I'm curious because concierge has exploded in popularity in recent years. Did the two original hotels have concierge rooms/buildings in WDW's first 15 years? I know they had suites.
Our first trip to WDW was the first week it opened and I don't remember the Polynesian or the Contemporary having conceirge. My parents brought me and maybe I just didn't pay attention. I was 16 yrs old but had a great time. I believe that Disney had to add conceirge to compete with all the other travel destination resorts. They also had to add resorts that offered spa services.
I know we stayed concierge at the Poly in 1986. Actually, I dont remember the specifics of the concierge (I was 14), but I know my parents have said we did, so they did have it then.
We stayed concierge at the Contemporary in 1987. Didn't take as much advantage of it as we should have since we were very young newlyweds but they did get us fantastic seats for the Hoop De Doo Review which we were very grateful for!

I can recall many stays at the Poynesian Concierge in the early to mid 1980's. The rooms were located in what is now the Hawaii Building, but the Concierge Lounge was located in the Great Ceremonial House. The food offerings were not nearly as extensive as they are now. There were Doughnuts, Danishes, and Coffee in the morning and Cookies, Brownies, and Sodas in the afternoon. The actual lounge was located adjacent to the main lobby where the art gallery is now. There was also a desk in there with a CM to help with PS's and ticket purchases.
