Wanted to do the full 13.1 today but fell short by 3 miles. My foot was killing me and it was getting dark. I didn't have good time either, 15 min per mile. I'm walking most of the race. The park where I train at is very hilly and I'm hoping I will have better time on a flat surface. I did the full 13 a few weeks ago in 13.5 minutes per mile. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow. Hope to get a cortizone shot for the pain. I'm doing a 10K next Saturday.

I think you did GREAT considering the pain! Boo pain! hope that can get healed for you.

I tried to do 12-13 on Friday, and could not do it. I was sick or something was way off, I hit 8, but it was like limping along to the finish just to get that goal down.

I figure if I am going to have an off weekend, let it be this one and not the next 2, right?!

also walking the half- and have been training on hills with the hope that I suddenly do this thing wicked fast when it comes to race day. ;) Glad to see I am not the only one with that hope!

GL at the docs.

Sorry about the foot and resulting issues from the pain. A couple thoughts from Coach...

1) train a few runs on the same type of course as your race. The longer the race the more critical to need to mimic the course. Training on a hilly venue and running a race on a flst course can be just as bad as going the opposite way...in many ways, worse. A flat course does not give all the small stabilizer muscles any break at all like they get on a rolling course. That can over use those small muscles quickly.

2) DO NOT ATTEMPT THE 10K this weekend if you get a cortisone shot this week without letting your doctor know of your intensions! Most doctors will ask you to not run for a week or so after an injection below the knee. Cortisone can weaken the connective tissue resulting in a worse injury. Chances are that it will not happen, but I have seen it happen and a napped tendon is not a runner friendly event. Best to let the injury heal up a bit, especially if you get the injection.

Thanks for all the info;)

Went to the doctor yesterday about my foot issue. They took xrays and told me I have inflamation in the joints between the foot bones and my toe bones. He perscribed me some anti-inflamitory meds to take and told me to keep ice on it for the swelling. He also said after my race to lay off the running for a few weeks. I'm going for a short run after work today, hopefully the meds will kick in. It's so hard when your mind says keep going but your aging body says, please don't. I hate getting old.
