Did you charge WDW?

I'm kind of surprised that so many people use a debit card or check card to pay for their trips. I was always under the impression that using those cards didn't carry as much protection as using a credit card especially if you are paying on line.:scared1:

I agree...I wouldn't use it online or for a trip...people can clean out your bank account before you'd even knew it happened and the bank won't just put it back it there for you! Credit cards are safer.

i thought if they had a visa logo they were protected like a credit card. $50 your responsible for the rest your not.

They would also need to know your password to use it as a debit card.

Ours is protected like this. We were concerned about being protected so we asked our bank about it and the only difference is that there may be a few days lag in getting the money replaced with a debit card and a credit card is immediate.

The possible delay in replacing the money is another reason we do have a credit card for emergencies and a separate debit account for bills.

OMG!!!! Someone used a credit card to go on vacation! What is the world coming too! Seriously, ya'll crack me up.... :lmao:

Yeah, I'm betting against my future in order to get an advanced degree, i.e. PhD, that I'll most definitely be able to cash in on someday with a really good job, and yeah, I'm paying interest on a couple of very well-deserved vacations to WDW in the meantime, but geez, that doesn't make me, or anyone else for that matter, a bad or financially irresponsible person! As long as you get by month to month and have some fun along the way, you're doing alright in my book.

I was recently surprised to learn where I bank that if money is taken illegally from your account by someone who obtained your password then you are responsible for the loss. This includes even if the thieves were able to guess your password.

Okay, back to the original discussion!

Hey if it works for you great. We too are paying for graduate school and DD preschool which is more than grad school. After college my DH used credit cards and racked up a lot of debt. It has taken us six years to get out from under it.

I first posted this thread I was curious- that's all. We just have seen how hard it was for us with debt. My in laws are in massive credit card debt. We are fortunate that we learned a valuable lesson while we were young.

Okay, back to the original discussion!

I just called my banks 24 hotline and they said $50 for me. Maybe every bank has different policies.

What lesson? For me, it's a rational choice made by an adult who is fully-cognizant of the benefits and consequences of my actions. I've chosen in the past to charge a vacation. I also have student loans and a car payment, and believe me, the monthly payments are well worth it. I've got an excellent education, a nice, reliable car to drive, and the opportunity to go on vacation once in a while.

Do some people use credit irresponsibly? Sure! Do some people use alcohol iressponsibly? Sure! I enjoy a drink once in awhile, but that doesn't make me a drunk. Likewise, I can use credit without getting in over my head. Just another perspective....

Although I've never heard of someone taking a short term loan on a truck to pay for a Disney trip (the interest rates on those kinds of loans are astronomical!!), I've read posts where people have maxed out 3-4 credit cards with $500-$1000 credit limits! Plain and simple, with so many other less expensive options, these are not the people who should be taking a Disney vacation!

I hate to say this, but who are you to determine who should "go to Disney" and who shouldn't? :sad2:

I am one of those people that tries really hard to save for my trip. BUT, I am also one of those people that if I don't have enough cash for my trip, I will charge it. Why? Life is too short. Plain and simple. I'm not going to miss taking my children when they are at very precious ages just because of money.

It will get paid off eventually, I never worry about it.

Who really cares who "charges" their trip and who doesn't?

I definitely understand what you are saying, because we were there.. and it took us awhile to get out of it.

When I was pregnant with my first child I became very ill. I had to go on bedrest and lost six months of my salary. We found our income cut in half and $10,000 in debt. After the baby was born I chose to stay home. At that moment we chose to live within our means. It has taken three years to become debt free. The stress of credit card bills and finance charges took a huge toll on our lives. Now, if we cannot afford something we do not buy it. It is our choice to not lease our lives. If we charged our vacation I would never be able to relax during it.

Our last credit card the monthly payment was $80. The finance charges were $50 per month!

Okay, I have a confession to make. I would charge some of my Disney vacation if I had to. We have already started saving for our next trip in 2008, but some months are hard. Yes, we have cc debt, all at low rates by the way, and these debts have accumulated because we have fell on hard times in the past. That does not make us bad people or careless people. We always make our payments on time. Anyways, back to the subject. If the only way we could go is to charge it and then pay it back over time and we could afford those monthly payments then yes we would go. If we waited to be completely out of debt to take a vacation, our kids would already be grown! I recently had a scare with cancer and it has made me look at life differently. The time we spend with our children and family on vacation is priceless in my book. You can't go back and get those years once they are gone. So, I say if you have to charge it to go, then charge it. As long as you can pay it back.:thumbsup2

I really wouldn't be that surprised.... Way to many people live beyond their means everyday.... What would make a vacation any different?:confused3

I was really surprised to find out that some people charge their dream vacations? A friend told me he took out a loan against his truck and maxed out all his credit cards.

We do not have a lot of disposible income but we saved for nine months for our trip and never put anything on a credit card. (We just do not use them.) I have like $33 I still owe for next week.

No offense to anyone who did just wondering?

We don't charge anything, ever. We don't have any credit cards at all (even for emergencies). We pay cash (well, debit card or check, too) or we don't buy it, period. Been living this way our entire married life and will continue to do so. It CAN be done if you have enough cash reserves for emergency situations and really good insurance policies (which we do). Our September trip to WDW was paid for two months ago and it's still 2.5 months away. We still need to buy our plane and park tickets and then it's ours, free and clear!

We always use our income tax return to pay for our trips but if we find a good deal (like free dining) we will charge or trip for 3-6 months before we receive the next return. By doing this we save way more money then we pay in interest. I use a promotional credit card check that is almost no interest.

You have reached enlightenment, grasshopper. :worship:

Seriously though, this isn't a moral issue. It's a matter of what makes each of us most comfortable. :flower3: To each her own.

Depends on your bank, in a lot of cases.
