Diet Pills

ok I just started the Phentermine 37.5mg last Thursday. Seems to make me a little spazzy with more energy. I really have no need/want for food and I have the dry mouth so I am drinking tons of water. Just wondering for those of you that have been on it....how long did it take to see a difference? I am starting to exercise.....Not up to 30-45 min's a day yet but I hope to be by next week. Any advice???

Does anyone know what the difference between Phentermine and Meridia is? From what everyone is discribing, they sound almost identical. Same risk factors, side affects, results. I just wonder what the difference is. Do they use the same active ingriedent? How much does Phentermine cost a month?

weight watchers!!! Stay away from the pills try weight watchers. I have lost 30lbs over a year....I eat more now than ever, I just eat the right amount of food.

I was also on Phentermine and it does work...as long as your on it. I lost 50 pounds after my wedding, but as soon as I went off, the weight came right back. I would never do it again taking the pills. I was heartbroken once I gained the weight back.

I am not sure about Meridia except that I know it costs more than Phentermine. Here where I live, Phentermine runs about $28 per month in Wal-mart. There is also Adipex which is the same as Phentermine.. I do think the Meridia has different active ingredents.. I could be wrong though. As far as the risk factors.. I know you can log onto the mayo clinc & do research on there.. they should list all rish factors for script drugs..

that was because you did not make a lifestyle change. The pills are just to loose the weight, not keep it off. You have to do that. They help curb your appitite but you have to make the effort to change the habbits.. it is like a jump start.. you take over after they are gone.. they help you change by not requiring as much food. Yes, I gained 30 lbs back but over the course of 9 years.. and 20 of that 30 came in the 9th year!!! It was my eating habbits.. I have gained about 5 lbs since Christmas too now.. I know it was me.. my eating habbits over the holidays. I can't blame the phentermine.. it did what it was suppose to do...

I know someone that has lost & gained so much with weight watchers, that they have just gave her that lifetime membership...what ever that is.. She is really good when she is going to the meetings. She eats the proper foods, but once she stops, she must not have the will power to stay on that healthy eating habbit.. and gains her wieght back. She is back on weight watchers & has lost over 20 lbs in 3 months. she looks great. This time around, she also joinned a kick-boxing group for exercise...

Eating too much wasn't my problem. My problem is that I don't eat. I don't eat breakfast or lunch because I'm never hungry. I normally just eat a small supper and sometimes I'm still not hungry and I just eat a bowl of cereal.

Even when I got pregnant, I still didn't have the eating cravings like others had.

I needed to learn to eat something small in the morning even if I wasn't hungry. This was needed to get my metabolism going.

YOu should see a difference in about a month. The spazzy feelings should start to subside too. You sort of feel as if you drank 4 pots of coffee.. with a ton of suger ;) don't you?? At least that was how I can explain the feeling...by the way, the dry mouth, that is helping you loose the weight.. you are drinking more water & filling up on fluids.. you have to keep up the water.. that is my downfall right now. I am no longer on the phentermine but I am also not drinking the water I should be. I work in a classroom & cannot run to "potty", as we call it there, as much as I would have to if I drank the water like I should... my water intake has cut down drasticly.

What?! Take pills? Pills are a crutch.

I can't control my kids - I need a pill.
I can't sleep - I need a pill.
I can't wake up - I need a pill.
I can't lose weight - I need a pill.
I can't remember where I put my pills - I need a pill.

Diet and exercise, I say, diet and exercise!

and I'm in the best shape of my life. It's a constant struggle...daily. For example, I ate like there was no tomorrow yesterday [daughter's sleepover party and food everywhere] and skipped the gym. Today I'm back on track.

It is a lifestyle change. I used to make fun of people who got up at 5am to workout. Now I'm up before 5 several mornings a week to head to the gym. It's crazy.

I am not "on a diet". That's a huge key. I have a healthy lifestyle. It includes OCCASIONAL treats like cake at a birthday or a nice pasta meal, but the MAJORITY of my time I'm eating TONS of veggies and lean protein [chicken, fish, egg whites], fruit and between 1200-1500 total when on weight loss track or 1500-1800 when on maintainence track. I RARELY eat Red Meat, maybe every couple months a hankering for a good filet or a craving for a taco.

