Diez (10) Noches Calientes en la Riviera Mexicana/17 de abril 2011 (4.17.11 Wonder!)

Are they back to the traditional character breakfast? Last time we cruised it was more of a show format with the characters doing a little song and dance in the center of the dining room. Those who wanted to interact with them, get pictures, etc had to go there. I think a lot of folks were unhappy with that change though, so maybe they're back to the old format with the characters coming around to each table. I hope so.

I booked tea and brunch but didn't worry too much about days. I've found that as long as you have a reservation, they're good about working with you to change it if you find you have conflicts once onboard.
Doesn't booking for all CC members open soon?

I've been hearing a little rumbling about other cruise ships pulling out of Mexico because of danger. pirate: Does it change anyone's mind about shore excursions? I would really like to do excursions since we'll have so many days on the ship already.

Thanks for the link!!!

Re. FE's; my girls will be 5 and 7 at time of sailing.

Are there any other single parents sailing here? I made Palo ressies, but it's just me, so would be happy to share!!!

~Jennifer (one of many!!!)

Hey Jennifer, do you want to try and coordinate our day for tea? I booked for 2 people, but DH has absolutely no interest in tea at Palo. I'm sure he'd be thrilled if I offered up his spot. Maybe we could make it a small Dis group tea. I think it would be especially nice if there are a couple of Dis-ers who aren't able to get ressies when their booking window opens, and would like to join us.

Right now I have tea on day 3, but it looks like everything is still wide open (at least until the next booking window opens) so I could change it to anything other than day 7.

Let me know if you want to give it a shot.

I think that we are going to only do 2 excursions one in PV and the other in Cabo, then stay on the ship for the other 2.

https://www.offthevinewines.com/ Right in the downtown area near the port. I've read there are also several grocery stores in the area that sell alcohol. Are you staying in San Pedro Saturday night or just planning a quick stop somewhere Sunday morning?

Speaking of staying in San Pedro, is anyone else spending Saturday night at the Doubletree? That's where we're staying and I thought it might be fun to have a quick informal meet if anyone else will be there. :goodvibes

99 days!! Time for the double digit happy dance! :dance3::dance3::dance3:

Thanks so much for the wine store link :goodvibes. We will stop on Saturday on the way to San Pedro.

We are also staying at the Doubletree. It would be nice to have a quick meet at the hotel. However, we have not booked our flight yet - dh is under the crazy impression that the price might actually go down :confused3 - so I'm not sure what time we'll arrive. We'll book our flight in the next week or so.

We're actually having a trip planning meeting tonight with Coffman6 since we will be able to book Palo and excursions soon. It's a good excuse to have margaritas :goodvibes

Are they back to the traditional character breakfast? ....

We were on the Magic in July 2008 and March 2010. Both times the characters came around to each table - hope that hasn't changed. And yes, we get to start booking tomorrow night!:banana:

From what I've read, Carnival and RCCL are moving their ships because they aren't making the money on the west coast that they could be making elsewhere. The violence in Mexico probably has something to do with that since some people just don't want to go down there (plus they all do such similar itineraries; people get tired of the same old ports.) Hasn't changed our minds about excursions at all. We're getting off at every stop, some DCL excursions, some private. Can't wait! :woohoo:

Sandy - I can only speak from my experience on the 7 day cruises. You are assigned to a character breakfast on a sea day based on your dining rotation and time. I don't think there's going to be a way to know which day you will have your character breakfast until you get on board and talk to the dining room staff.

From pictures I took and what I can remember, the characters were Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, Chip and Dale. They came to each table and interacted a little, definitely had lots of time for pictures. It was fun! (And it's not only for kids; just DH and I went to ours - DD was too tired from her long night at the kids' club and I didn't want to miss my chance for a picture with Mickey! :mickeyjum)

I think they had tickets in our room with our Character Breakfast time and date. You get the same table, table mates, and servers as you have at dinner. To be safe, I am going to book our Palo brunch on the 21st. Hoping the breakfast would have been earlier. If they conflict, I will just change our Palo brunch, I think that is easy to do.

So far I am going to book Palo for High Tea on the 18th, brunch on the 21st and Dinner on the 23rd. I would love to add another brunch if they had one open.

Popping in to give our experience with Character Breakfast. We have only been on 7 night cruises and it is based on your dinning rotation. If you have early dinning, then you will be placed at the 8am CB and if you have later, then you will have the later, which I think is 9:45. On our Wonder NYE trip, they were doing the table rotation vs the show. Unfortunately for us, they had CB set for 1/1 at 8am in the morning. After staying for the NYE celebration it was hard to get up. I declined going since I done this on our previous cruise and wasn't that excited about CB. DH and DD dragged themselves out of bad and headed down to the CB. I show up about 8:40 and there was hardly anyone there and DH mentioned that they had a hard time to get the character to come over to the table. We also had our Palo's brunch schedule for that morning at 10:30, but DH went with DD and just had coffee.

Both of the CB I have been on with Magic and Wonder, have been very rushed and it is probably to do with the time schedule to clear out the room for the next breakfast. They will do autographs and quick pictures, but there is no photographers for this event, like everything else on the cruise. Nothing like at the parks.

BTW... Since we are no longer on the cruise, please remove us from the FE.

Enjoy!

Advice please: This is my first DCL cruise, and I'm so excited that I'm ready to book for next year. My question: should I book now, since it's still early on, or should I wait until our cruise to book to get the discount? If I book now, can I rebook it then for discount, or will they make adjustment? And if any specials come around before then (6/2012) can I take advantage of them? Thanks all you wise veterans!

Thanks Laura, might just skip it since we do CB at DL almost every trip and there's lots more characters at DL.

Thanks for the suggestions! So happy (and appreciative) of the advice being a new mom and all. I was a nanny once but this is totally different!! I can't wait to meet you all. Hubby got a kick out of your inflation quote!!!:scared1::sick: scared sick!

It's been different this time around for us too. Our oldest son (Nick 32) and JoJo are so different and unique kids. JoJo has/is more of a challenge and Nick was such an easy going child. :confused3

91 days PEOPLE!! I hope everyone that gets to go on-line tonight gets what they want! :thumbsup2

Susan - If you book now and then get a better price on board with the 10% off, they will rebook your reservation, but I'm not sure if they refund the extra deposit amount or apply it to your total. You can take advantage of specials and price adjustments up to final payment but you can't always combine discounts. For example, I had to give up my 10% discount to take advantage of the KSF offer. Actually, what I did was move the discounted cruise to this summer and then book a new MR cruise with the KSF offer.

Sandy and Kristen - Enjoy your kids being small! Mine is growing up way too fast. She got her learner's permit yesterday and we spent the day on driving lessons! :scared1::scared1:

Somehow I was removed from the FE list that travelbee has on her site, but it shows up on the list true romance has on this thread... just to be sure we'd like to participate (this stuff is heavier than my clothing!) with me, DH and DD:thumbsup2

Don't worry Kristen, I got you :goodvibes I am in charge of the FE and have a master spreadsheet I am keeping. I will post my list every week or so now that we are getting closer.

Yay, 10 minutes till I get to book Palo :cool1::cool1: I would also love to join anyone for high tea if we are looking for a DIStea. Just let me know time and date.

Well guys...did you get what you were hoping for?? :confused3

I so know that! They grow so fast don't they. :sad1:

Anyone else (silver member) having trouble? It let me book the 2nd sea day and that was it...nothing else. Hmm. I will keep trying but I am hoping it is just a glitch?
