Digital Membership Cards?

I agree with you. CMs barely ask for ID as it is. It will likely be less with a QR code. Also, you don’t have to give them your phone. You can share your QR code into someone else’s wallet. Even if you couldn’t do this you could screen shot your QR code and text it. This is why I believe they just created the same amount or more people using the discount that shouldn’t.
For this reasons I am disappointed that the word is they will be using the QR code to verify. The Wallet feature on smartphones is much more powerful and flexible than that, and even the Disney MagicMobile pass uses those strengths for other purposes. You can enter a subway, bus, or ticketed event (including WDW theme parks) and other situations without unlocking the phone and selecting a specific card and having it visually scanned by a person or machine. You generally wave or tap the phone to a reader and it will read if you have the right pass or ticket automatically. But the preliminary word on the DVC member card is you have to (1) unlock the phone, (2) open the Wallet, (3) select the WDW MagicMobile pass, (4) flip it over, and (5) have a reader scan the QR code.
The QR code should be a backup for use only if the automated tech fails. And if you use the automated tech the way the wallets are meant to work, then you reduce the opportunity for people to screenshot the the QR code and then share it among multiple people.

I'm still hoping someone will reply to your question. I tried to use MagicMobile when it first came out, but apparently wasn't able to b/c I don't have Apple Pay set up. I still haven't seen a solution for that.

Until DVC comes out with more information there is currently no way as Magic Mobile requires it to added to one of those.

Even those outside of DVC can’t use Magic Mobile without doing that. So, at this point, since DVC has tied discounts and our card as part of that, that is all we have until more info as to what owners will do who don’t want to use that avebue.

No affiliations were picked up on mine, although they are in my MDE profile. (we have a blue card direct contract and a resale contract). Oddly my husbands says CAST, and he has no Disney Login, never had MDE, and was never a CM (I was, I am a retiree).

Has anyone been successful in getting their affiliations to show up on MM if they don't have their own sign on? Our DVC account is under my husband but I'm the one who makes all the reservations. I am on all of the contracts. I called Disney and the rep said they aren't sure how it all works yet??? WHAT??? I'm now on hold with DVC.

Apparently no. Every member needs their own DVC and MDE account to be recognized by Magic Mobile.

Absolute lunacy.

So, from what I was told... everyone needs to have their own MDE and DVC account (except minors, of course). I will have to call back to get the DVC part set up because the website is down. What a nightmare. I wish we had known this from the beginning. I will also have to call DCL to get the CC added too. I am in the process of getting my teens set up with their own MDE account but that is down now too!!!! UGGGG

I think part of the frustration is that we did not announce a January 1 roll out for the new system - Disney did.

Disney had months and months to work through this.

Disney easily could have sent an email on December 31 saying the new system is not ready.

Disney easily could have sent an email on January 2 (or 3 or 4 or 5 or …) saying they have received reports of problems and are working on them.

Disney set the expectations, failed to deliver on them, and then failed to notify members of the problem.

This is Disney’s failure. Members have every right to express frustration on these threads about it.

I think this is the biggest issue. They put out info to say coming soon, and then let people speculate as to how it will work.

No justification for an email not to be sent to all owners saying it’s not quite ready…just use your expired card.

If I wasn’t going next week, and buying my AP renewal and want to use my discounts, I probably would not care. I do have my Apple Watch and use that in place of a magic band now so I want to be sure I am set,

But, I have my QR code printed and in my wallet with my license ready to go! I am surprised though by the number of people who don’t get asked for ID…i can count on one hand how many times I didn’t need to show it with my blue card!

I realize I am putting a lot more faith in Disney IT than is warranted, but I believe it should be possible for a system to tell if a member card is loaned or not.

All they need to do is ask for ID consistently. Or, do what they do for DAS…take your picture which pops up.

Maybe it will work without needing to bring it up? You don’t need to for the ticket entry. But I did to access DAS . That may have changed since I was last there though.

Does anyone know if Disney accepts a photograph of a state or federal ID as proof of ID? I know other places that request ID, such as cruise ships, will allow a photocopy of a passport or ID to be used for ship entry at ports of call back before smart phones, and a photo of the ID that's legible and clean in Smartphone era. If Disney would accept a photo of a driver's license, at least one could keep all of that on their phone and not have to bring the redundant wallet and ID.

That sounds like one of those situations where one CM would go yea sure, but the next would be like no I need an actual ID. Or basically like it is now where half the time they ask for id, half the time they dont.

Quick update:
1. Some places are taking the blue card.
2. Others are taking the QR code from Magic Mobile.
3. Others are asking me to open my passes on MDE.
4. Others are insisting we need another hard copy blue card because they insist our membership has expired.

As usual, ID is inconsistent with some CMs asking and others not.

We’ve resorted to just using our AP cards now. My husband is pissed and over it all. The only issue we had with situation 4 was in the little gift shop near Ratatouille two nights ago.

Yes, most places did the last time I was there. The only place that would not was Germany shop. I had to go back later with it.

That is my plan this time too. Show my ID from my phone and use Magic Mobile but At least try the hard copy of the QR code so I can report back.
