I'm kind of surprised that so many people use a debit card or check card to pay for their trips. I was always under the impression that using those cards didn't carry as much protection as using a credit card especially if you are paying on line.

i thought if they had a visa logo they were protected like a credit card. $50 your responsible for the rest your not.
They would also need to know your password to use it as a debit card.
Seriously, ya'll crack me up....
As long as you get by month to month and have some fun along the way, you're doing alright in my book.i thought if they had a visa logo they were protected like a credit card. $50 your responsible for the rest your not.

OMG!!!! Someone used a credit card to go on vacation! What is the world coming too!Seriously, ya'll crack me up....

Yeah, I'm betting against my future in order to get an advanced degree, i.e. PhD, that I'll most definitely be able to cash in on someday with a really good job, and yeah, I'm paying interest on a couple of very well-deserved vacations to WDW in the meantime, but geez, that doesn't make me, or anyone else for that matter, a bad or financially irresponsible person! As long as you get by month to month and have some fun along the way, you're doing alright in my book.
I was recently surprised to learn where I bank that if money is taken illegally from your account by someone who obtained your password then you are responsible for the loss. This includes even if the thieves were able to guess your password.
Okay, back to the original discussion!
We are fortunate that we learned a valuable lesson while we were young.
Although I've never heard of someone taking a short term loan on a truck to pay for a Disney trip (the interest rates on those kinds of loans are astronomical!!), I've read posts where people have maxed out 3-4 credit cards with $500-$1000 credit limits! Plain and simple, with so many other less expensive options, these are not the people who should be taking a Disney vacation!
Hey if it works for you great. We too are paying for graduate school and DD preschool which is more than grad school. After college my DH used credit cards and racked up a lot of debt. It has taken us six years to get out from under it.
I first posted this thread I was curious- that's all. We just have seen how hard it was for us with debt. My in laws are in massive credit card debt. We are fortunate that we learned a valuable lesson while we were young.
What lesson? For me, it's a rational choice made by an adult who is fully-cognizant of the benefits and consequences of my actions. I've chosen in the past to charge a vacation. I also have student loans and a car payment, and believe me, the monthly payments are well worth it. I've got an excellent education, a nice, reliable car to drive, and the opportunity to go on vacation once in a while.
Do some people use credit irresponsibly? Sure! Do some people use alcohol iressponsibly? Sure! I enjoy a drink once in awhile, but that doesn't make me a drunk. Likewise, I can use credit without getting in over my head. Just another perspective....
I was really surprised to find out that some people charge their dream vacations? A friend told me he took out a loan against his truck and maxed out all his credit cards.
We do not have a lot of disposible income but we saved for nine months for our trip and never put anything on a credit card. (We just do not use them.) I have like $33 I still owe for next week.
No offense to anyone who did just wondering?

At that moment we chose to live within our means. It has taken three years to become debt free. The stress of credit card bills and finance charges took a huge toll on our lives. Now, if we cannot afford something we do not buy it. It is our choice to not lease our lives.
