What are the biggest differences between the std and pref at BWV. All I hear is that pref has a Garden or Pool view and Std does not. Can anyone be more specific in the differences? What is the view for the std? Is Pref that much better?

Thanks

Most standard view rooms face the entrance toward the parking lot, although some are on the end of the building and will have a view of MGM off to the side. Don't expect that means all pavement though, because there is plenty of DIsney landscaping in there!

I'm not a BWV expert, and I'm sure you will get more responses. But from my understanding, the standard view is that of the valet parking lot/tennis court area, as well as the circular driveway when you pull into the resort (where valet is). Preferred can be of one of the pools (the main pool is a nice view), as well as any view that overlooks water. I had a preferred view in 2003. While, yes, it did overlook a small canal (thus the water view), and also had a view of TOT (if you stood out on the balcony and turned 90 degrees to the right), the primary larger view was that of the valet parking lot. Apparently, some of the rooms on that side of the resort are categorized std and others preferred. I believe it is the rooms closer to the end of the hallway on that side that are preferred. In my opinion though, they should be standard, but that's just how I feel. If I had a preferred view in the future, I think I would request "pool" view so as to avoid the valet parking lot view.
Then you have your preferred "boardwalk" view which are very nice----though they must be guaranteed at booking to be sure you get them, and as far as I know, there are not as many of these views as there are the other views (primarily the preferred non-boardwalk views).
Hope this helps a little. I'm sure BWV owners will chime in with more info. They might be able to offer some more insight.

The rooms themselves are exactly the same.

As already mentioned, the standard view rooms overlook the resort entrance and the driveway leading up to it. There is lots of landscaping between the villa building and the black topped areas. The balconys of some of the standard view rooms have views of the higher level fireworks from IllumiNations.

IMHO, there are no truly awful views at the BWV, and the standard view rooms are the best DVC bargain on property (lower point cost for a room at a resort with a great location). BWV owners often book up the SV rooms before the 7 month window opens.

Best wishes -

I agree.....technically none of the DVC resorts have "awful" views (haven't stayed at BCV or SSR yet), but as far as a preferred room at BWV goes, I feel mine was about the least desirable. When we looked out the patio doors from inside the room, all we saw was the parking lot. And there are many rooms on that side of the resort. For standard points, I feel I would have accepted it much better.
I saw many more nice views at BWV for PV points----particularily of the main pool area.

Well, I'm afraid that although my view probably wasn't awful (it was WDW and I didn't overlook a dumpster), my preferred view studio view was very disappointing last year. It was tucked in a corner and my only real "view" was of the doorway downstairs and the wall to my right. Fortunately I was only there for one night. Not sure of the number-it was on the fourth floor, about 1/2 way down turn to the left, then the room was on the right.

I loved our Standard View last September.

Yes, it overlooked the front entrance....

but had a great view of the Epcot Fireworks each night:

My understanding is that they have Preferred Boardwalk view which overlooks the boardwalk, and preferred Pool view which overlooks the pool. We originally had the Preferred Pool view and I waitlisted for the Standard view and got it. I didn't want hear all the noise from the pool, and it saved us points.

We always book Std View and request a "view of the bus stop" :) That usually gets us a room with a view similar to that shown by unixadm and also a very close walk to the bus stop.....just go down the stairwell and out the side door to the sidewalk/crosswalk direct to the bus stop. Going out the same stair case but out the other side of the building takes us right to the Community Hall/Quiet Pool. Love that standard view.....we stay 2 extra nights every year we get it!

I've heard about this view Alexander----lucky enough not to get it during our one stay at VWL. Our room overlooked the VWL pool area.
