Diet Pills

Many have mentioned it and I was going to do some quotes but there are too many. :)

I too have wanted to lose weight for a while...simulate a plan...never follow through...put on another pound or two...BUT for New Years I decided to change. I developed a plan ON PAPER. For some reason, having it down on paper and looking at it and charting my progress seems to help.

.

Congrats on writing your plan and following through:cheer2: Keep us posted on your progress!!

Okay here's an update if anyone is interested:

Yesterday had a very dry mouth all day and night.
I woke up about 1:30am and couldn't sleep. I felt like I needed to be running around doing something (but not in a "i can't keep still" way) I just had energy. So I just layed in bed and I think the last time I remember looking at the clock was about 3:30am.
I took the pill again at 7am today and feel fine. Very dry mouth but I'm drinking lots of water.
All in all, I'm not hungry.

I'm starting tommorow morning and I'm still trying to figure out why my Dr. prescribed 37.5 miiligrams instead of 30? I need to lose 20 lbs. to be at prepregnancy weight. Did you get the yellow tablets or blue/clear ones? I heard the blue 30 mg's are the best. Hope you get some sleep, as that has to be the worst. Keep us updated and after I start I will do the same.:goodvibes

I got the yellow ones. But I am happy to say that I only woke up that first night. The only side effect I've noticed is the dry mouth. :thumbsup2
I have not weighed myself yet. I'm trying to wait a week. It's hard cause I wanna jump on the scale right now but I'm trying to not be obsessive about it :rolleyes1
I can say that because i'm not hungry for most of the day, my calorie intake has dropped drastically. I am still making sure I eat (and healthy) but I have no real desire for food which is great. I can eat enough to give me what I need and am not going crazy on portions. I'm also upping my exercise a bit. My goal is to keep increasing my exercise over a period of time.
Let me know how things go with you. We can do this!

I give Phentermine two thumbs up IF combined with good nutritional counciling. If you take it and just don't eat you will kill your metabolism. If you take it and eat a balanced low calorie diet the weight will melt away and stay off -- unless you start eating too much again.

Phentermine is a great tool to help you change your eating habits for the better.

I took 37.5 mg and lost 30 lbs in 4.5 months. I only took the pills a third of the time. Some times of the month I am just not hungry so I didn't waste them. A lot of times I just take half a pill to curb the afternoon munchies.

I have been on Phentermine since early November. I go into the doc every month where he keeps tabs on my weight loss - heart and blood pressure.

I went back in yesteday and I have lost 40 pounds so far. My DH is also on it and has lost about 20 (since august).

It is not a beat all cure all and it will NOT do the work for you -which is why DH has not lost what I have. I work out 5- 6 days a week. I still really have to watch what I eat and my portions.

I have noticed that the effect on my appetite is beginning to fade a bit. Which in my opinion is a good thing. It is allowing me to depend more on ME and less on the pill.

I still occassionally get dry mouth, but not like I did at first. I never had a problem with not being able to sleep. You may want to ask your doc for a lower dosage if that continues.

I was a bit shaky the first few days, but that faded quickly.

The biggest thing with this pill is it is NOT a miracle pill that is going to do it for you. YOU have to do the work - it just helps you along a bit. You also have to change your lifestyle and know that it is a FOREVER life style change and not jsut a temporary one. Or the weight will come right back on when you stop taking it.

Good luck to everyone else who is taking it. I really hope it is as good for you as it has been for me.

:goodvibes

I'm jumping in here to tell you all my experience today! First, my doctor will not prescribe me diet pills because of an underlying medical condition. So they are not an option.

Anyhoo, a friend of mine saw a hypnotist for cigarette smoking cessation. It worked. She said it was easy to quit after that. Then I saw an ad in the paper for a hypnotist for weight loss. I looked the guy up online and pretty much determined he was a fraud. While checking up on this guy, I ran across Dotti's Weight Loss zone which I had visited for WW recipes in the past. She recommended a audio hypnosis cd for weight loss/help. I then went to Amazon and looked at different ones and selected one with good reviews. Well, I've listened to the 1st CD the introduction for 2 days. Last night, I put the first actual weight loss CD in. I fell asleep -- but today I am not hungry at all. :confused3 Don't know if I'm just not hungry - or if that is working somehow. I do know that last night was the first night in the past 2 months that I have not woke up with a sore jaw from clenching my teeth so tight. :confused3

^^ are you in the Chattanooga area? I have seen those ads for the hypnotist and I tried to get my mom to go for smoking. Just wondering!!

No-- other side of the state. The one in the paper that I saw -- I can't remember the guy but it was $59.99 for the session. I looked this guy up online and it turned out he was a sham or close to it. Every site said you would need more than I session.

I don't know where my friend with for smoking -- she's from Arkansas and commutes to work here 3 days a week. I'd imagine she did it either in ARK or Memphis

What's the site? My DH used hypnosis for smoking Dec 6 and hasn't smoked since!!!!!!! :)

I wish DH would go. The site was the guy that advertised in the paper -- this came up with sham reports. If you google Dottis Weight Loss Zone with hypnosis you will get the hypnosis CD that she endorses. This one was too expensive for me to even try (skeptic in me thinking it will definitely not work). I went to Amazon and read reviews of different hypnosis CDs -- the one I got was the Self-Hypnosis Diet. (I ended up buying it from BooksAMillion to get SR $back and because I have a discount card with them). Mine is a 3 CD set -- I've listened to the introduction 2x and last night was my first time with the "trance" session. Being the ever living skeptic -- I didn't think this would work -- I was amazed. I hope it works every day.

