I have never taken one in my life and frankly am a little scared of them BUT...
I am seriously considering taking some. Anyone have any idea of what kind to use? I am at a loss. There are so many out there. Which one works????

I have used Phentermine 37.5mg, it's a prescription pill that my dr prescribed for me for short term (it's addictive, so you can only be on it around 3mths.) In the 3mths, I lost nearly 40lbs.

Bottom line, don't take ANY diet pills or supplements without seeing a doctor and being ready to make a lifestyle change--better/less eating and an excercise program.

Make an appointment with your GP or internist, and possibly as for a referral to a nutritionist as well. IMHO, if you are ready to make that lifestyle change and serious about the commitment, you will lose the weight without pills--most of which carry some risk of health problems.

I have taken fastin which is phentermine. It works.. I will tell you, nothing over the counter will work, no matter what the promise is! Go to your doctor, get a scrip and eat the proper way. That is the only way to do it. You must change your eating habbits to keep the weight off, or it will creep back on.. that I can tell you from experience! You should exercise, but I myself hardly ever find the time to do it. I know that is bad...

PHENTERMINE, THOUGH RECOMMEND STARTING WITH 15, THEN 30 THEN 37.5. DON'T TAKE FOR MORE THAN 90 DAYS AND YOU NEED A SCRIPT.....THEY RUN ABOUT $160 for 90 days and they work, but if you have high blood pressure or glaucoma they are not for you

I am currently taking phentermine. I really do like it - it works, but you also have to do the work. I have drastically reduced my calorie intake and I work out for 45 minutes every day. I lost 23 pounds in two months (and this was during the holidays) on it. This past month I hit a major plateau however and am just now starting to see it come off.

I also go into the doctor every month so he can make sure I am physically doing ok on the drug. It is definately not something you want to try without a doctor monitoring you and it is not for everyone. However if your doctor feels it would be good for you and you are willing to change your lifestyle - do the work you need to do it can really kick start you in the right direction.

Be aware however that it does have some serious side effects - insomnia and increase in blood pressure and heart rate are some of the common ones. My blood pressure has gone up slightly - my heart rate stays at around 100 BPM and I do have nearly constant dry mouth - but insomnia is not something I have experienced. Maybe because I work out so hard each day.

Isn't phentermine one of the drugs of the 90's drug combo known as "Phen-fen" that was pulled due to health risks? I believe heart or lung defects occured.

I have to agree with another poster who said if you are not ready to make the lifestyle overhaul that weight loss requires then you're not serious about losing weight. You're only looking for a quick fix in a pill form.

I can say with experience at weight loss that it is not easy. Life isn't easy. But anything that is worth the end result is worth the effort it takes to get there. I've reformed myself from four years ago being an inactive 250 lbs (in my 20's no less) to now being in the 130's and the best shape of my life. I've just become certified to teach aerobics, too. How's that for a lifestyle change?

At no point was it easy but I can say with pride that I did it on my own. I changed my diet, became educated about what crap is on the grocery shelves, began moving more, and NEVER took any diet pills. It can be done if you're willing to work for it.

My doc would never give me the 90 day supply. I would have to go back once a month for my check up before she would renew! She said she wanted to monitor my BP as well as weight. I was placed on them twice, once last year & once back in 97.. that was actually phen-phen. I was one of the few that had no problems from it.. I was only on them 90 days & lost 45 lbs.. and by 2006. I had gained back about 30 of it... that was when I was placed back on. That time I lost 25 of it & doc said I was ok... considering my age...
but each time.. I had to go for monthly check ups..

Phentermine is part of the phen-phen. The other part, pondiment was the dangerous drug. It was pulled from the market & had caused heart problems. There have been many suits agaist the drug maker. Phentermine had nothing to do with it.. that is still around & one of the safest (if you can say safe) you can get.

Trimspa did nothing for me. That is what my GYN doc had suggested I take. In fact, I gained weight taking it  That was when I went to my GP doc & she put me on the phentermine

WOW .. I just noticed what you said they ran. I paid $28 for a 30 day supply in Wal-mart for phentermine 37.5 just last summer

I agree on not taking anything without a doctor. Better, get a nutritionist and a personal trainer and work something out without the drugs if you can.

I've tried all kinds of things (including phen with a prescription and without--tsk tsk). I didn't like the feeling that I got from most of them. The one thing that I do really like is Power Pops. I actually have a green apple one in my mouth right now. LOL! I saw them on Entertainment Tonight or Extra one time. They have a little hoodia in them and some B vitamins. You drink a big glass of water when you eat them a couple of times a day.

The biggest perk is that it makes me drink enough water. The other is that I can have something in my mouth for an hour and not snack. I eat two a day in conjunction with Weight Watchers (they are 1 point each). It kept me from overindulging over the holidays and now gives me a little energy boost while keeping me from eating other stuff.

I took Meridia 10 and then 15mg and lost 50 lbs in 5 months. It has to be perscribed by your physican. Risk factors are high blood pressure which could lead to heart damage. You'' have to have monthly check ups to make sure your BP is staying in check. They run about $120-150 amonth depending on the dosage. They are not covered by insurance. Also, a healthy lifestyle change will be nesesary. This drug will speed up your metabolism and teach you how much to eat, but you will have to decide what it is you're going to eat, if it's junk then as soon as you quit taking the med. the weight will come back. Exercise will help to maintain your new metabolism and keep your blood pressure in check.

Tricia, could you tell me if there is any type of artificial sweetner used in these Power Pops, like Nutrisweet/Splenda. Does it say what ingredient they use to make them sweet? Thanks, Pam

Don't do it.......

There are no diet pills you will want to stay on forever - and once you DO stop, the weight will come back on.

I've lost 8 pounds in the past 3 weeks - no diets. I'm just eating better, exercising 3x a week (just about 30-45 minutes each time). I take a cooler with me to work with variety of different things....V8, grapes, yogurt, crackers w/ laughing cow cheese wedges (VERY yummy), dark choc. covered almonds......so in between meals I'll have these snacks so my blood sugar never gets too low for my body to go into starvation mode. On the weekends I relax a little bit and I still eat normal stuff. One of my new favorite things - chocolate soy milk!!!! I never thought I'd drink soy anything, but this is great. No funny taste, and very chocolatey....blend it w/ a banana and frozen strawberries and you have a delicious drink (thanks Oprah!).

Basically it comes down to this - MOVE more, LESS calories (and make the calories COUNT). Keep the junk food OUT of the house. If you surround yourself with healthier foods, that is what you will eat.

If I can do it, ANYONE can. I've found it to be very, very easy this time and I never feel hungry. And I have tried to go on diets so many times over the years and failed, so I have been there-done that.

My husband recently was on Phentermine that his GP gave him. I really was not happy about it and asked him repeatedly not to do it. He said he only needed something to give him a boost. He took them for about a week and then stopped. He said the only side effect he had was his scalp tingling but that any time he looked at food he had no desire for it (like when youve been sick for a week kind of). He did lose like 10 pounds the week he was on it but still I dont like them. I think there is no real magical pill and bottom line eating right and excercise is the only way to do it. I only wish it were that easy. Good luck with whichever way you go.

Diet Bills are not legal in all states..not the over the counter ones but the ones you dr. perscribes

So how did you all go about asking your doctor for the phentermine? What does it do for you?
