC account is under my husband but I'm the one who makes all the reservations. I am on all of the contracts. I called Disney and the rep said they aren't sure how it all works yet??? WHAT??? I'm now on hold with DVC.

While I'm happy to see all the interest in Magic Mobile, unless one has a January or possibly an early February trip, I'm not sure what the urgency is around this. I think part of the problem with the website is the heavy traffic from people trying to figure this all out right now.

Not excusing Disney - I believe they should properly size the capacity to handle demand. However, it would be nice if those worried about Magic Mobile for a trip later in the year, would let it go for now and allow people who want to make, cancel or modify reservations a better shot at getting that done in a timely manner. It's hard enough as it is to make 11 month December reservations without the extra frustration of a slow / non-working website.

JMHO. YMMV.

With respect to the point that this will require opening both the phone and still a wallet to pull out a drivers license (or something similar) to prove ID, I'm wondering if the ID portion of the transaction will just fade away.
In my experience over 10 years cast members have only asked for personal identification in addition to the blue card maybe 1/3 of the time. On my recent trip the last week of 2021, I was never asked once in 10-12 transactions where I pulled out the blue card for the discount.
Handing your blue card to someone you know is easy. I expect some people did so for entire vacations. So there was always a decent chance someone using the card was not entitled to the benefits if ID was not checked. But how many people will lend someone else their phone to go even for a 2-3 hour meal (or even 30 minute trip to a store) in order to get a discount? Not many. People who use smartphones often hate to be without them, and frankly because so much is on them - bank accounts, credit cards, etc. - it is a risk to lend it to someone else. Putting the membership card on the phone makes asking for personal ID almost redundant. Yes, there will be edge cases where someone does it, but most of the time the person with the phone is the owner (or at most very, very close like a spouse).

I agree with you. CMs barely ask for ID as it is. It will likely be less with a QR code. Also, you don’t have to give them your phone. You can share your QR code into someone else’s wallet. Even if you couldn’t do this you could screen shot your QR code and text it. This is why I believe they just created the same amount or more people using the discount that shouldn’t.

Other than those who don't have DVC accounts set up (and need to call for that) it's all done on MDE not the DVC website. Shouldn't be too much of a correlation. That may be more about people paying the annual dues as I know owners are starting to report receiving their paper statements?

Oh - and DVC has to stop doing this sort of stuff every New Year. Year after year they do this and it coincides with people trying to book the busiest travel time.

I did this following to “fix” this same issue for me (another user also did the same and said it worked).

First — remove the card from your wallet.

Next — In the MDE app go to your profile / account settings. Remove your cell phone and save settings. Go back into account settings and add the cell phone back and verify it (it took a minute for the verification code to get to me).

Next — Wait a few seconds and go back into MagicMobile. You SHOULD now see the DVC design (and AP if you are an AP). Add the card. It should add to Wallet with the DVC design and any affiliations you have.

Finally — never touch MagicMobile again as I assume it would break the affiliations.

This works!!!!

Anyone know how to download the member card to MDE WITHOUT using Google Pay. I don't ever use it, and have no intention of adding a digital wallet to my phone or giving Google more access to my stuff. Thanks but no thanks.
I'm still hoping someone will reply to your question. I tried to use MagicMobile when it first came out, but apparently wasn't able to b/c I don't have Apple Pay set up. I still haven't seen a solution for that.