After 3 years I still have to smack myself around when my 'cheat day' has gone on for 3 days....that fat girl always wants to come out! Currently I'm 5 pounds over my 'bikini worthy' weight, so I'm hankering down. Lower calories and more weights & cardio training.

WATER is soo important. And I find that when I'm not drinking a lot of water, I'm craving the junk...

For the teacher who has a hard time because of 'potty' breaks...drink most of your water after school and before dinner...so from 3-6. Bring a big container of cool water and as soon as the bell rings, start sipping.

I'm the opposite..running around all afternoon. So I try to drink the majority of my water before 1pm.

I do occasionally take supplements [well 2times for a couple months]...Beverly Nutrition Lean Out and 7-keto Musclelean. Don't know if they help or if it's psychological but it helps jump start before a beach vacation so I feel good in my bikini.

Diet and exercise, I say, diet and exercise!

I agree on not taking anything without a doctor. Better, get a nutritionist and a personal trainer and work something out without the drugs if you can.

Don't do it.......

There are no diet pills you will want to stay on forever - and once you DO stop, the weight will come back on.

Try good old fashioned will power. Putting success or failure in a pill is a mistake. Change your lifestyle and you will be successful for life. And then you can take the credit yourself, and won't have to give the credit to a little pill. So if you go with the pill and lose the weight, what's going to happen when you quit taking the pill? You're going to gain the weight right back. I agree with rucrazy - pills are a crutch.

Don't do pills. I've done them and they don't work. You'll just be aggravated in the end.

My recommendation is to go to your dr. and let him/her do a physical and do blood work. Then go see a nutritionist and work on a plan. Start walking 30 minutes a day. That would be a great start. Drink plenty of water and add exercise to your routine, that's important.

I agree with you about some people needing additional help. For whatever reason, some peoples bodies are weight loss resistant and for them they need the additional help to do what most people can do on their own.

I haven't heard that Merida is a fat blocker. I've never had diarrhea while I was taking Meridia. In fact, I had quite the opposite problem.

You can get more info on Phentermine at Phentermine.com. There is a forum for people on it.

I had a hard time taking it. I couldn't ever sleep and was a zombie all the time.

I have very resistant weight loss and continue to struggle, BUT, I do notice that when I eat 80% of so of my foods from fruits, vegetables and whole grains (like brown rice, quinoa and barley) I am not hungry and I don't crave the junk. Eating like this combined with some light weight lifting and walking WILL get the weight off for me. But it takes a lot of saying "no" to things.

Another site I found particularly helpful with diet and what to eat is VegSource.com.

YOU: On a Diet, by Dr. Oz is a wonderful book to explain why you can't feel full on processed and manufactured foods. Your body doesn't recognize them as food/nutrients and so it continues to want more food.

These are just some things I have been learning in my quest for weight loss lately. Hope some of them can help.

Just have to chime back in, I recommended the phentermine. I have been on it under the direction of my doctor. It did wonders for my self esteem to lose almost 40lbs....AND during the time when I was losing, I was making good decisions on nutrition, exercising, drinking lots and lots of water, etc. I did and have made a lifestyle change. Could I have done it without the phentermine? Probably, but it would have been a lot harder! Believe me,I still have a ways to go, but the phentermine has gotten me to a point where I feel like I CAN do it...now it's all me.

Good luck whatever you decide!

I have never taken one in my life and frankly am a little scared of them BUT...
I am seriously considering taking some. Anyone have any idea of what kind to use? I am at a loss. There are so many out there. Which one works????

We don't know your health history and I can't believe so many people are so quick to recommend what pills work for them or has worked and then they gain the weight back or most of it. This poster might have a medical history that puts her health and life at risk if she were to take a diet pill.

Please check with your dr. first and educate yourself with precautions and side effects.

I can tell you that in my years in fitness the only thing that works long term is a lifestyle change. There are better alternatives out there, such as good old fashioned diet and exercise or specialty eating plans like South Beach or seeking a nutritionist and fitness trainer for help that are far healthier than pill popping.

It is not only dangerous to take these pills because of the negative physiological effects, but there is also the danger of going on and off these drugs and yo yo dieting. That is also dangerous and bad for the body.

GL to you!
