Didn't get the room I reserved?

I just returned yesterday and thought I would mention that I got a room I didn't reserve. We had a 2 bedroom at BCV reserved with the sofa and Q-bed in the second bedroom. Boy I was surprised to go into the second Bedroom to see 2 Q-beds. I know that's not what I booked. I was shocked as I know these are hard to come by. This is the second time this year this has happened. In January I was booked in a dedicated studio, but did not get a dedicated studio. For the BCV I requested the ground floor, but got the 3rd floor (I rarely ever get anything I request with DVC reservations). There was a few things wrong with the room which we called on. The carpet was pulling away from the strips and sharp tacks were exposed. We called and they covered it with duct tape. Both bathroom sinks were stopped up and we reported them on checkout. The dishwasher would not release the soap (found out the next day when we went to put soap in). We had a nice stay there but because of Fay, we only visited SAB on our first night for a few minutes. Because of the rain and wind no one wanted to get in the pool. I guess we were tire of being wet. We did spend alot of time at Beaches and Cream. We had no problem flying out yesterday on JB. We had been monitoring the storm since the weekend. It was a pain and weighed on our minds during our last few days.

I have never had any luck with any requests I have made at BCV. We own there and honestly after a horrid experience in 2004 I've never returned. Maybe someday, but I know I can not make any requests becasue I just know whatever I ask for I will get the polar opposite of--wonder if I request what I don't want I'd get what I wanted? Honestly I think they are so popular there they figure who cares if you don't take the room someone else will.

We have never been unhappy with our rooms at BCV. However, the only requests we used to make was non-smoking (which isn't necessary anymore). And at check in we ask to not be in an HA room. Have never had a problem.

I have found if I don't make requests, then there's no chance for let-down. Whatever we get ends up to be fine, because we weren't expecting anything except for a clean, well maintained room (which so far, we have been lucky to receive).

Now n2mm, your situation is different because you specified a room category that I THOUGHT was a guarantee. So that's odd that you received the more 'valuable' room. I do worry when I read things about the carpet coming up and the drains being clogged etc. BCV is such a high volume resort it does take a beating and it seems that the maintenance crew can not always keep up with it. This is a concern and I am sure one of my future visits, I will be the one with the sub-par room (but it won't keep me from booking there, love my BCV).

I really think it all depends on the time of day you check-in. We always check-in very early in the morning and usually not later than 10 AM. We have always gotten almost everything requested. This also goes for the BWV and making requests there.

I just wanted to mention, while I had no problem getting the 2 beds in the second room instead of the 1 bed and sofa, it did make be wonder if that meant someone else out there who booked the 2 beds didn't get what they booked. I know I got the harder to get room and we did do a little switching around than orginally planned. I was happy with the set up we got. Though the things that were not working or needed repair were addressed while we were there, not sure how long the duct tape might be on the carpet. We were in room 304.

Out of curiosity, what time of day did you check in? I think BCV uses that room selection system that favors earlier day arrivals versus later day. If you checked in early, then I have no idea what happened. Dedicated 2 bedrooms are a seperate booking category and I am a little suprised that you got one without requesting it.

We were in room 304.

THANK YOU!! Thank you!! Thank you!!! I think you just ended my many year quest for all the 2 bedroom with 2 queens!!!

304 was one of the last couple rooms that I thought could have been one of 2 queen rooms. The other, room 301, I found out a couple months ago was not a 2 queen. I will have to tell Diszip to note it on his website.

Now I can rest!;)

We checked in at 10:00AM. We dropped off several of our group at Blizzard Beach at 9:30AM (had to buy them AP discounted tickets so drove them over). Then went to the BCV to checkin early, get our room IDs. They now call you on your cell phone when your room is ready, which was a nice change for us (our room was ready at 2:00PM--the earliest ever for us). The "coordinator" came over to us when we checked in to tell us that our request for ground floor was not granted as they don't have the type of room we requested on the ground floor. OK, I thought this was strange as we had a Q-bed and sofa in the second room last year in room 104, but whatever she says. So when we saw the new set up, her comment made sense then. (I did not request the 2Q beds as I know this is listed on the reservation when you book this room).

Lisaareniff--glad I could help.

Do you feel like Indiana Jones and the Holy Grail? :rotfl2:

We have stayed at the BCV several time and have never had a really good experience. The rooms are okay but always smell musty. We also have experienced a different level of service when staying in the villas. Once we needed to wait 90 minutes for bell services - a little crazy! Needless to say we can carry or own next time. I know they are busy but I am certain that DVC does not rank at the BCV. We stay there because of the pool but that is the only reason. It is not the service or the rooms.

Quick tip to get the room type, building location, etc.
The trick is to arrive EARLY in the day on the day that you are supposed to check in. A little bird told me this. When you get to WDW go straight to the resort you are saying in and go straight to the check in counter and let them know you have arrived and tell them you have a SPECIAL REQUEST ON THE ROOM. The magic question is; is it available now as I had requested? If not when will it be available? They always tell me to call back to an 800 number to check the availability.

You see; the cleaning crew cannot start cleaning any of the rooms until they are vacated by the previous member/ user. So they start at the checkout time which is usually 11:00am (guessing, some resorts are at different times of day) so the idea is to be there before 11:00am or earlier, make sure they know you are there, you are put on the list as the next person in line to get in a room and you most likely will get what you have asked for.

Every time we stay at WDW we get the room we want without exception. However we have an advantage over most DVC Members. We drive to WDW from North Carolina via grandpa’s house in Daytona. We go to his house on Saturday and then arrive at WDW by 9 or 10am on Sunday morning, go to the hotel and make sure they know we are waiting on OUR room. We then trek off to DTD for the day calling once an hour for the room availability.
