Did you buy into DVC thinking you would only stay in studios?

They did say "note to self---never do that again". That means they understand it was a bad idea. They don't need a "shame on you".


My dad once thought that two 6'4" males (my brothers), 6'2" dad, 5'11" stepmom, me (short but not a small person at that time), and 6 year old DS could and should share ONE 2Q room at a Ramada. There was barely enough room for the 4 of them, let alone once DS and I were included! Sometimes people think they can squeeze in. (I snuck away and rented a room for me and my son...dad was very angry with me because he thought we should all share, but oh well!)

We bought in for 2 bedrooms with the kids and planning on downsizing to a 1 bedroom for the 2 of us. This is still the plan.
I love the laundry, the kitchen and having the kitchen table for breakfast too much to do studios.

Oh and the King master is awesome

Truthfully, we were so excited to own DVC we had no idea what we would book! We have had kids and grandkids every visit we have yet to stay in a studio. We have our first studio stay booked for January, probably will be a big letdown after the glamour of the larger villas. Definitely will miss the Master Bathroom!

We bought 200 pts originally direct and bought another 200 resale all the while thinking we would stay in studios (family of 3 + we sometimes have a guest), unless we are travelling with more people. This is still the case after 11 years. I would rather stay in a studio and go more often or rent my points then stay in a larger room. We are rarely in the room anyway.

Yes. Originally bough enough points for a studio stay for 2 weeks at our home resort. With the arrival of several nieces and nephews we added on so that we can accommodate them every couple years or so in a 1 or 2 bedroom depending on how many are joining us.

Heck no! We bought DVC because we had outgrown hotel rooms (studios)! We bought enough points for a 2 BR for the four of us since DS & DD couldn't share a bed anymore.

Same as many of you - we bought DVC because a standard hotel room didn't work well for our family of 5, and we've primarily stayed in 2 brs for years. With our older kids having left home now, we have stayed in studios a couple times recently, and don't really like them; decided to start doing 1brs instead. The flexibility is nice though.

From day one we planned on two bedrooms for our family of 4. If its just the two of us we prefer the one bedroom and I've even done solo stays in a one bedroom. Not to say I/we have not done studios, but it's minority of stays.

This turned out to be an interesting question. We are new to DVC - after 5 years of trying to talk my husband into it and showing him the numbers, he finally agreed this year.

I asked my husband and he says he figured we'd be in Studios most of the time. But I'd thought we'd be in a one bedroom most of the time because of the king bed if we both go. So we were both thinking different things when we bought into it.

Oh and when I go solo, definitely a studio room (already have that booked for 2017. LOL)

We have enough points to do either - 2 long weekend trips in a studio or one slightly longer trip in a one bedroom.

Exactly the opposite. My assumption was that my family of four needed a 2BR. This is part of the reason we eventually decided not to buy DVC.

I bought into DVC when my children were in their 20's and not living at home. I bought 160 pts. at the AKV figuring I could go to WDW twice a year and stay in a studio. Generally I travel solo or with one other person so the studio has been file. I did buy an additional 50 pts. at the AKV once they realigned the weekend and week day points. Now I have grand children, with banking and borrowing I did take the family to Hilton Head one year and stayed in a 2 Bedroom, last year we stayed in a value 2 bedroom at the AKV. I also bought a 50 pt contract at the VWL so that with banking and borrowing I can stay in a studio there every other year at the beginning of December. I am fine with a studio, I have plenty of room, as my grandchildren get older I may have to move up to a 1 bedroom, that would mean only going once a year, or maybe buying more points

Nope. We bought BEFORE we had kids but still planned to stay in larger accommodations. When our guide showed us the 3BR villa at Boardwalk during our tour, we said, "Wow! Do people actually vacation like this?!"

At WDW, we generally stay in a 1BR. We did stay in a AKVK studio with our 2 boys this past December trying to save points since it was an unplanned vacation. And we are staying in a studio at VGC next month because the 1BR was double the cost on the West coast vs WDW. As it's our first trip to DL, we figure that we won't be in the villa much except to sleep. I didn't want to spend the extra points on a 1BR (we usually spend more time in the villa at WDW).

I still stay in studios. Saves points and one or two people do not NEED a one-bedroom. I don't have a spouse or partner so there is no bed sharing. If a friend wants to come along, they are on the sofa bed.

I just phoned DVC to upgrade my upcoming Aulani reservation from Studio (pool view) to 1BR (island view). I figure I'll be using the laundry and would prefer to do that "easy style" from my own room rather than feeling the need to babysit the process in a shared laundry facility. Yippie!

We bought site unseen in 1999 and had no idea about accommodations. Dumb luck I know. Our first visit was a recon trip and we stayed in BWV studio. We thought we were in heaven! We scoped out our home resort OKW. Oh boy! We had bought enough points for our family of 9 to stayed every other year in two 2 br and DH and stay in a studio in the off year. We quickly discovered that we like our space. We enjoy the parks for a couple of hours. So we moved up to one br. This was very helpful during the vacation when March Madness was on. The two tvs saved our marriage! Our family is now 21. So multiple 2 brs.

We initially purchased 25 points resale (yes that few!) for a 2-night stay every couple of years in a studio. We loved the location and free parking and early entry and wanted to try DVC.

We have added on to stay longer, go more often, and bring friends. We have stayed in 1bed and 2bed villas but don't think we could ever justify cost/night of 3bed villas. Those come with a big bill!

We are fairly new owners (just bought last year). In general, we plan to stay in studios as long as it's feasible - right now, we don't have kids and I imagine a studio will be all right for smaller kids eventually. But we've also used our banked points to stay in a 1BR when we did a trip with my mom, and we've booked a 2BR with the "one time use" points added on for this year since we're taking a trip with 5 other people. That worked out well - we got to book AKL at a difficult time of year, and they didn't have to pay a huge amount to stay in a deluxe Disney hotel. When it's just the two of us, though we stay in studios. Plenty of space, and we don't tend to use the kitchen much even when we have it - though I do miss the in-room laundry in the 1BR since I started running It really just depends on what our points situation is and what kind of trip we want to take - part of the reason we love our DVC so far!

After 5yrs we are now downsizing to a studio most of the time. We value our points too much now!

We bought 200 VGF points on a cruise sight pretty much unseen (do not do what I did). Our guide was very helpful in getting a UY that fit our travel pattern (December UY for January trips) and convinced us that about 200 points gave us the flexibility to stay in a studio (family of 3) any week of the year. At the time we got our points and made reservations for the next January, we had 400 points available to book the only available VGF villa, 2 bedroom standard view. Since then the only time we have stayed in anything smaller than 1br was two nights in a PVB studio (not much choice there). We have added another 200 points (resale) to support our larger room habit.

I look forward to my (more) reclining years when DW and I can go more often staying in a studio.

Oh, yes-when we bought in 2002, we thought a studio would be plenty for just the 2 of us. Then a couple of years later we had a few extra points and decided to "splurge" just that once with a 1 BR. What is it they say-once you try a 1 BR you'll never go back. Sure was true for us.