I forget what network it was had the 7 people on the diet for their high school reunion... the guy with the hypnotist lost weight as long as he was having his sessions. When he stopped doing the sessions, he would gain weight back.

I figure it can't hurt -- if it works for me -- I'm getting DH the stop smoking ones. He doesn't want to quit -- but I'll play it when he's sleeping.

ARE WE SHARING A BRAIN?!?!?! And don't even know each other?!?!
I too have hypothyroidism after my DS was born, and do have to take daily meds. Pouchy stomach- oh yeah. Women asking me when I was due in front of perky skinny hostesses at restaraunt-oh yeah (and let me just add I was holding my DD who was less than one year old at the time).

My doctor gave me a 30 day prescription for tenuate dospan, because I had done weight watchers for 3 months and lost 3 pounds. He said that it would jump start me and then I would be motivated to exercise. So I took it, it worked well, but now that I have stopped, the weight loss has stopped too. :confused3 Even though I am eating less and better food choices.

Enough of a rant. . .OP, talk to your doctor, have your thyroid checked, and do what feels right to you. If pills work for you great, if you do diet and exercise only, good too. Just become the healthiest you can be!

Well I got my bloodtest results back and my thyroid levels are more elated than they were. I knew it because i was feeling so tired all the time and I can't lose weight no matter how hard I try. I have to go for a retest after my thyroid ultrasound. I may end up on medication for this. I'm hoping to be able to tale thethyroid meds and possbly stop the Phentermine but we will see what the Dr. says. Did the thyroid meds make you feel less tired and were you able to shed a few pounds? Also after you stopped the pills did you gain weight back or just hit a plateau? I hope the Dr. will let me refill the script for 2 more months so I can lose most of my weight.

That might work for some. But I think other people myself included have eaten 1000-1200 calories exercised everyday and the scale doesn't move. I think the pills boost your metabolism and a hypnotist can't do that. Although I'm sure if it can help if your addicted to food, smoking cigarettes ect.

Well -- I guess I see a contradiction -- why would you take an appetite suppressant then? Tenuate dospan & phentermine are appetite suppressants.

Don't count me out on the dieting without losing weight -- I have the same problem and my doctor has sent me to Vanderbilt with no success. I also have a thyroid problem & the pills did nothing -- it was only after my doctor sent me to an herbalist that my blood tests were showing any improvement.

My thyroid problem is why my doctor will not put me on "diet pills"

I was running 5k a day, eating 1300 cal and gaining weight :confused3 so sister you are preaching to the choir. At this point, it can't hurt

For those of you who are restricting calories and exercising and still not losing weight, such as described above, I would question whether or not your body has gone into starvation mode and is holding on to your extra weight as a preservation method. It happens. If you are eating too little and expending too much on exercise, your body will refuse to part with its fat reserves because it is being denied the calories it needs to function properly.

I'd suggest you go to FitDay dot com and enter in your food intake vs exercise output to see what your basic caloric needs are. If you are way under what your target should be then starvation mode is a likely scenario. Upping your calories would probably trigger weight loss. Sounds odd but you do have to eat to lose.

Actually I have alot of the same issues you have as far as the thyroid and not being able to lose no matter what I do. Phentermine is also stimulates your metabolism it's not just and appetite suppressant. I sure it raises my metabolism, even though I have hypothyroidism. I will be asking my Dr. about that though since your Dr. will not put you on pills :confused3 . I don't want to take them if they won't work anyway. My Dr. is not very informed when it comes to herbs he would rather write a script and get a kick back from the drug reps :rolleyes1 . I'm sure the hypnotist can't hurt.

The hypnosis session DH went to was from a random ad in the paper. It was at a local hotel.

It has been one week since I started the pills. I am exteamly happy to say that with good eating and exercise, I have lost 5 lbs. :cool1: That is a lot more than I've lost on my own. I'm extreamly happy.
Anyone else have any news to report?

Congratulations 5 lbs. is a good start!
I started on Saturday and lost 2 lbs. so far but my TOM is coming tommorow so I'm a bit bloated. I hope I lose 5 lbs. too though. I have only been eating like 1000 calories and exercising also.

Today my Dr. called in my Thyroid meds and I don't think I'm able take the Phentermine anymore with these meds :confused3 . Keep me posted with your progress. I have not had a real nights sleep in 4 days with the Phen.

I was started on Thyroid meds to day. I'm hoping to have somewhat of a metabolism back. It is a small dose though and the nurse told me to I could keep taking the Phentermine but the pharmicist advised against it and it also said not to take with weight loss drugs right on the bag :headache: . My Dr's nurse is a complete Idiot to say the least. what is Tenuate Dospan? Is it like Phentermine? Getting asked when your due is the embarressing to say the least. I must have been asked at least 6 times once by a very heavy lady I almost asked her if she bleeds gravy :rotfl2: because I'm fed up with being asked when I'm due. DS2 was with me and I said there is the baby that is due! mind you I need to lose 20 lbs. and most of it is belly fat  .
thanks for the advice.
