Did you charge WDW?

My in-laws don't believe in credit cards. But they have no problem taking out a loan every time they need to buy a new dryer, etc. It is essentially the same thing, only it prevents them from using a credit card for day-to-day purchases. If a family wanted to pay for a vacation with a small loan instead of using a credit card, making payments every month, I don't see a problem with it.

DH and I do what so many here do: we use our Disney Visa to make payments on our vacation every month and are fully paid off long before the vacation ever starts. Then we take advantage of the nice chunk of "free money" we've earned using the credit card for groceries and gas to pay for food and souveniers.

I would never charge my trip. I don't even charge Xmas gifts...no way.

We use Dreams Unlimited....put down the $200...then make payments whenever we have the funds. The minimum payment they take is $100...but we usually pay more. We always tell the kids we are paying for the trip so no big purchases. They understand totally. We never have a big lump of cash except at tax time, so little payments work for us. That's why we like to book our trips asap so we have plenty of time to pay them off. I like knowing when I come home....the trip has already been paid for!

The DW and I put our vacations on our Disney Visa for the benefits...

I can't speak for everyone, but for me, it's not about moral superiority or anything like that. It's about the very hard lesson learned when my income dropped in half for a while and I had a lot of (previously manageable) credit card debt that made it very difficult to get by. After my income recovered, it took years to pay all that back. So I vowed never to put myself in that position again.

I'm with you on this one. :thumbsup2

I worked for years at a successful company until one day I learned that my paycheck bounced. :scared1: Talk about a total surprise! It was a mess. Then they closed the doors. Nice. Little did we know, the CEO and CFO were in "kahoots" and they took the money, leaving us all high and dry.

I went from "just put it on the credit card" to thanking God that I even had a nickle in the bank account to keep my bank books in the black. I, too, vowed to never put myself in that position again. ;) Like I said in an earlier post, if I don't have it in the bank, I dont' go. I wait until I can save up my money and go with peace and joy.

Last year we put the trip on Disney Visa using the 0% for six months. We paid it off in equal amounts over the 6 months.

We're doing the same thing this year. We don't plan a more extravagant trip than we can easily pay for - but taking advantage of the financing does make sense for our situation.

If it wasn't for the 0% I wouldn't charge it, or would charge it but not carry the balance. We use our CC's heavily for the rewards, but never carry a balance unless it's interest free.

Well, I'm charging, for several reasons:

1. I have the Disney Visa, so I get 6 months interest free on balances for Disney vacations.

2. It makes sense for me to charge everything I can because I almost always pay off my few cards in full at the end of every month (this 6 month grace period will usher in a rare exception to this rule). As such, I get whatever bonuses the cards offer with none of the attendant credit problems.

I'll be using the points I accumulate from charging my trip to buy myself a nice souvenier while I'm down there, just as I'll be using the points I got from charging my plane tickets on another card to someday fly somewhere else.

I know I said I wouldn't use a credit card to go... because of how we had debt in the past because of credit cards that was hard to recover from as other's have said.

However.. on the other side.. if I had one of these credit cards, I would do it! Because of the exact reasons mentioned here... and have it paid off within that 6 months.

I don't think it's morally wrong to use a credit card.. my reason is because of my past. I just don't want anyone to think I'm judging. I know that there are people who have good reasons for using a credit card! I see both sides of the story!
