Surely I cant be the only one who has trouble remembering what certain acronyms mean because they already mean something else for you :)

Like BLT: Bay Lake Tower except that for me it's still Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato :rotfl:

OKW is more for the historians/mutilinguists here: Old Key West or rather: OberKommando West. (German headquarters in the west in WW2)

POR is of course Port Orleans Riverside. Except that i Dutch it's a word meaning shove or push.....:lmao:

Anyone else?

I'm with you .... CSR usually throws me for a minute :confused3

http://www.wdwinfo.com/abbreviations.htm - this is handy though

I get confused when there are multiple DIS uses for the same acronym. For example, CM can mean Chef Mickey's or Cast Member, FW can mean Future World or Fort Wilderness, or CP can mean Crystal Palace or College Program. Sometimes I have to read a post through a couple times to make sure I've got the context correct so I know what they're talking about.

This one got me yesterday and I had to look it up :confused3

MVMCP
- Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

Last week I was stumped by this one:

MNSSHP
- Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party

I think the D before something is suppose to be dear (DD, dear daughter, dh, dear husband) but I always find myself reading it as disney (dd, disney daughter, dh, disney husband)

HAHAH this is so me!!! If you were speaking some of the acronyms to me i would just be smiling and nodding! LOL

Oh, I got slammed for saying that NBC was kind of dumb of Nightmare Before Christmas. To me, that's a TV network.

And that's why I don't use acronyms. I don't even use them when I text. Take an extra minute and write the darn thing out.

Wait until you have a conversation with another Disney veteran using all the different abbreviations.

People look at you like you have invented another language.:lmao:

Cigar95 That's why Bay Lake Tower is sometimes referred to as "The Sandwich"!

:rotfl2:

I knew I couldnt be the only one :)

There are more of course but some are just funny cause in Dutch they have a different meaning... not suitable for putting here :rolleyes1

Actually the DD, DH, etc started on early message boards. Then it was meant to be dear, darling, or damn... depending on the context.

so if DH did something good its dear, if I'm ranting about DH forgetting to do something AGAIN... well its the third one :)

As for other acronyms now that I'm working as an engineering in a DoD program, I am used to all our TLAs.. and OLAs (since all our acronyms aren't three letters), and we have so many meanings for things on different programs that I'm just used to it.

When I first was starting to plan my wedding though I was still in college, STD took me a while to get used to (Save the Date). Now at work its also a Software (or System) Test Description

While this does not get used here on the DIS, when I was on a wedding planning forum STD referred to Save the Date and BM referred to bridesmaid or best man. Those took some getting used to!

I confused the heck out of some of my facebook friends because I was posting on my FB status what I was doing at WDW, in DIS acronyms. All the DISers on my FB knew exactly what I meant, everyone else thought I was speaking in another language. :rotfl:

PS dbf saw "BLT" and said that any hotel that had that name he had to stay at.... :lmao:

I still get confused when people put TIA(Thanks In Advance) at the end of the post.

I was thinking at first there are a lot of people named Tia on here.

CSR gets me because I think it means customer service representative. BLT is, of course, a sandwich to me too. And I know I can't be the only one who reads ASSports as...well the first three letters of that with "ports" added onto the end. :rotfl:

... And I know I can't be the only one who reads ASSports as...well the first three letters of that with "ports" added onto the end. :rotfl:

Yep .... I've noticed that one too. It's just wrong to be using that abbreiviation on this board  Shouldn't it just be ASSR or ASR?

I have to watch myself when I'm typing on Facebook, because I only have 1 friend there that is also on here, I have had to stop and check before I post something to make sure everybody understands.

And I still don't get most of the text talk, so don't bother text talking me, write it out. I absolutely hate prolly, that is annoying as all get out, amongst other ones.

I still get confused when people put TIA(Thanks In Advance) at the end of the post.

I was in the hospital a couple years ago for a TIA.

'Cept in my case, it was a "Transient Ischemic Attack".

Odd thing is, with message board acronyms in my head, when talking to my doctor I will occasionally refer to it as "my TMI", instead of "my TIA". That gets us both confused.

I think the D before something is suppose to be dear (DD, dear daughter, dh, dear husband) but I always find myself reading it as disney (dd, disney daughter, dh, disney husband)

I think of it as substituting D for ("Duh") for the word "The" as in "I'm going to WDW with Duh Husband or Duh Wife" :rotfl2:
