was thinking of upgrading to a verandah stateroom for our next cruise
we have sailed in a Cat 10 and 9 before inside and window

just been thinking if we would use a verandah much

room service and breakfast :lovestruc
or would it be used as a place for DS's smelly shoes :lmao:

so if you had a verandah stateroom before did you use it much

Hi Jackie!!

We have been on two DCL cruises and the first one we had a verandah and the second we had a porthole window.

I really MISSED the verandah - it was so lovely having your own outside space and enjoying breakfast/room service out there and reading a book. This time we were on a three nighter and thought we wouldn't use it - but we would have!! (Sitting on deck just isn't the same - we just didn't relax the same as when we knew no one was going to walk by and disturb us!!)

I think it is definitely worth it - especially if you are someone that enjoys their privacy and own space!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Hi Jackie

We didn't really use ours much and because of the kids autism, we spent a fair bit of time in our cabin. I'm thinking, if we cruised again, of going for a Cat 9 or 10.

PS - We're off to our first MNSSHP tonight :cool1:

Hi great to hear from you
was wondering how you all are getting on
haven't seen you about the boards

enjoy the party
are you all dressing up

We used our verandah all the time. :) It was awesome to be out there when we left the ports. We had great views of St Thomas this way. Hopefully this cruise we will be see CC. ( we were on Port side last time, this year is Starboard side.).

Even our son who was 4 loved the verandah with close adult supervision of course.

hey jackie!

we use ours! we do the reas package and get our champagne breakfast delivered one of the mornings that we are backing into castaway cay!

we also go back to our verandah the night of the pirate party and watch the fireworks from there!

we love our verandah and would not want to cruise without one We use it all the time from coffee in the morning to a glass of wine last thing at night.
It is good to be able to just sit and read without any interruptions. We leave the door ajar when the weather is not hot at night and it is great to get some fresh air and also hear the sea.

We have sailed 7 times and had a verandah twice. Both were due to free upgrades. We did not pay for it and we all agreed that we would never pay for one. Sure, it's nice to have (especially for free) but we really didn't spend enough time out there to justify the cost.

I'd rather use the difference in price toward another cruise. The cost of the verandah usually comes close to 1/3 - 1/2 of the cost of another week on board for our family of 4. That, to me, is a much better use of the money, especially since the only difference between the 5/6s and our 9 is the verandah. Otherwise the cabins are exactly the same.

So no, for us it isn't worth it all...but it is most definitely a personal choice.

:surfweb: Andrew DEREK UK - WHERE ARE YOU -LOL :rotfl:
I KNOW you have an answer for this person!!!!

 WE LOVE OUR VERANDAH!!!!!
Can't sail without one now. Ever since our 4th cruise we were spoiled! pirate:
I love to read, sit and relax and just watch the water go by, eat meals, watch us pulling in to ports, watching while going through the Panama Canal was AWESOME!, ... Nothing like waking up and having room service breakfast on the verandah!

We were upgraded from a cat 8 to a cat 4 on our 3rd cruise. We had to make an effort to remember to go out there. On formal night I sat out there with DD and we did our nails that afternoon. We saw a rainbow. :) DH went out a bit each morning before we woke up but usually he just goes up on deck and takes pictures of the sunrise. It was neat to go out and watch the Captain on the bridge when we were pulling in or out of a port [we were in 8004 so very close to it] and he would wave when he looked back and saw the kids watching him. IMO that just didn't justify the additional cost and we will never book a verandah. We won't turn another upgrade down though. ;) The thing the kids liked best about the room was having the extra chair and automan to sit on even when the couch was made up as a bed. LOL!

we love our navigators balcony. we sit out there at all hours of the day or night. I really dont tink I could get my wife to cruise without the nav balcony.

We always have a verandah, will not book unless we have 1. The main reason is to smoke, but we like to just watch the see sail by. It is great to sit out at night and feel the warm air. Brings the cruise closer than having to look through a glass.

We had a veranda on both cruises. We used it morning, noon and night. First off I am claustrophobic, so I needed to know I had fresh air and space. We would have coffee/tea in the morning. We would relax and have conversation or read or people watch (we are usually on the port side and watch everyone disembark and come back on the ship) in the afternoon. Enjoy a glass of wine and some cheese before dinner and then again before bed. So yeah, we used it! It is worth it to us.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE the Verandah! We use it every morning for our first cup of coffee that is delivered via Room Service as our wake up call :) We also use it to check out all of the ports and docking and sail away.

I also use it at night for some quiet time when DH and the kids are sometimes already asleep or just watching TV before falling asleep. I head out to the Verandah and just sit and listen to the waves crashing - very relaxing! My DH and the kids love the verandah, too so fo our family - we use it alot.

We were upgraded to a verandah on our last cruise. While it was nice to have, I don't think we actual spent enough on it to pay for it.

Yes, we used our verandah. DH used it the most, although I enjoyed sitting out in the early morning before the children would wake up, or late at night after they had gone to bed. We liked having a bit of privacy from the kids as we could sit out there and talk without their listening ears (although you can't talk loud or you'll have the listening ears of your neighbors who might also be on their verandah). We especially enjoyed it on Castaway Cay day after reboarding mid-afternoon - we were able to watch the comings and goings and just enjoy the island music that was playing. For us, we found it added just enough extra room to the cabin -- our first sailing was a Cat. 4 and our second (and subsequent) have been in Cat 6 -- we felt the verandah for a Cat 6 gave us the same additional space that the extra room inside the Cat. 4 did. It was nice, too, to have a place for DH and the kids to "hold" while I was finishing getting ready for going out or whatever. The children especially enjoyed watching the docking and leaving from the verandah.

We started out cruising DCL in an inside cabin and loved it.
Next cruise we upgraded to a Navagators Verandah and thought "wow" what a value! We will always have cat. 7!
Next cruise we got a navagators, and got my parents the downgraded room next door with a half view open verandah. OMG! How wonderful to be able to see out.
This trip we all have regular verandahs.

My dh loves to order early room service and drink his coffee on the verandah while I sleep in. We use ours alot!

Gotta give the verandah a thumbs up:thumbsup2 ! I really felt it added the whole "ocean" much more to our experience. We are a family of 5 who doesn't want to be split up, so we were in a category 4 BUT I have been looking at cruising for just me and the kids and I still say I'll get a verandah even though there will only be 4 of us!

Our first cruise we had verandah cabins (5 in our family) but never again after that. It was July and so hot that every time you opened the verandah door the air conditioning got sucked out and it would take hours to cool down again. We used it very little to justify the increase in cost, just a storage place for our snorkel stuff! Our second cruise we were going to try inside rooms but got upgraded to CAT 8s and have got them ever since. I too am claustraphobic and thought I would be sleeping on the deck 4 loungers but have never had a problem with the big porthole rooms.

We loved our verandah. It was so nice to be able to lay in bed and be able to see out to the ocean. We also used it to watch us dock in Cozumel and Castaway Cay. We would sit out some evenings, it was very relaxing. I wouldn't book anything but a verandah room from now on.
