Did I do the math right?

If I add on a 150 points at SSR, at 101 per point, I get 10 off per point for the incentive, then two annual passes. If I value the annual passes at 325 each, then

Total cost is 15150
Incentive -1500
Annual passes -650
Total real cost of 150 points: (15150-1500-650) is 13000. This works out to 86.67 per point. Since I am a member, I don't pay closing costs.

Last fall, with the friends and family discount, the cost was around 83 per point. So this is not too bad.

Question: If I buy a sold-out resort the price is 95? What to do!!!!!

You hang out here enough to know the answer to that! ;) It depends on how much you like SSR, if the extra 12 years are important to you, what time of year you travel and what kind of accommodations you are looking for.

Throw it all in the hopper and you'll find your decision. :)

PS. Your math looks okay to me.

I am the queen of the bargain, that is for sure. I love a bargain. But what I don't love is SSR. But I need, (need being a relative term) more points to vacation the way i want. I do find myself booking some trips inside the seven month period, and I think to myself, why not get the cheap points for that specific purpose. However, I feel certain that the home resort advantage at SSR is not all that important, given the size of the resort.

Didn't I see on the boards someone post that they were selling OKW, VB and HH for 92 per point with 5 off per point? Can someone clarify that?

If you want "cheap points", why not buy into one of the off-property sites, which seem to sell for quite a bit less?

Looking at the ROFR thread, it looks like you could get VB or HHI for under $75 a point (even if you include closing costs into the equation).

That is true, but when I get ready to buy, although I like a bargain, I will also want my points right then. No waiting for ROFR for me.

I'm thinking there have been previous posts indicating the incentives/park tickets were only for the purchase of SSR. It would be nice if you could get some type of discount on the sold-out resorts. Anxious to see if anyone has recent experience that can enlighten us.

In the past, DVC has never offered incentives at the sold out resorts. I think that currently OKW, VB and HH are priced at $92 and BWV, VWL and BCV are still at $95 per point - but no other incentives come with that, those are only at SSR.

Having just passed ROFR myself, I can fully appreciate that.

Something else to consider, when comparing SSR to the sold out resorts is that the pointsfor SSR last a full 33% longer than the others.

Factoring that in, it's more like $65/point for SSR vs. $92/$95 for the others (granted, you'll still have to fork out the $86.50 a point right now).

Alternately, if you really dislike SSR and can hold out for a year or two, maybe you could buy into whatever new resort comes along -- a place at the Comtemporary wouldn't be all bad.

I believe the "free APs" are are for CA residents only. That is my understanding after reading through the boards. if this is something new--I'd love confirmation on that!! We hope to buy in November.

I understand your comment but equate points that won't be available for 40 years with current year points is misleading at best. I have no problem with the $86 number as long as the buyer is not giving up first year points to get the $10 off.
