I didn't have a "traditional" hope chest.. It was a very large, very heavy, antique, round-top steamer trunk (used to belong to my grandparents) - that my mother re-lined the inside of.. Just opening the top was a chore - it was so gosh darn heavy.. LOL..
If you still have one, will you pass it on down to a DD or purchase a new one for her? (Come to think of it, who is supposed to purchase it?)
I know Amish girls all have them - usually crafted by someone in their own family or at least someone within the Amish community..
